Uno Chicago Grill Corporate Office

Uno Chicago Grill, simply called Uno, was founded in 1943 by former Texas University football star Ike Sewell and friend Ric Riccardo. While the pair originally considered opening a Mexican restaurant, they changed their mind and created a pizza/Italian restaurant.

Franchising did not begin until 1980. As of 2014, the company had 140 locations in 24 states. The company also has franchises in 6 other countries, including South Korea, Honduras, and Pakistan. Strangely enough, the company has only 2 locations in the Chicago area. Massachusetts has the most Uno’s, with 27 locations.

In 2010, Uno Restaurant Holdings Corporation filed for bankruptcy protection and closed 16 locations. The company restructured its debt and emerged from bankruptcy in late 2010.

Penn Station Subs Corporate Office

Penn Station Subs was founded in 1985 by Jeff Osterfeld. He already owned Jeffrey’s Deli in Ohio, but while on a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he discovered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. He tried out the recipe at his deli and found that the popularity was overwhelming. He opened his first Penn Station Sub shop in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Today, Penn Station Subs operates a chain of sandwich shops which feature the cheesesteak sandwich, 14 different sandwiches, hand-cut French fries, sourdough bread, salads, and fresh squeezed lemonade. As of 2015, the company had 308 franchises in 15 states.

The company was named #146 on Entrepreneur Magazine’s list of Top 500 Franchises in the US. In mid-2018, Penn Station Subs announced that it planned an aggressive expansion of its locations, including tripling the number of restaurants in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In early 2023, the company announced the opening of new locations in Nebraska and the greater Cincinnati, Ohio, area.

Gino’s East Corporate Office

Gino’s East was founded in 1966 by two taxi drivers, Fred Bartoli and Sam Levine, along with their friend George Loverde. This trio wanted to make a pizza that was unlike every other pizza. Gino’s East is known for its Chicago-style deep dish pizza, with the toppings in reverse. Pizzas have cheese on the bottom, then toppings, then sauce.

Today’s Gino’s East has 10 locations, with Texas franchise locations being operated by ATX Brands, which owns the copyright in that state. The company also owns a brewery with the same name. When 5 Rabbit Brewery decided that they would no longer supply beer to Trump Tower in Chicago, they took that batch and relabeled it “Chinga Tu Pelo” (F**K Your Hair). Gino’s East purchased every single bottle.

In addition to its backward pizza, the company is known for its interior walls on which clients can write, draw, or etch whatever they like.

Fox’s Pizza Den Corporate Office

Fox’s Pizza Den was founded in 1971 by Jim Fox in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania. With a $500 investment, Fox sold out all pizzas made the first day within the first 6 hours of opening. The company operates a chain of pizza restaurants across the US. All of the 280 locations, found in 28 states, are franchised. The company consistently ranks in the Top 25 pizza restaurants in the world.

In 2002 Jim Fox was named by the Small Business Administration as one of the country’s top entrepreneurs. Today, however, many of the franchises have closed due to bad business practices. This has lead to the SBA discontinuing lending money for new Fox Pizza franchises.

Bite Squad was founded in 2012 by current CEO and owner Kian Salehi. Salehi and friend Arash Allaei, realized that there was a great need in the metropolitan Minneapolis area for a food delivery service. While the company began in Minneapolis, today it also serves St. Paul, Minnesota, Austin, Texas, Denver, Colorado, and recently expanded to include Seattle, Washington, Orlando, Florida, Little Rock, Arkansas, Las Vegas, Nevada. and even Hawaii.

Using in-house developed technology, the company uses an algorithm which measures cooking time, the number of orders being placed, available drivers and even traffic flow to generate as precise an arrival time as possible. Customers, who place and track their order in real time online or through the Bite Squad app, get a text or call, including the driver’s picture, when they are nearby.

The company began with only 5 drivers and service to 17 restaurants. Today has 4,000 drivers, who are employees of the company, not “contracted drivers”. All drivers are in clearly marked cars, wear uniforms, and must use insulated boxes.

The company operates a restaurant food delivery service. Bite Squad claims to have thousands of restaurants and the company delivers within 7 miles of any given restaurant. Gift cards are available and pre-scheduled delivery is also available.
