Pods Moving And Storage Corporate Office

PODS (Portable On Demand Storage) was founded in Florida by Peter Warhurst in 1998. His family owned a moving and storage company, but he wanted to take it a step further. He invented the mobile storage unit, more commonly referred to as a shipping container or pod.

In 2007, Pods was acquired by Arcapita for $451.4 million. In 2012, Pods sued U-Haul for using the name Pod when referring to their U-Box product. U-Haul ended up paying Pods $62 million for infringement of copyright.

The new PODS containers have a steel frame construction with completely recyclable panels made of steel skins and a high-density polyethylene core and are produced in three sizes: approximately 8-by-7-by-7 feet, 8-by-8-by-12 feet, and 8-by-8-by-16 feet. The top is a translucent polymer, which allows some filtered light into the container.

SIRVA Corporate Office

SIRVA was created in 1999 by the merger of Allied Van Lines and North American Van Lines. The merger was organized by the private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier and Rice. The new company was named SIRVA, a derivative of the Latin word meaning to serve.

SIRVA went public two years after its creation and traded publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SIR until 2006, when it was taken private.

Today the company provides moving and relocation services to customers through three distinct channels: corporations relocating employees, governments paying for the relocation of military and civilian personnel, and individuals that pay for their own relocation.

SIRVA is one of the world’s largest relocation services companies with operations in 150 countries and an average of 300,000 relocations per year.

U-Haul was founded by Leonard Shoen in 1945 in Ridgefield, Washington. Shoen built rental trailers in his garage and partnered with gas stations to rent them.

By 1955, there were over 10,000 U-Haul trailers in operation.

In 1967, the U-Haul headquarters is moved to Phoenix, Arizona.

In 1974, the company launches its own retail centers.

In 1986, Shoen’s sons, Mark and Joe complete a hostile takeover of the company.

In 1988, Leonard and a group of investors fail to regain control of the company.

In 1994, a lawsuit resulting from the 1988 incident is settled. A judgment for almost $1.5 billion is levied against Joe and Mark.

In 2003, AMERCO, U-Hauls holding company, files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

In 2004, the company emerges from bankruptcy.

The company recovers and in 2017, is on track to set record profits.

Today, U-Haul is one of the largest moving and storage companies in the US, with revenue in 2006 of more than $4 billion.
