Tuft and Needle Corporate Office

Tuft and Needle was founded in 2012 as an e-commerce and mattress manufacturing company by Daehee Park and John-Thomas Marino. After Marino and his wife overpaid for a mattress that they didn’t find comfortable, they spoke with friend Daehee Park about starting their own mattress company.

The pair pitched in $3K apiece to fund their startup company. By the end of 2013, the company had already generated over $1 million in sales. A brick and mortar store was experimented with by using the downstairs portion of the corporate office in Phoenix. Mattresses could be seen, inspected, and purchased by appointment only. Today, the company has 6 store locations.

By the end of 2015, the company had more than 100 employees and exceeded $100 million in revenue. Park and Marino took out a $500,000 loan in 2016 to launch a billboard campaign entitled “Mattress Stores are Greedy” By the end of 2017, the company had more than $170 million in revenue.

Serta acquired Tuft and Needle in September 2018. In November, the company paired with Amazon to sell an Amazon exclusive mattress called The Nod.

The company revealed in late 2019 that it had accidentally placed customers’ names, addresses, and phone numbers on an unsecured server that printed shipping labels. No financial information was released.

In March 2020, Tuft and Needle closed all 6 store locations and fired all store location staffing due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent quarantine.

Tuft and Needle maintains its corporate office in Phoenix, Arizona.

PlushCare Corporate Office

Ryan McQuaid had his fill of looking for local doctors and sitting in waiting rooms only to spend 10 minutes being seen by a doctor who is in a hurry to get to the next patient.

Dr. James Wantuck was also tired of being the doctor who was pushed to see more and more patients, including patients who could actually be helped with nothing more than a video call.

Out of these frustrations, PlushCare was formed in 2013. Dr. Wyntuck began by seeing patients via video call from the back office of his practice while Ryan handled the phone calls and made appointments.

The company used crowdfunding for startup funds and has since expanded its services to include Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

As of February 2016, the company received $8 million in Series A funding, enabling them to expand to 31 states.

PlushCare provides continuous access to board-certified, state-licensed physicians for non-emergency medical issues such as allergies, bronchitis, pink eye, sinus problems, and ear infection via audio-video technology for consultations regarding medical advice, diagnoses, and basic prescription medications.

The company gets excellent reviews from nearly everyone.

The company received an additional $23 million in Series B funding, enabling them to double their staff and fuel company growth.

During the coronavirus crisis in the early months of 2020, PlushCare saw a 70 percent increase in appointments.

The company maintains its corporate office in San Francisco, California.

Lucid Motors Corporate Office

Bernard Tse, Sheaupyng Lin, & Sam Weng originally founded their electric car company as “Atieva” in 2007. After years of more intense research and design, the company decided to rebrand itself in 2016 as Lucid.

Some of the 500 employees had worked for other EV (electric vehicle) companies including Tesla and Mazda.

Peter Rawlinson, former engineer for Tesla, joined the company in 2016.

In late 2016, the company announced its plans to build a $700 million manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. The company’s plan was to hire 2,000 persons and begin by manufacturing 20,000 cars a year, and to gradually increase production until 2020 when they hoped to build 130,000 cars each year. The factory currently has a maximum yearly capacity of 380,000 vehicles per year.

The Lucid Air, a fully electric car model, was unveiled in December 2016. The vehicle has two electric motors, the front motor having 400 horsepower and the rear motor 600 horsepower.

Lucid has an agreement with MobileEye to use their EyeQ4 chips. Each Lucid vehicle has 8 cameras and is autonomous ready, should this type of driverless mobility be approved for general use.

Lucid’s lithium-ion batteries are produced by Samsung and LG Chem.

The company has partnered with ElectrifyAmerica to use its nationwide charging network.

Lucid plans to open 8 showrooms, 5 in California, by the end of 2020.

The company maintains a corporate office in Newark, California.

OddFellows Cafe + Bar Corporate Office

OddFellows Cafe and Bar, often referred to by locals as OddFellows, was founded in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle, Washington, by Linda Derschang in 2008.

The cafe interior resembles a dried out shipwreck, with old-time photos of stern-looking folks on the walls. The restaurant serves coffee and light breakfasts in the morning, a full menu until midnight, then strictly alcoholic drinks for two hours.

Chef Forrest Brunton has been working at the cafe since 2012, cooking up all kinds of delicious meals and snacks. The cafe is known to locals as the “hip” place to be.

Linda Derschang heads the Derschang group, which owns OddFellows Cafe, Little OddFellows Bookstore, Linda’s Tavern, and Kings Hardware, all located in Seattle, Washington.

Owner Linda Derschang says that the coronavirus and subsequent quarantine has hit older business owners like herself harder than younger owners.

OddFellows Cafe + Bar headquarters are located on 10th Avenue in Seattle, Washington.

Nectar Sleep Mattress Corporate Office

Craig Schmeizer, Eric Hutchinson, and Ran Reske believed that the market was ready for a new type of mattress, and founded Nectar in 2017 with no venture capital.

The company also sells pillows, bed frames, mattress protectors, and weighted blankets.

Nectar Sleep offers the longest trial period of any mattress-in-a-box currently sold- 365 days from the date of sale.

The company also offers the military a 15% discount on their products.

Nectar Sleep maintains a corporate office in Palo Alto, California.
