Unisys was founded in 1986 when Burroughs bought Sperry for $4.8 billion. The name Unisys was chosen for the new company because it contained parts of the words united, information, and systems.

Today the company is a top global IT consulting company, offering services such as outsourcing, systems integration, consulting, infrastructure services, core maintenance, and the development of enterprise-class servers and related operating systems.
