When German citizen Dietrich Mateschitz was visiting Thailand, he found that the drink “cured” his jet lag.

 In 1984, Mateschitz co-founded Red Bull GmbH and turned it into an international brand.

During the 1990s, the drink was exported to many countries, including Germany, the UK, and the United States. The flavoring for Red Bull is still produced in Bangkok and exported around the world.

Over the years, the company has experimented with different flavors and colors, including watermelon, cranberry, and blueberry.

Red Bull owns football teams, with clubs in Austria, Germany, the United States, and Brazil featuring the Red Bull trademark in their names. By associating the drink’s image with these activities, the company seeks to promote a “cool” public image and raise brand power.

Some claim that the drink is dangerous and in one case, a couple who stole more than 45 cases stated that they did so because they were addicted to the drink.

What if restaurants could shop at a warehouse-type store that sold bulk products specifically designed for restaurants?

Restaurant Depot was born.

Cohen’s idea was an immediate hit. Within 4 years, business was booming so much that Cohen decided to open a second location.

Today, Restaurant Depot operates 134 locations across the US. Each store provides a membership and offers items that are common in local restaurants, such as crab for New Englanders and salad ingredients for the west coast.

The company rarely advertises and passes the savings onto its members, with most restaurants stating that they pay 30 percent less than they would at other warehouse locations.

In August 2022, Restaurant Depot announced its 135th location that will open soon in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Cugino Forno was founded in 2017 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The word Cugino means cousins, which is appropriate considering that this pizzeria chain was founded by three cousins who emigrated to the US from Turkey.

After spending a year touring Europe, the trio fell in love with the taste of oven-fired pizza in Italy. Forno means oven so while Cugino Forno might roughly translate to Oven Cousins, the idea behind it is clear.

Beginning with a single restaurant in Greensboro, the company has since expanded to 6 locations around North Carolina and a 7th in Maryland.

The company specializes in Neopolitano, wood-fired pizzas, in ovens which weigh 7,000 pounds and are handcrafted from sand, with a wide variety of toppings.

In June 2022, the company was forced to repay $300,000 in back wages to 63 employees after tips were collected and then reused to pay other employees. Management says that it was a miscalculation of employee wages.
