In November 2020, the Plaid Pantry and four other businesses settled with the state of Oregon regarding price gouging during the Covid 19 pandemic.

In December 2021, Plaid Pantry’s CEO, Jonathan Polonsky, was pushing a measure that currently outlaws the use of flavored tobacco and advertising and places it before the voters. Polonsky said he was interested in a safe alternative but many say that the CEO is only interested because the current ban has hurt sales.

Local Oregon newspapers remind residents that the Plaid Pantry is locally owned and operated and that shopping there is good for their community.

Restaurant Depot was born.

Cohen’s idea was an immediate hit. Within 4 years, business was booming so much that Cohen decided to open a second location.

Today, Restaurant Depot operates 134 locations across the US. Each store provides a membership and offers items that are common in local restaurants, such as crab for New Englanders and salad ingredients for the west coast.

The company rarely advertises and passes the savings onto its members, with most restaurants stating that they pay 30 percent less than they would at other warehouse locations.
