Buc-ee’s Corporate Office

Buc-ee’s was founded in 1982 by Don Waesek and Arch “Beaver” Alpin in Lake Jackson, Texas. The company operates a chain of convenience and fueling stores. The name is a combination of Alpin’s nickname and the name of his dog.

The company currently has 40 locations, most of them in Texas. The size of each location varies, but most have gas stations for large trucks and cars, but not for 18-wheelers. Many locations also offer car washes. The largest Buc-ee’s opened in 2012 and it features 120 fuel pumps, 83 restrooms, 31 cash registers, and 80 fountain drink dispensers. This location in New Braunfels also sells water gear and inner tubes for those enjoying the nearby Guadalupe River.

Buc-ee’s is perhaps best known for its entertaining billboards found on highways throughout Texas. Billboards with slogans such as “Ice, Beer, and Jerky, the 3 Food Groups” and “Don’t Pass Our Gas” are common.

In September 2022, the company announced that it would start construction of the first Buc-ee in Missouri in the town of Springfield.

Go Energies Corporate Office

Go Energies founder Phil Dorroll grew up in the retail fuel industry- his father owns Go Gas Stations. After Dorroll graduated from N.C. State University he founded Go Gas Universal, which provided fleet drivers with fuel cards that could be used anywhere.

After five years of running Go Gas Universal successfully Dorroll and his staff began to develop the concept of software that would allow for commercial fuel customers, including municipalities, to project fuel costs, manage purchases, map purchases, and track fuel use.

The software is so successful that one of the company’s customers saved $2 million using Go Energies’ Fair Fuel Index, a way for companies to compare fuel prices including ancillary information such as transportation.

Go Energies is #10 on the 2014 Inc 5000 list of Fastest-Growing U.S. Companies with a three-year growth rate of 16,007%.

7 Eleven Corporate Office

7-eleven logo

7 Eleven was founded in 1927 in Dallas, Texas, when John Jefferson Green, an employee of the Southland Ice Company, began selling milk, eggs, and bread, from an improvised storefront in front of one of the company’s ice houses.

The manager of the ice plant, Joe C. Thompson, recognized the potential of this idea as the ice preserved the items and allowed people to buy these goods close to home. He eventually bought the Southland Ice Company and opened several stores selling convenience items.

7-eleven store front

In 1946 the name of the company was changed to 7 Eleven to reflect the stores’ new opening hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

In 1952 the company opened its’ 100th store.

In 1964 7 Eleven began implementing 24-hour schedules in its stores.

7-11 gas station

After a management buyout in 1987 and several changes in ownership, the company’s largest franchisee Ito-Yokado rescued the company from bankruptcy in 1998 and bought it outright in 2005.

In mid-2018, the company changed their contract terms with franchisors, forcing them to carry certain products and charging set prices for them. This has created tension as many franchisors are unhappy with the new terms.

Today 7 Eleven is the world’s largest operator, franchisor, and licensor of convenience stores, with more than 50,000 outlets. 7 Eleven operates in Japan, the United States, Thailand, Indonesia, Canada, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
