Flywire Corporate Office

International student, Iker Marcaide, was trying to pay for his college classes in another country. He found the entire process difficult, time-consuming, and challenging. He could find no information about when the payment would be processed, what exchange rate it would be based on, or even when the payment would arrive.

Marcaide was confident that he could find a better way. He created peerTransfer in 2010, later changing the name to Flywire.

The company is a payment facilitator which makes international payments fast and easy. Most people can pay in their own currency, and the company accepts debit cards, credit cards, bank transfers, e-payments, and e-wallet transfers often with no additional fees.

In early February 2020, Flywire raised $120 million in Goldman Sachs LED Series E. This brings its valuation to $1 billion. Also in February 2020, the company acquired Simplee, a software provider for the healthcare industry.

Rivian Corporate Office

Rivian was founded in 2009 by MIT graduate and CEO Robert Scaringe. Originally named Avera, the name was changed shortly after to Rivian. The company began focusing on autonomous, electric vehicles in 2011.

The company relocated to Liviona, Michigan, to be closer to suppliers. Rivian began working exclusively on electric, autonomous vehicles.

In 2016, it was rumored that the company was considering purchasing a manufacturing plant previously owned by Mitsubishi in Illinois. In 2017, Rivian did purchase both the plant and the contents for $16 million. This plant in Normal, Illinois, has become Rivian’s primary North American manufacturing facility.

In February 2019, Amazon announced that it was investing in the company for delivery vans, as well as Ford Motor Company, which invested $500 million.

As of late 2019, the company employed more than 1,000 persons. Rivian says it will not use franchised dealers to sell their vehicles. Rather, the company has hinted that it will instead rely on a subscription service.

The company maintains headquarters in Plymouth, Michigan.

Goodwill can trace its roots back to 1902, when Reverand Edgar Helms of the Morgan Methodist Chapel in Boston, began Goodwill as a part of the church ministry. Helms and others in his congregation would collect items that had been left for trash pickup, then trained and hired the poor or unemployed to repair and resell the items.

Today, the 32,000 Goodwill locations still collect household items, clothing, furniture, and other items to be sold at store locations, however, the company also offers items for auction on sites such as eBay or on their own website shopgoodwill.com.

Forbes describes a blind woman earning only $3.99 an hour until Goodwill asked her to slash her salary to $2.75. The woman quit and was angered to discover that the CEO at that time, was earning a base salary of more than $434,000.

CrossFlix Corporate Office

Movie producer Alan Mehrez began CrossFlix, a Christian movie, and streaming service provider, in 2017. Mehrez is a Harvard educated, veteran movie producer, who previously created the popular BloodSport series.

CrossFlix hopes to be popular among Christians and others who seek family entertainment, as the streaming service Netflix currently is.

While CrossFlix has created its own set of bible stories and children’s movies, other entertainment companies have come forward to release music videos and movies, including Green Apple Entertainment and Bridgestone multi-media group. The company recently licensed 52 Christian films through Bridgestone.
