Rue La La Corporate Office

Rue La La was founded in 2007 by current CEO  Mark McWeeny in Boston, Massachusetts. The company is an invitation-only website that offers private sales of discounted merchandise. Each sale has a limited time window in which merchandise can be purchased.

The company offers a wide variety of items including travel discounts, designer clothing, footwear, wine, handbags, jewelry, gourmet food, and local services, such as massages and manicures. As of 2011, Rue La La operates as a subsidiary of Kynetic L.L.C.

Sometimes referred to as a “flash” site, due to the short duration in which clients can purchase items, the company recently announced plans in May of 2016 to spend as much as $3 million expanding the company, as well as hiring approximately 150 new full-time employees.

In June 2018, the company acquired Gilt for an undisclosed amount.

At its peak, the company had 50 locations before it filed for bankruptcy in 2008. Approximately 35 of the 45 stores were closed when Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings turned into Chapter 7 liquidation.

Current CEO Scott Rosen acquired some of the assets and formed NSC Holdings, Inc. The company has since reopened 11 locations in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

Shop.Com has been criticized for being the ultimate multi-level marketing scheme, however, with nearly half a billion dollars in sales, it seems customers are inclined to disagree.

Gordmans Corporate Office

Gordmans was founded when Dan Gordman married into the Richman family, who operated a small clothing store in Omaha, Nebraska. Gordman became a full partner in the company when he married Esther Richman. The company expanded and in 1948, was renamed Richman Gordman.

In 1975, the company opened a small store named the 1/2 Price Store, which offered merchandise from the Richman Gordman locations at 50 to 75 percent off. In 1990, the 1/2 Price Store had more than 16 locations, as well as 16 Richman Gordman stores.

In 1992, the company filed for bankruptcy and reorganized so that all 1/2 Price Stores were renamed to Gordmans. Sun Capital Partners purchased the company in 2008 and took it public in 2010. Gordmans is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol: GMAN.

Gordmans has 99 locations in 22 states, mostly in the Mid West.

 In 2019, Stage Stores began converting other retail chains it owned into Gordmans stores, with the goal of having 700 Gordmans stores in 42 states by the end of 2020.

 In May 2020, Stage Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and began liquidating its stores. Although a buyer for Stage could have prevented liquidation, Stage later announced that they would proceed with going out of business sales at all locations.

All Gordman’s were officially closed August 29, 2020.
