Mejuri Jewelry Corporate Office

Noura Sakkijha grew up in a family of jewelers. Surrounded by diamonds and shiny things, Sakkijha didn’t find the sexism of the jewelry industry appealing but she realized that she did enjoy jewelry for her own pleasure.

Mejuri was founded in 2013. Sakkijha wanted to create a jewelry company for women who wanted to buy jewelry for themselves and not wait for a man to give it to her on a special occasion.

In April 2019, Mejuri raised $23 million in Series B funding.

In 2020, the company allocated $120,000 in educational scholarships for Black women and nonbinary people in Canada and the United States through its Empowerment Fund.

In September 2020, the company began offering a line of jewelry for men.

As offers from vetted professionals come in, sellers decide what offer to accept. Once the auction has concluded, sellers will receive the final sale amount minus the Worthy commission.

4Ocean was founded by Alex Schulze and Andrew Cooper after the pair took a diving vacation in Indonesia. The men were shocked by the amount of trash and floating plastic that their boat driver had to pass through before finding clear water.

4Ocean is a for-profit company that sells bracelets and uses part of the proceeds to remove the plastic and other trash from oceans around the globe. In March 2020, the company placed a series of harbor skimmers, which collects the trash that frequents boat harbors automatically.

To date, the company says it has removed 8 million pounds of garbage and hopes to remove 10 million by the end of 2020.

In September 2019, 4Ocean pledged 1 percent of all sales to other environmental causes, not only ocean-based groups.

4Ocean does not accept donations since it is a for-profit company. Some have criticized the corporation for not being more transparent about how much revenue the company generates vs how much is actually spent on cleaning projects.

Actor Robert Redford purchased a 6,000-acre ranch in Utah in 1969 after making the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” in which Redford played the Sundance Kid. The ranch was named Sundance and Redford created the Sundance Group, which is a non-profit organization.

Sundance Ranch offers a small resort and “town”, which features local artists and artesian products. The store became very popular and Redford began selling these items via the Sundance Catalog, which was first published in 1989.
