AMERCO Corporate Office

AMERCO is a holding company, with its principal subsidiary U-Haul. The company’s history is the history of U-Haul.

Leonard Shoen and his wife Ana Mary Carty had the idea for U-Haul when they were unable to move their belongings to Portland, Oregon from Los Angeles. The couple decided to start a business that would allow for people to rent moving vehicles that could be picked up in one location and dropped off in another.

Today the Shoen continues to control 40% of the company through the holding company AMERCO.

AMERCO sells packing supplies and rents trucks, trailers, and moving devices through 17,400 independent dealers and 1,550 company-owned and operated centers throughout the United States and Canada. The company also offers self-storage facilities, life insurance, property and casual insurance, and annuities through its subsidiaries.

AMERCO trades publicly on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol UHAL, is #822 in the Fortune 1000, has 10,935 employees, and had $3.03 billion in revenue in 2014.

Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies (Wabtec) was founded in 1869 as the Westinghouse Brake Company. The company in its present form became independent via management buyout in 1990 and went public five years later.

Today  Wabtec produces brake equipment and other equipment for locomotives, passenger railcars, and freight cars. Products include air brakes, hand brakes, slack adjusters, monitoring and control equipment, railroad electronics, and draft gears.

Clients include Union Pacific, CSX Transportation, General Electric Transportation, and Trinity Industries.

Covance Corporate Office

Covance was founded in 1968 as Environmental Sciences Corporation in Seattle, Washington.

In 1972 the company bought Hazleton Laboratories, a laboratory that conducted toxicology testing, and took on that name. By 1982, Hazleton had become the largest biological testing company in the U.S.

Covance was purchased by Labcorp in 2014 in a $6.1 billion deal.

Today the company provides testing services, including toxicology studies and biostatistical analysis for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Other clients include companies in the food, agrochemical, and chemical industries. The company also provides testing services which include designing and realizing human clinical trials.
