Extend Health/Via Benefits Corporate Office

Founded in 2002 originally under the name Acclaris, the company was the first Medicare Exchange when they offered Chrysler retirees to move from an expensive, private health care insurance company into the more competitive Medicare market, where plans could be individualized.

Extend Health was acquired in 2012 by Willis Towers Watson for $435 million. While the name was temporarily changed to Exchange Solutions, then to OneExchange, it was changed once again in 2017 to Via Benefits. This change can be seen on the Extend Health website address.

Form Beauty Corporate Office

After being let go from his job at a Wall Street firm, Tristan Walker decided to take the big leap and change his life completely. He decided to change how people of color, especially African Americans, buy personal care products. He founded Form Beauty in late 2013.

In a Bloomberg interview, Tristan said “We make health and beauty simple for people of color. I joke about going to the ethnic shelf in aisle 40 of CVS, reaching to the bottom for a package with a photo of a 70-year-old bald black guy in a towel drinking a cognac while petting a tiger. That’s an experience that should not exist and something that few people in Silicon Valley understand.”

Walker says that while retail must change the way it does business, it’s not dead yet. Retail is in his plan of “what’s next.”

Ancestry.Com Corporate Office

In 1990, two Brigham Young University students began tracking family tree information and making it available to other LDS members via floppy discs. By 1994, their original company, Infobases, was being sold on CD’s out of their cars. In 1995, these CD’s sold for $300. Ancestry.com took the business online in 1996.

While the company had been offering free access to Ancestry.com at LDS Family History Centers, that service was terminated on March 17, 2007, because the company and the LDS Church were unable to reach a mutually agreeable licensing agreement. In 2010, Ancestry restored access to its site at Family History Centers.

Today, Ancestry.Com is the largest for-profit genealogy company in the world, with revenue in 2015 of $683.1 million. As of late 2018, the company claims to provide access to approximately 10 billion historical records, have 3 million paying subscribers and to have sold at least 14 million DNA kits.

In 2012, the company was acquired by private equity group Permira Advisors for $1.6 billion.

Clients provide a sample of their DNA to the company for analysis. The company then uses DNA sequences to infer family relationships with other Ancestry DNA users and to provide what it calls an “ethnicity estimate”. Some people experience unexpected surprises, such as author Dani Shapiro, who found that the man she believed was her father actually wasn’t, and a Wisconsin man who discovered that he had 5 siblings, whom his mother had given up for adoption, he was unaware of.

Spin Scooters Corporate Office

Founded in 2016 by Derrick Ko, Euwyn Poon, and Zaizhuang Cheng, Spin began by renting dockless bicycles in the Seattle, Washington, area. The company logged more than 5,000 rides in their first week, far exceeding other bike rental companies. The company has evolved to include electric scooters.

Spin began offering scooter rentals/sharing in San Francisco, California, in early 2018 and in Texas in March 2017.

San Francisco Public Works confiscated dozens of the dockless bicycles after pedestrians stated that the bikes were blocking sidewalks and creating a hazard.

Ford Motor Company acquired the company in November of 2018 for an undisclosed sum. The company was worth approximately $90 billion at the time of sale. Ford says that they intend to greatly expand the company, which currently operates in 24 cities across the US.

In July 2021, the city of Seattle, Washington, gave Spin a permit to operate their scooters on city streets.

Roman is an online telemedicine and supplement company that works as a subscription service. The company diagnoses health problems, prescribes and mails medication to their clients. Starting with only ED products, the company has expanded to hair loss, genital herpes, and cold sore treatments.

Reitano says that he never really intended to start a company that dealt with just ED problems, but men’s health problems in general.

The company recently began offering a smoking cessation program aimed at men, which will be sold under the name “Zero.”
