Polly’s Pies was founded in 1968 in Fullerton, California, by brothers Don and Ed Sheldrake. The name Polly’s was used because the first location had front door handles which were shaped like the letter P. Rather than buy new door handles, the brothers decided to simply make a company name that suited it. Polly was the name of the manager’s newborn daughter. The original name was Polly’s Tasty Food and Pies, but this was later shortened to simply Polly’s Pies.

The company operates a chain of restaurants whose focus is pies. The company currently has 16 locations, all in California, along with 14 KFC franchises. Polly’s Pies also offers hamburgers, sandwiches, coleslaw, salads, and, of course, pies.

Polly’s Pies differs from many other similar restaurants in that almost everything is made by hand with fresh ingredients. The company offers a gluten free menu, as well as weekly specials and online coupons.

The company is perhaps best known for the giant sized donut sitting atop the drive in. Quaker Steak and Lube was founded in 1974 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, by George Warren and Gary Meszaros. The original restaurant location was in an abandoned gas station. To save some cash, the pair used old license plates, old cars, and other mechanical tools as a decoration. The name is also a play on the abandoned gas station. Quaker Steak and Lube still uses old muscle cars as decorations and as a theme for their restaurants.

Today, the company has more than 50 locations in 14 states, and one in Ontario, Canada. Originally a “cook it yourself” steak house, the company is now known more for chicken wings and the wide assortment of sauces to season them.

In late 2015, the company was purchased by TravelCenters of America, who plan to open more locations at their truck stops.

Hannaford Supermarket Corporate Office

Hannaford Supermarket was founded in 1883 in Portland, Maine, by Arthur Hannaford. Joined by his two brothers, Howard and Edward, in 1902, the trio quickly expanded the business, venturing into the wholesale market by 1920.

Today, there are 189 locations in 5 states. Delhaize America purchased the chain in 2000. Up until 2011, the chain marketed private labels on some of their food products, however, these labels now read Delahize America.

Most locations offer pharmacies, gift cards, Western Union, Red Box video rentals, and healthier eating through a program called Guiding Stars. This program is a navigational tool, used to help customers quickly find nutritional content and make healthier choices.
