Belk was founded by William Henry Belk in 1888 in Monroe, North Carolina. The store was originally called New York Racket and then renamed to Belk Brothers.
In 1908, the company headquarters was moved to Charlotte, where it remains today. A huge flagship store was built where the Bank of America Corporate Center now stands.
In 1921, the Belks begin partnering with the Leggett brothers to open new stores.
In 1952, the company opens its first shopping center in Florida.
In 1956, department store chain Efird is acquired.
In 1988, a new corporate headquarters is constructed in Charlotte.
In 1998, the company consolidates its 112 brands to form Belk Inc.
In 2004, John M. Belk retires as CEO after 50 years of leading the company. He is replaced by Thomas Belk.
In April of 2015, Belk was sold to a private equity firm, Sycamore Partners. Since then, it has laid off more than 200 persons from the corporate office and slashed jobs across the board at all 300 store locations.
In June 2018, the company was listed as one of the three worst employers to work for in North Carolina.
Today, there are over 300 Belk department stores in the US.
Headquarters remain in Charlotte, North Carolina, at this time.

This is ridiculous. I have purchased an expensive item from belk on 2/14. It was a 2 day expedited shipping. Here we are 8 days later. My package says it has not been picked up on Belk site. On FedEx, no estimated delivery times. Belk customer service is awful. No help. Just of if not here in another 8 days we will refund you the money or send it to you with no extra cost. Wait what, you were going to charge me for your mess up. Anyone has CEO email?

I did a pre-order on a designer handbag during the Belk elite customer days in March and was to have picked up my Brahmin handbag in a week or so. When I arrived at the store to pick up my purchase, there was a notice on the doors that they were closed because of the corona virus. I attempted to call as they should have contacted pre-order customers about the closing and ask how they want their order processed. I have tried unsuccessfully to file a claim with their customer service, to no avail. The first claim was completely ignored. Now, I did get a call from an employee of Belk asking to call back w/in a restricted timeframe to let them know how I want my purchase handled. I did call back during the designated time only to receive a recording and no return call was placed. On top of that, I’ve been billed for my purchase which should never occur until I sign and take possession of the handbag. My attempts to contact customer service are in vein – always with a reply that a customer rep will get back with you in 24 hrs. Well, it’s not 24 hrs., it’s been days and no response. When you phone in, your wait time is way too long and then you are disconnected. Very disappointed with Belk!

HORRIBLE & DISHONEST return policy for a retail store. During the 2020 pandemic the stores are closed, stay at home orders in place for the majority of the United States and due to stay at home orders probably more online shopping going on, (belk distribution centers kept working). Well I guess belks corp execus did think to HIGHLIGHT and MENTION of their horrible return policy (belks does NOT provide return shipping labels, unless its defective or damaged. The LACK OF DISCLOSURE regarding this unusual return retail store policy should have been highlighted as a courtesy. The LACK OF DISCLOSURE is DISHONEST, to not update your site and app for any new customers that are on stay at home orders since a lot of other online retailers do provide return labels and not just for damaged or defective items. The issue is further amplified when there is lack of customer service chat is offline, hold times exceeded 1hr and the option to send ‘message’ is slow and pointless. The entire experience has been DISHONEST. They cant be given an exception since the pandemic was an unforeseen issue, seeing how it was unforeseen the same should be given to the online customers and belks should provide shipping labels for regular returns since it can’t be returned to stores and for me to pay for my own shipping offsets any “coupon” offer. I have wasted HOURS attempting to contact them and nothing has been resolved.

02/08/2020 I ordered 2 pairs of shoes.
On 2/27/20, I returned both of them USPS tracking confirmed the status of delivered 3/2 to the address based on instruction of the label of my order.
I called on 3/17/20 to asked about the status of my return, an associate told me that they received it but there’s some hurricane problem & asked me to give them more time (at least 3 wks) to process the refund to my credit card.
On 3/31 and 4/1, I called back to check, waiting 30mins/cut off 3x each to reach another associate told me that I didn’t send it to the right address.
I feel like this is a scam. I returned it to the address following instruction exactly on my order. Somehow Belk changed the address of where to send the return (maybe due to the Hurricane?) & didn’t process my refund. It was not my fault the address is changed after I send it back following the exact instruction written. Now I was sent around like this whole thing is a scam &shouldn’t be the practice of a legit retail store. First was asking me to give more time, then changed address during the time they asked me to wait & refused to refund through this scam.

I was wondering if the mis-mate shoe police is a store policy or a corporate policy? I do know that not all Belk stores honor this policy. The reason I am asking, I am a mis-mate shoe customer. I was told at the Florence,Alabama Belk that they would no longer be honoring the policy. To say the least I was devastated. I have been a customer of Belk for over 30 years. I live close enough to Nashville that I can go there for shoes if they are still honoring the policy. My feet are a 1 1/2 difference.
Keri says
I have the same issue. I was told years ago they would always honor miss-mate. Someone from corporate called me back after the manager at the store in the Galleria in Birmingham was so rude to me, telling me in front of everyone that the policy was a huge money loss and they would not honor it.
Now, here recently when I went to purchase my shoes, I was told they did away with medical miss-mate. I too am devastated. I am anywhere from 1-2 size difference depending on the shoe. 40 years ago it was Persians…that’s how long I have been buying my shoes from Belk.
I emailed corporate on 6/16/2020 and am waiting for a response. I have heard that Academy allows medical miss-mate but have never seen anything I like AND they do not carry dress shoes. :/
Keri says
Also Tina, this was a corporate policy that EVERY store had to honor.

I have honestly (no joke) been trying to get a replacement discount card since Nov. 2018. I worked for store #0013 and retired in 2010. The continued discount was included in pkg. I left my card at the store in Nov. and when I went back next morning they could not find it. I have tried HR, customer Service, Benefits, etc.in Charlotte (including local store which said there was nothing they can do.HR and Store Mgr.) Even though my name,#,and store # for retirees is on my sales slip I was told by #0013 today they would approve no more purchases if I do not have a card. Please tell me how to get my card!!!

I just came back from Belk and it took forever to make a purchase. It was 11:00 and there were lots of people there. All I wanted was one pair of earrings. Since they changed the cashiers and they re all in one place, it takes SO long to check out. I do not like this change. Please go back to the way it was. There was only two cashiers working and a lot of people in line with buggies of clothes and me with one pair of earrings. The woman in front of me made a comment about having to wait so long also. Bad idea to change. This was at Belk in Greer, SC

Then my refund couldn’t go through and has been sent back to Fifththird Bank by Wellsfargo. I filed a claim on CFPB and got both bank confirmation that my money is in Fifththird Bank. But it needs Belk to request the refund. The customer service still keep telling me that my money has refund to my closed account bank–wells fargo after 16 months. I guess I have to write a letter to your CEO to address this issue would get it solved.

On January 23, 2019 I was reading g my emails and noticed that Belk had the Cuisinart stainless steel cookware for 159.99, but one get one free. My daughter came over and I showed it to her, and I’m glad I did because after I placed the order I received an email that I could pick the cookware up at the Belk in the mall near me . It didn’t mentioned anything about the bogof so I called Belk customer service the next morning. I was told that it was not a bogof item. It was a free smaller item. Since then they have changed the free item twice. I’ve made several calls to belks customer service only to be told it was never bogof. I have been a very loyal customer and card holder for a long time. Both my daughter and I are being called liars (in so many words) is it really worth losing a loyal customer over 159.99? Of course the cookware that I picked up (still wasn’t given a free gift of any source) is going back and the card will be cancelled . My daughter is going to social media. This still isn’t the end of this story.

On October 17th my wife and I were looking at your website under Stand up Mixers. We were looking for a KitchenAid 5 Quart tilt head stand mixer and saw that it was listed on sale for $199.99. We saw that our local store had 2 so we immediately went to purchase it. When we got to the store we found a display stating that the mixers were a bonus sale item for $199.99. We called for an associate to make sure we had the right item. She scanned the item and told us it was $432.00 on sale. We asked why the display stated $199.99. She stated that it was a mistake and pulled down the sign. We went home and printed the page we found on your website. We went to the store the next day to talk to the manager. She brought up the webpage and the price had changed. Even though we had the add she would not honor that price. This seems to be a case of false advertising. Especially since we have proof of the price. The model number that the ad stated was KSM105GB. This is the exact model number on the Mixers that were displayed. I called customer service and was told that the prices change daily and that they are unable to see what the price was the day before. We have been Belk card holder for 14 years and have never had this kind of issue before. Can someone help?

I have been a Belk shopper for the last 30+ years and I have never, in those 30 or so years, EVER had an employee be anything other than kind, helpful, and courteous to me- until the night of December 27,2017. I shop in your Goldsboro NC store. I go at least twice a month because I can usually find the brands I love at a good price. On the night of 12/2/2017 at 5:27 p.m, I went to your Goldsboro store to return some pants I had purchased for my mom for Christmas and a blouse that I had bought for myself earlier in the month from a Belk store in another city that didn’t have a tag on it at the time of purchase but the clerk that sold it to me said if I had any problems returning it to let her know and she would help me.I got up to the counter and the clerk, Millinese, asked what I was returning and so I pulled out the 2 pair of pants with their respective receipts and purr interaction went like this. Her: Why you got so many pants? Me: I wasn’t sure what size my mom needed so I bought 3 different sizes. This pair is on this receipt. her: No they’re not. I can’t do nothing with this mess. Me:Oops sorry. This is the right receipt. Her: Maybe if you had bought the right size the first time you wouldn’t be bringing two pair back tonight.* We finish the transaction and I hand her the shirt with the receipt but no tag* Her: What is this mess here? Me: I bought this in Kinston and the lady said if there was any problem returning it, for you to call the other store and ask to speak to her. Her: I’m not calling nobody. This ain’t even my brand. Get this out of my face.* I take my bag and walk away. I hear her saying to the customers behind me “I get so tired of these WHITE GIRLS trying that mess. I’m sick of it.* My husband heard the whole thing and he was as shocked as I was that 1) she treated me the way she did; and 2) that I didn’t have her fired on the spot. I am now afraid to shop in the store if she is there. If I go in and I see her working, I will leave the store. She needs to learn how to treat customers.

I have been a very long time Belk shopper (shopped in downtown Charlotte in the 60’s) Belk has always been know for the quality and value of the merchandise and for the feel of shopping in an upscale store. Since the change of leadership the changes are giving the stores that I shop in, and I go to several the feel of an over crowded dirty dime store. The carpet needs cleaning in all of the stores I go into.
The Belk bucks given for Jan. were a joke as are most of the percent off coupons. Just about everything in the store is an Everyday Value, Bonus Buy or Clearance, making coupons non usable. Your longtime customers are seeing this and the people I talk to do not like this. Give us back the old Belk ways and get rid of who ever decided to change things because it is not working.
This is a corporate doing not an individual store problem and you need to look at the merchandise that is left.

I have shopped at Belk since I was old enough to shop. In the last year I have notice that the Vidalia, Ga. store is so disorganized. There will be 4 racks with Extra Large, Large, Medium and small. All four racks have all sizes all mixed up. I though I was only the clearance items. So I look at regular price up scale clothing and the sizes are all mixed up as well. You have to look through all the clothes to fine your size and style. I would think that the disorganization would effect sales greatly. This must be a management issue. Most Belk stores are very organized. Belk Vidalia need Helppppppppppppp!

Until and unless you reverse your decision re: Salvation Army bell ringers we will discontinue shopping at Belk. If your decision to ban them remains, we will close our account. My conscience will no longer slow me to shop at your department stores. Thank you for showing who you are so I can chose where to spend my hard earned money. Merry Christmas to all!!

Why are you no longer allowing the Salvation Army to ring bells outside your store? This is alarming to me & several friends.
Not only does the Salvation Army provide a wonderful service to the communities they serve, by feeding & housing the hungry, cold, & homeless, regardless of their religion, race, etc. & their corporate head receives a very small salary compared to other corporate leaders.
Perhaps it’s because they represent a Christian organization? Or you’re concerned about being politically correct?
This concept of being politically correct is slowly becoming very unpopular with many.
Please remember that your stores would not experience the large sales this time of year if it weren’t for those celebrating Christmas. Other religions & groups have gladly begun their own traditions by jumping aboard our Christmas season.
Peace on earth & Goodwill to All!!
The ringing of those bells will be missed by more people than you realize. Those who are non Christians still support those who do a good work in the community, just as we support them.
We would appreciate a reply.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all who celebrate this time of year!

As a parent of a Belk associate I’m speaking for my family, as well as others, when I say its crappy that you guys are still opening thanksgiving afternoon and staying open all night. My daughter is going to miss family from out of town and all thanksgiving events because of you guys. AGAIN, you’ll expect her to be there all night. Especially when the black Friday sale is usually up a day or two before, or after, thanksgiving day. How can you advertise that Belk is all about family when all you’re doing is pulling people away from their families on a big day so y’all can make a couple extra dollars. Its crap.
G R Novak says
I feel bad for all the employees having to work this family tradition Holiday Thanksgiving who have family from out of town or small children at home for this once a year special day. Yes, people can do with out a turkey or ham, but the chance to one day out of the year to spend with loved ones, away from the commercial world for 24 hours and just enjoy being together has been taken away by the all too often word GREED which is now Belks principle factor. As the high priced suits at BELK sit down with their respective families this special day, may you enjoy your special time with loved ones and maybe, maybe just give a thought to your loyal employees you have taken away from this special day.

I am so sadden, upset and MAD with my family`s visit to the Belk store in roanoke rapids N.C on today Oct.22,2017!!! As my family and i shopped,my 15 year black son was harassed as if he was stealing something. My son was shopping as i seen other kids his age but a different race but i guess because of his skin color the lady decides to follow him around the store, asked him at one point if he wanted her to check him out,he wasnt done shopping so as he went on shopping the lady kept following him around the store!!!! Along this time i even heard them call security for a scan. During this time my son had called me because he felt that he was being singled out so When i met up with my son and he showed me who the lady was, i seen her talking to another employee and could see them watching my son!!!I I did ask the employee about what he had done. I`m sorry but its enough of people being judged or being suspect because the color of their skin all around the world but for it to happen in a well know department store that we have shopped at for years,it just saddens me!! Let alone of how my son will feel the rest of his life because he was judged from his skin color!!! I`m sure a grate number of African American shop Belk stores and this should be unacceptable in anywhere!!! i will not stop until my complaint has been address by someone and ill share our story!! Lets hope this was a one time thing because i wouldnt want this to happen to anyone else regardless of color!!!! Look to receive calls tomorrow and i will be in contact with the local store as well!!!

On Saturday, June 10, I was shopping in Belk’s at Phipps Plaza. I was walking in the ladies department behind a sales clerk looking for a dress. My right leg was cut by a sharp object from a display table. The clerk observed the wound and notified loss prevention. The on duty manager was also notified.. The clerk administered some first aid by applying some ointment and 3 bandages over the wound.
The on duty manager got my contact information. I cannot identify the manager because she did not have a business card. She stated that she did not have any cards. I was not given an incident report nor instructions how to obtain a copy.
As of this date I have not been contacted by anyone from the store. It appears to me that management has no concern about my injury or welfare after being injured in your store.
I have serious doubts about returning to any of the Belk stores. I have been shopping in Belk for over 20 years and have earned the distinction of ELITE customer.

My mother shopped for me at Parisian’s in Birmingham. In turn, I shopped there for my children. They always had quality clothing for every member of the family. The service was always top notch and the employees were trained to make the customers happy and feel at home.
It was a sad day when Parisian’s sold out to Belk’s. Birmingham was promised a “flagship store at the Summit and that it would carry good and high end merchandise. From the day it opened until now, it has gone down rapidly. The quality of merchandise is inferior and they have discontinued many quality brands. Coupons are never good on high end merchandise. The exclusions are too many to mention. Promotions exclude all high end merchandise..
I visited the Summit and Galleria stores today with $70 in reward dollars to spend. I could not find anything that I would take home and the reward dollars are not good on cosmetics. They are still i my pocket,
Aside from that, you can find little help in the way of assistance to customers. I have been in the Brookwood store when there would be only one employee on an entire floor, and that poor soul had to wait on people in every department.
I have had a credit card with this store since 1974. It has gone from bad to worse. Unless I need makeup, there is nothing to draw me back to Belk’s. More and more of my acquaintances are leaving to shop elsewhere. You have let us down. You need people from all walks of life to patronize a store to keep it operating. Until things change, I am hoping for a Dillard’s. Actually, almost anything would be better than what we have. The people of Birmingham need and want a real department store that fills the needs of all of its citizens.

I ordered 3 items from Belk, Order #55040629. I received one item and the other two were returned to Belk because whomever sent the item did not put my full condo unit number.
The package that came through had “250” and someone at the Post Office had added a “6” to complete number. Apparently for the other package, no one at the PO added a number.
I called Belk this weekend, the guy I spoke to who really did not understand what I was saying told me I will be credited for the returned items. Today I checked my account, I was credit back $19.86 for the item I RECEIVED. The items returned ($99.62 and $20.99) were not credited back.
Two major mistakes: BELK did not put the correct address on the package and I was
credit back for the item I received.
I called today and spoke with a very nice lady named Brenda who is trying to straighten this out (case number 028-392-86). While she is really trying to help, I feel like the mailroom employees do not have a clue.
I will never order anything on-line from BELK again and do not believe I will visit the store.

I don’t know what is going on with the Belk stores in Flowood, MS; Jackson, MS; and Covington, LA; The clothes lines are horrendous, the stores are in shambles. The Covington, LA store is like going to a fire sale, digging through racks of clothes that no one wants to purchase even at an additional 75% off. Belk has been a staple store for work clothes and always had the best shoe selections! When I visit them I am sad to see the shape they are in. The Floodwood, MS store has ample space and has always been a great place to shop! But the past few times I’ve gone to this location, you can’t find any of the same departments in the same places, they are scaling down on better clothing lines, they are closing registers, and you can’t even find anyone to help you. Lately I have only been visiting the cosmetic counters and leaving without even browsing around the store. And if it weren’t for the MAC counter at the Flowood location, I wouldn’t go at all! PLEASE BRING BACK BETTER ITEMS, SALES AND ASSOCIATES!!!

I did not see this rack because it did not have any cothes on it and it was a big wide rack. Three or four ladies that worked there came to my assistance, and one lady asked me if I NEEDED TO CALL SOMEONE, I said no, but one lady with blonde hair pt back in a ponytail did an incident report on me. I am very dissatisfied with the recent move Belk has made toward Ivanka Trump. Belk has been my store, but not to sure it is going to be in the future. Politics needs to stay out of cooperate decisions. I am very disappointed, I just never would have thought Belk would take this stand.
Carole Rogers says
I am canceling my credit card with Belk and never step foot in your store again. How unprofessional are you to bring politics into your business!!!
Mark says
My wife and I are extremely disappointed with your decision concerning Ivanka Trump. Your press release about reviewing lines periodically does not wash. If this was truly the case, your timing was horrendous. Also, I would expect that you would want to immediately reinstate her line of perfumes since they have become the number one seller on Amazon. Our family has shopped at Belk for years and have been Belk card holders since 1993. We have spent thousands of dollars with you, but no more! We will not spend another dollar in your stores until you reverse this action. You seem to have forgotten that your customer base is located primarily in the south which overwhelmingly supported our new president. Don’t cave in to the protestors and rioters trying to intimidate. Remember, that it is the “deplorables” who actually have jobs and have money to shop. Thank you.
Linda says
My husband likes Ralph Lauren Clothing, and I do as well. We have purchased this line of clothing from Belk since the 1970’s.
Are you planning to drop the Ralph Lauren clothing line, since he dressed Melania Trump in that beautiful powder blue dress at her husband’s inauguration????? Do you plan to punish his daughter as well???
Donald Trump is the President of the United States and you have chosen to punish his daughter. What has she done to you besides make money for you??? We will never shop in your store again.
Nikki says
I’m very disappointed in the discontinuation of Ivanka Trump’s brand on the website, and the shabby attempt at saving fave by keeping her line in a handful of stores. I spend thousands at my local store every year, but I doubt I’ll walk in the doors again until your company can get its act together. It’s one thing to make a move that’s financially driven, but a political move is unacceptable to me on this matter. It was neither the time to pull her merchandise line, regardless of financial fallout, nor was the manner in which it was handled. I would think that your losses will be greater because of this very poor decision. I know you’re losing my money until this is reversed. And I was just about to go on a spring wardrobe spree. I will miss my Belk shopping, but I’m an American who believes in supporting our commander in chief and not throwing tantrums because you don’t like the current administration. Let’s consider how we might feel of someone took their feelings out on our daughters…
Linda says
I am just reading the comments on this site but, I must say, your comment is the most level headed of all. I would easily support your position because it is not fueled with hate or biased.
DENNIS says
I will never shop at your store again . I will go to Mexican Mart 1st…That’s Wal-Mart for you commies…lol
JC says
Will no longer be shopping at Belk since it obviously does not care about losing its conservative customers by caving into leftist extremists by discontinuing Ivanka Trump merchandise. I had a few things in the cart also, but I will never shop there again as long as Belk remains anti-Trump and anti-American.
AK says
Shame on you. Your purpose is to sell products to customers – NOT to be a political outlet. Congratulations – you just lost a whole family of FORMER loyal shoppers. Stick to retail – it is what you are good at and leave politics to the voters to make a FREE choice.
S Tyler says
My account will be cancelled – I don’t expect my department store to be a political commentator, no matter which side I’m on. Very poor taste – is this the inclusiveness that is so much admired these days? To punish one person for your feelings about another?
Crystal Matthews says
I’m a southern girl who has shopped at Belk my entire life. However, I will not shop there anymore! I will not patronize a business that refuses to sell a woman’s products because they disagree with her father’s politics. Shame on you! My husband & l will be cancelling our credit cards with your store.
Sandy Redding says
I am so disappointed in Belk for taking the stance that they did against our President’s daughter, Ivanka Trump and her clothing line. Obviously, by your actions of removing her clothing line from your stores to make some kind of political statement, you have totally alienated a large demographic of citizens who are patriotic and who take offense to corporate retail giants bullying female designers. I am closing my Belk account and I will never shop in your stores again. I’ve heard your statement/reason for dropping her clothing line and I think it is a total lie. POLITICS was the true reason and I am saddened that you chose politics over your consumers .
Make America Great Again,
Sandy Redding
Carrie says
Dear CEO Thomas M. Belk Jr:
I, being an intelligent, professional, and informed American woman, can make my own decision to buy or boycott a product. I am appalled that Belk has jumped on the “The Drop Ivanka” bandwagon. She is her own brand and should not be punished for her father’s politics. She is the epitome of a role model for American women. You would never have done this to one of Obama’s daughters. So, as a consumer, I will do my business with corporations that can make better decisions than to police politics and are not cowards caving into liberal leftists who are upset their candidate lost.
Robin Walker says
Shame on you Belks for disrespecting our presidents daughters merchandise You might as well post a sign on the doors stating “Trump supporters not allowed” I have been a customer from the 1970’s and always purchase my clothing and my grandkids clothing there You have tasteful and excellent quality items Sorry, but I will have to go elsewhere I refuse to support a store that takes their own political view and utilizes it in the operations of a retail store Thanks for the years that you were respectful and ran s great business
Kim says
I will not shop at Belk ever again if you drop IVANKA TRUMP’s clothing line. Stay out of politics!!!! Apparently you guys think it won’t hurt your sales to anger half of your customers. Half! Maybe more! You better think again!
Jill says
Our family loves Belk! We’re all current cardholders and will continue to shop with you guys regularly! We support your decision to remove whoever you want from your online store! I just charged a big purchase tis how you guys the “right” doesn’t represent everyone in the South! The big bullies aren’t hurting your business! Our local stores parking lot was covered today! ❤️❤️❤️
S Tyler says
Who exactly are the bullies? Those demanding that the Ivanka line be dropped or those that quietly go about their business, buying what they want and shopping where they want to?
Lori Atchley says
I have shopped at Belk my whole adult life. I am a middle class working mom of 3. I cannot understand how your company who is based in the South (who voted overwhelmingly for Trump by the way) can punish his daughter by dropping her brand. A brand she developed put her heart and soul into. Not only has she been a very successful business woman, she has done it as a wife and a mom. She is a refreshing example for all of us that as a woman you can follow your dreams. For a company, that caters to women of all ages, races, political and religious beliefs, and economic classes, this is more than disappointing. Caving to a political agenda that leaves the majority of middle class women out is wrong. And don’t try to tell me this was a business decision, I am not that gullible. May God bless Ms. Trump and her family. She will succeed despite your malicious efforts to send her to failure. I am cancelling my Belk card today, and I promise I will never walk into your stores again. I am only 1 but sometimes millions of ones can make a big difference.
Carol thompkins says
I am so upset that my favorite place to shop is not conducting business with their customers in mind but is wanting to be counted in the hurtful liberal movement instead. if you do some checking I am sure that the people who are stirring up this mess are not the ones even shopping your stores anyway. Please don’t get caught up in this Ivanka Trump mess. we voted and Trump is our president. Dividing our country is not going to make him less president.
Kim Fobbins says
Just heard Belk decided to join politics. Like everyone else, I’m appalled. You just told me I’m not worth anything as a customer because I support Trump. Well guess what? I no longer have to support Belk. My money will go where I’m appreciated as a consumer, not where political views will censor what I can and can’t purchase. And I don’t believe for a minute that this had to do with Ivankas line not selling well. I’ve never heard Belk make a statement for any other line that wasn’t selling well. The product just quietly disappeared. We don’t tell you what you can sell, what gives you the right to tell us what we can buy? Your a retail department store. Nothing more, nothing less. Your view point will not influence me. There are plenty other department stores to shop at. My business will be going elsewhere.
Vickie Hadden says
Why the corporate world decided to get into politics I don’t know. You have made a mistake. I have shopped your store frequently; however, since you decided to remove Ivanka Trump’s line from your stores, I will not be shopping your Summit or Galleria stores in Birmingham, Alabama any longer. Ms. Trump did not run for president her Father did. Punishing Ms. Trump is definitely showing poor decision making. My show of power will be withholding my almighty dollar from your stores. I will shop elsewhere. Have a good day.
suzie says
Goodbye belk. I will no longer give my business to your “politically correct” decision to stop carrying Ivanka Trump’s clothing line online. So disappointed you went political. This elite customer will no longer shop with you, nor will my family and friends.
Bonnie Little says
Shame on you all Belk. I have shopped at your store for a long time but what you people have done to Ivanka is deplorable. You bend to the liberals and do their bidding to the dismay of your customers. Boycott is such a nasty-sounding word, but that is exactly what the majority of your customers are doing including me. I won’t walk in your store again and that’s sad because it is basically the only “department” store in my town other than TJ Maxx and Marshalls, which have also jumped ship and screwed its customers. I won’t be partaking in any of your stores again. You all can say it was because of “sales” and we all know that is BS from the word go. You don’t fool us anymore. We the people have waked up to your unscrupulous actions so I hope you enjoy keeping your merchandise for quite a long time.
karen stubbs says
I used to shop at Belk’s – not any more. Belk’s or any of its companies are on the No Go List due to the shabby treatment of Ivanka Trump. What a pathetic company action it is to cave in to the haters.
Sherrill Beauchamp says
I am so disappointed with Belk. I have shopped there all my life. That is counting the years my mother shopped there for me when I was growing up. I am now 72 years old. So that tells you how long.
What is your reason for not selling Ivankas line of clothing? She has not done one thing to Belk Corporation. You have made a big mistake. You are losing many loyal customers that have made you what you are today.
I know that I am not important to your busiiness, but by the time everyone finds out about this decision, you may be sorry. I will have to go to another store. You Liberals need to get over it.
You better think twice. Sherrill Beauchamp
Mary G. Chitty says
I am just about as disgusted with the left in this country as I have been with anyone or any business. The conservatives have been targeted for 8 solid years with absolutely nowhere to turn because the Republicans were just about as bad. We didn’t elect Donald Trump because he acted perfect, that only came with Jesus Christ. I have seen a man who had a perfect life, wonderful family and all the money he and his family could ever spend be demonized, along with the people who supported him and I am absolutely repulsed by businesses like yours that are again showing the conservatives how unimportant we are if we dare to support Trump, law and order, LEGAL immigration and support our police and military. I am absolutely raging at the unfairness toward us all and I demand an apology. I will not continue to shop with Belks, which I have done a lot of in the last 4 or 5 years and have suggested it to many friends——NO MORE I will be sure that if they aren’t aware of your profound prejudice against conservatives and Trump. I have never seen anyone so misquoted, so demonized for wanting to bring our country out of the appalling hole it is in and finally bring some jobs back to the millions out of work that are no longer on the government roles. I feel like I have entered some level of Hell and this world is becoming Dante’s Inferno. All I can say is if things don’t change businesses like yours are going to go under because the money is in the pockets of the conservatives, not the lying, stealing, Muslim terrorist supporting monsters that have brainwashed fools like you for 8 years and pushed the horrendous Progressive agenda across this country and especially in our schools for 100 years and brought this country to it’s knees. Conservatives are sick of being the silent majority and we will stand up for our rights and our country.

Belk Corp. Attn: Dumb and Dumber 2: When a business takes a political stand instead of keeping their customer’s shopping needs or wants in mind, such a business will, undoubtedly suffer financial loss. Therefore, I am closing out my credit card account of 21 years with Belk as I will not be a part of your political pissy fit!
jerry moulder says
Another one bites the dust to political far left liberals.Never to shop at your stores again and will inform everyone of your decision to drop Trumps’ daughter line of clothes!!!Bye for ever!!!
Judith Curran says
I am so sorry Belk decided to join in the politics of the “boycott everything Trump” movement. We have only Belk in Natchez as the quality store and I am an elite member. My business will now go elsewhere to companies that have the sense to just be a store for everyone. You obviously only value the business of the liberals and progressives. My money will go to those smart enough to keep their views private.
Mimi says
IT IS TIME TO BOYCOTT BELKS FOR REMOVING IVANKA TRUMPS CLOTHING LINE. A company that is SHAMEFUL, DOMINEERING, and MANIPULATIVE HOW COULD YOU CALL YOURSELF A COMPANY? YOU ARE NOTHING V\BUT A BUNCH A LIBERALS TAKING IT OUT ON SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T DESERVE THIS… I DO HOPE AND PRAY YOU LOSE BUISNESS OVER THIS AND YOU SO DESERVE IT… SREP DOWN OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND MAKE THE RIGHT DESCISION!!! SHE WILL RISE AGAIN WITHOUT YOU.. I WILL ASSURE YOU THAT.. I WILL TAKE MY BUISNESS ELSEWHERE AND MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL TO..FACEBOOK IS A BIG PLACE TO START..
Dawn Bailes says
How disappointing! Belk – you were my go to store. You make tons of money off of me. Too bad you chose to jump into politics. Dropping Ivanka Trump’s line is clearly a political statement. All sales go down after Christmas not just hers. I will make my future purchases from your competitors.
Donna Kennedy Boiter says
I am disappointed that Belk’s store and online has made the decision to discontinue selling Ivanka Trump’s brands. Retailers should be apolitical! One should not punish a daughter for her father’s decisions, political or otherwise. CEO: Thomas M. Belk, CFO: Adam Orvos, and COO : John R. Belk have allowed Belk to side with the Far Left. I will no lnger shop at Belk due to your polical decision. Business and politics do not mix well!
Linda Ward says
I have been a customer of Belk’s for many, many years. Because of your decision to discontinue Ivanka Trump’s line of clothing I am now a PREVIOUS CUSTOMER and will NEVER shop at any of your stores again.
Tim says
Belks should stay out of politics. You lost a valued customer and my family and I will be shopping with your competitors in the future. You had customers on both sides of the spectrum so stop catering to the left. A very disappointed and Angry Ex-valued customer.
Bob and Jane Naas says
Dropping Ivanka’s line? Really? Belk should be busy selling, selling, selling product, not entering into politics. I wonder how your CEO, Thomas M. Belk Jr, or your other officers, CFO, Adam Orvos, and COO, John R. Belk see this as anything but doing harm to the brand. The progressives in this country need to stop this tantrum, and Belk needs to stop contributing to it. Until this stops, We are going to drop BELK and we’re suggesting to all our associates and friends that they do the same. Bob and Jane, NY
SHAREN says
I live in Atlanta and love Belk’s however, since you all have decided to
join the hate Trump movement, I will move on to other stores to shop. Stay out
of politics!!!
Dianne Lancaster says
I have been a loyal customer of Belks for years while living in NC. I was quite disgusted to hear that Belks is being political and dropping Ivanka Trumps line on your website. I don’t plan to shop there anymore. Just because your leadership did not vote for Donald Trump doe snot give you the right to retaliate and hurt his daughter. Quite despicable! -Dianne
Jan Roman says
I’m extremely disappointed in Belk. I have been a customer for over 30 years. To remove a person’s merchandise (Ivanka Trump) due to political reason is absurd. This stupidity has got to stop.
I will not be shopping with Belk (and I’m an Elite Card holder) until the stand against Trump has been reversed.
Sincerely,
Jan Spivey Roman
Carol says
I will be cancelling my Belk credit card immediately!
Belk has always been one of my favorite places to shop. However, when I found out that you had cancelled Ivanka Trump’s line, presumably to protest against our current president, I can no longer support your business. Both my daughter and daughter-in-law are young professionals and LOVE the Ivanka Trump brand of clothing and shoes. I really wish you would just sell clothing and household goods, without getting into the political frenzy that is going on in our country.
I will miss shopping at Belk, but I am sure that I can find a new favorite store. Dillards here I come.
Donna Shaw says
Myself and my entire family have been customers for more than 20 years. We are all in agreement that due to your recent poor judgement in dropping Ivanka Trump from your inventory, we will never shop in another Belk’s again. We are shocked that you have decided that Trump supporters are either poor or ignorant and that this decision will not impact your bottom line. This is insulting!
Shelia says
I shopped Belk this past weekend as I have for many years. I will not shop in your stores or online Belk, just because, you’re declining to offer Ivanka Trump clothing & products-JC Penny, Dillard’s and other retailers will have my shopping purchases in the future. How disrespectful and anti-America to allow this to happen to your customers.
Teresa says
I just read that Belk has decided to throw its hat into the political ring by dropping Ivanka Trumps clothing and jewelry. I have been a loyal customer for many years and shop at Belk weekly. As a result of your political decision I will be forced to disassociate myself with your company! There are plenty of other companies that choose NOT to get involved in politics that would benefit from Trump supporters. If this is true you are making a poor decision as Trump obviously has a lot of supporters since he DID WIN the election. Removing Ivanka’s line will NOT change the fact that Donald Trump is OUR President for the next 4 years. The only thing that will occur from your action is a LOSS of business and revenue for Belk stores. I would greatly appreciate a response!
A. King says
I have shopped at Belk all my life, I worked at Belk while in college and my grandmother even retired there after over 20 years of service. I have had a Belk credit card for 20 years, until today. I will no longer shop there as I am tired corporations dictating my shopping options because of a couple of liberal bloggers threatening to boycott because they are not getting their way politically so they are throwing a temper tantrum and big business is cowering down. I’d be will willing to bet 80% of these “internet” boy-cotters never have even walked into a Belk store. So I hope you losing business of people who actually shop at your store will make a more long term effect than those snowflakes who don’t get their way. Why don’t you work on creating a better shopping experience instead of packed, junked up stores that you can’t move around in and stay out of politics!
JIM & CAROL says
DEAR MR. BELK JR. I AM SO SORRY THAT YOU HAVE DECIDED TO DROP THE IVANKA PRODUCT LINE. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE STORES SUCH AS YOURS DID NOT HAVE POLITICAL ATTACHMENTS. I GUESS I WAS WRONG. I WILL SHOP SOMEWARE ELSE.

C Russell says
We have shopped at belk for many years , however it ends today. Your political stance has shown its true colors to your customers. Unreal that you would make this decision based on your biased political reasoning. We will try our best to get the word out to boycott your stores nationwide, so hopefully you can survive with the clients you have chosen. Good luck !!

To whom it concerns,
you just let every Trump voter down, you had no business getting involved in the political circus/leftist crazy bunch, shame on you. Belks/leggetts was founded by a Christian family, you really made a huge mistake,
The deplorables will be boycotting your stores, I will drive miles away to shop at other stores, your loss others that carry Ivanka’s line wins. after all isn’t that why you shove credit cards down every shoppers throats for, to spend more money.
no more of my money goes to you guys and neither are my many friends shopping with. you. Karma baby!

You are shameful!!! We will not shop in you store again!! Ever!!
Lillian Carpenter says
I am disgusted with Belk. I have been a faithful customer since before I was born. I buy almost all my clothes at Belk, but this means I will be looking for another store. I also love to window shop there which usually means I buy something. Honestly, I am not sure of what I am going to do since it is the only department store where I live. The only other decent place is Marshall’s and there about to get a message from me also. I guess it is a good thing I have already stocked up pretty well. I wish stores would just sell merchandise and keep their political stands to themselves. Ivanka Trump’s line of clothing is one of the few that even appeal to me anymore because it is conservative, well made, classy, and modest. It is getting awfully hard for me to find appropriate dresses at almost 60. I am petite so finding clothes that don’t look like I am trying to be a 20 something is getting harder and harder.
Lillian Carpenter says
Correction on fifth line – they are (Marshall’s) not there
Alice griner says

I am not sorry to inform you that I will no longer be a Belk shopper due to your recent decision to involve politics.
Deborah Myers says
So sorry you feel it necessary to drop Ivanka Trumps clothing line..have shopped here 43 years. Eventually you will feel the error of mixing business with politics. I voted for Trump and have no problem saying it. So so feel the need to punish your mostly middle class customers for there personal decision…hope it works out for you.
Bradina C Benson says
I WILL NEVER WALK IN YOUR STORES AGAIN, AND I LOVED MY BELKS. How can you be against a woman who has done everything right. She is the kind of woman I want my daughter to become. Ivanka Trump is nothing but the example of what we tell our girls they can be. So if all these sicks spread their legs on stage and do vulgar things we support that right????? so only support vulgar classless women, GOT IT. well not me! I AM WITH HER……IVANKA TRUMP. I pray you lose a ton of business, I pray you suffer for the wrong you have done. SHAME ON YOU. I AM A DEMOCRAT I AM FEMALE I AM BLACK AND I AM PROUD OF IVANKA TRUMP. THANK YOU FOR GIVING MY 9 YEAR OLD A GOOD ROLE MODEL. BELKS YOU ARE SO CLASSLESS AND POLITICAL.
Linda says
Bradina, You are so right. Your precious 9 year old daughter deserves a role model like Ivanka Trump. She presents herself with kindness and class. I truly believe she is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Little girls need to learn to be classy and Christian, not trashy like the comments that came from Madonna and Ashley Judd. They are disgusting and so is Belk for supporting this type of behavior.
God bless you for wanting “more” for your daughter. You are a classy lady !
Karen says
What the heck is wrong with you Belk? Your job is to provide a service and if your snowflake employees don’t want to sell Ivanka’s merchandise, let them quit! This whole thing is ridiculous and you guys have caved-stand up and be an American please!!!!
Susan Patterson says
I have been a Belk’s customer for 20 years. That relationship stops today. I saw that Belk’s recently had to lay off 60 people at your corporate office. Is it really smart to alienate probably more than half of your customers…considering where your stores are located? Unbelievable that Belk’s has become so political.
Larry Checkwood says
This is the dumbest idea to drop a line because of politics. Belks business is not doing well along with Macys. So the CEO decides to alienate its customer base. Think about that? Belks/Macys customers are in the suburbs not in downtown areas. Most of Trumps support is in the suburbs. If I had stock in Macys or Belks I would be out ragged. As a customer I will cancel my credit card and shop a company that is not political. Get rid of your CEO and maybe I might return as a customer.
Tina says
I have shopped at Belk for 30 yrs been my go to store. I will be finding another. Stay out of Politics. Ivanca is a classy lady has done nothing to no one. Dropping her line is a big mistake!
Donna Walls says
This is a very difficult letter to write. When I learned, this morning, that Belk had “jumped on the bandwagon” and joined other closed-minded retail establishments in the discontinuance of Ivanka Trump merchandise I was astounded, flabbergasted, shocked, . . . It is unbelievable!
I cannot find the words to express my dismay, disappointment, frustration with what, for many years, was my favorite store. Since the sale by the Belk family I have noticed many changes; yet this one is really hard to comprehend. I didn’t realize that Belk was so politically oriented that it had to “lash out” at the daughter of the POTUS whose administration is pro business. I wonder what the beloved Belk family would have done. What I thought was a business of the genteel south just reacted in a most unbecoming way. It appears it has yielded to the very vocal, disruptive, riotous half of the country rather than the more genteel, patriotic lovers of the country. Actions such as this tend to divide the country even more than it is. Cannot we rise above the hate being spewed across the nation and around the world?
Adonna Perez says
A message was sent to your customer service and as a woman I am offended by your political liberal decision and will probably no longer shop at your stores as well and my family and friends. Shame on you. Are you going to be carrying vagina clothing now and pussy hats. Just sayin.
Carol says
I have been a customer of Belk since 1960. I am very disappointed that Belk has found it necessary to become political. Belk should remain apolitical. You seem to have forgotten that you have customers on both sides of the political spectrum. I am appalled that you would drop ivanka Trump’s line because of her name. I will be shopping with your competitors in the future.
Bradina C Benson says
will never give them a dime again, by the way Nordstrom and TJ MAXX did the same. unreal that they want to hurt the president so they go after his precious daughter. How low can people go. There are tons of places to by products at non of the above will get a dime of my money again, and I put away 1500 or more a month in just Belks. I loved my Belk stores
D chase says
Sorry to hear that you are political. What an awful thing to do. We are no longer Shoppers that Belk.
Doris Rigdon says
I have been a Belk Elite customer for many years. I just read your post on Facebook that you are dropping Ivanka Trump’s clothing from your website and all but flagship stores as a result of customer feedback. I am shocked and dismayed by this decision. Is what I am going to be allowed to buy in a store or online to be determined by backlash from a group of sore losers? You might want to reflect on the fact that there are a multitude of Trump supporters who have shopped at Belk and are upset by your decision. I will be closing my account and returning my card to you as a result of your actions. Retail businesses should stay out of politics. Since I don’t have a Dillard’s store in my area, I have applied for a Dillard’s credit card. I have decided to go to Belk stores, try on clothes that I like and order them online at Dillard’s.
Sincerely,
Doris G. Rigdon
Adonna Perez says
You go girl.
Kim Oliver says
I have been a very good consumer of Belk’s. I also pay my bill on time. When I heard that Belk buckled to peer pressure regarding discontinuing the Ivanka Trump line, it disgusted me. Can you say selling along party lines? Your official statement states her merchandise wasn’t selling. She has an annual revenue base of $100 million dollars. 2016 saw a $29.4 million dollar up tick in sales. I am an equal opportunity shopper. I DO NOT shop by political affiliation! I like it, I buy it. I have purchased several Ivanka Trump “church” dresses, from Belk. Putting my money where my mouth is, I paid and closed my account. Shame on you, Belk. Your in business to make money. It’s called CAPITALISM!!!!
pamhardy says
Is it true that Belks will be dropping Ivanka Trump’s line of clothing? If so, just as Belk’s has the right to their “political” decisions, I have the right to mine. I’ll be letting another store bring my modern living southern style to life. Thanks for helping me make that wise decision, Belks.
George Varsamis says
I would also like to know if Belk is dropping Ivanka Trump’s clothing line. It will be my pleasure to send you back your credit card and never ever spend another nickel in any of your stores ever again. You should stick to being merchants and stay out of politics. My family has shopped in your stores since the 1960’s and each decade the quality has gone down as your profits have risen, is this why you are against the Trump family because you wont be able to buy the garbage you now try to pass off as quality clothing? Why don’t you work on quality of your merchandise and leave politics to the individual.
m says
I just heard Belk has dropped Ivanka Trump’s line. Why does everything have to involve politics? Sorry to hear a Charlotte based company has made a decision like this.
Why should you (Belk or any other person or organization) punish Ivanka because of her father. She shouldn’t be punished because of her name happens to be Trump. I do a lot of business with Belk. You should stay out of politics and quit trying to sway others to your way of thinking, especially if you want to stay in business! I am tired of everyone trying to tell me what I am thinking and how “I” should feel! Those days are over!!!! I know you will say it was poor sells, but if so you picked a heck of a time to drop her!! Common sense says this is not the case!!! I see a boycott of Belk in the near future since you have boycotted her!
nubia says
just heard Belk is becoming political and dropping Ivanka Trump products. Really stupid to offend half your customers. you are a retailer, not a voice for a loud minority who is trying to control my spending choices. Shame on you. This is outright bullying.
Alice L. Stephens says
Belk Management, Who do you think you are trying to tell the public what brands they can buy and not buy. Shame on you for pulling Ivanka Trump brand. I do not have to shop at Belk and will be cancelling my credit card to you even though I do not ever carry a balance. It is a shame what your company has turned into. You try to ram your own brands down everybody’s throat and they are cheap and look cheap. Thank You, Alice Stephens
Charity McCulley says
I hope it’s not true that you will no longer sell Ivanka Trump’s, but if it is, my family will no longer buy from belk
Judy Tull says
If Ivanka Trump’s line is dropped, you will see a large amount of sales drop. I shop there almost every week. I just bought 3 things there but I am taking them back today. I don’t need Belk to shop at. Dillards is a better clothing line anyway. There are far more people for Donald Trump than against him so you have only hurt yourself. The people in Monroe, Louisiana are big supporters. You businesses need to stay out of politics.
Cindy Edwards says
I recently read an article that Belk has pulled Ivanka Trump merchandise from the website. I have shopped at the Belk Store in Greensboro for many years and am really disappointed that you have decided to feed into these divisive strategies by giving into the pressure of a few activists. I don’t believe that your customers are represented by this group and you might want to re-consider being a part of something that is so contentious. Until then I will no longer be shopping at Belk Stores.
You may want to remember what happened to Target when they decided to wade into the political mud hole over the bathroom issues.

If you believe in Capitalism:
IT IS TIME TO BOYCOTT BELKS FOR REMOVING IVANKA TRUMPS CLOTHING LINE. A company that is SHAMEFUL, DOMINEERING, and MANIPULATIVE. TAKE A STAND and make a difference in future events dealing with this company!

I am 86 years old and have been a staunch Belk (starting with Belk Legget in Danville ,Va.) customer since I was a child In Virginia when there was always Belk for our family. I worked in the Belk store Gainesville Georgia for years.
I just shopped there yesterday, but NO MORE! I did not know Belk (0f all people) has gone Political! I have a large family from Virginia to Louisiana. You can count us out of shopping at Belk anymore! I have better things to do on this world than to support people who are so prejudice! We are all a part of ONE NATION UNDER GOD! Good Bye!

I am so disturbed. I just saw where Belk, along with few other retail stores have removed Ivanka Trumps clothing line. What happened? This woman has stood up for every single group you people in NC (especially Charlotte) want someone to stand up for. LGBT, Womens rights, etc…It is a damn shame that you democrats cannot accept Ivanka’s father as the new president, instead you want to punish everyone around him. I am asking everyone I know to boycott Belk’s. I grew up with Will, Mike, and Fred Leggett Jr. I am so glad they are not part of your organization anymore. You make me sick as an American, you make me sick to know that you want Capitalism, but want to dictate how you get it, typical DEMOCRAT!!! If it isn’t what you want, the hell with everyone else or their opinion. LET”S SHUT THEM DOWN is you way of doing business. Well, as of today, I am starting a drive and movement to boycott every BELK store on the Eastern portion of the US. Hopefully, other states will join in this effort, it is not all about you people. Do you realize that the majority of Americans voted and made the decision to put Donald Trump into office, not you, not you alone. These same individuals have a voice and movement as strong as you believe you do. A PATHETIC COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is Belk dropping Ivanka Trump fashions?
Janice says
Do you agree with this or not. If not, speak out, make your voice known as a consumer that believes a company cannot remove merchandise due to Politics and their own personal interest. That means the customers view means nothing! ONLY THEIR MONEY!

I have been on the phone for 30 minutes trying to get a live, breathing person on the phone. CRICKETS, NOTHING. My question is, has Belk dropped Ivanka Trump fashions and or jewelry? If that is true , then I will NEVER step foot in a belks junk store ever again. What is wrong with all U lunatics !!!!! U don’t want to contribute to the Trump wealth by selling her items !!! How LAME is that !!! But your CEO is raking in the money and that’s just fine. We will be calling for a boycott of your low rate store, and by the way, I see belks has laid off many employees. There’s your sign.I have been a good customer but never, ever again until you bring back Ivanka’s line of clothing and jewelry. U are a total disgrace to this country !!!
Judith Curran says
It’s true. Belk thinks they are a political entity. They should have stuck to commerce. Boycott Belk.

The first Thanksgiving I worked was at Macys we got to pick our shift and they announced they were going pay time and a half. I did the overnight shift it wasnt that busy we did open at 5. When I did it at Belk this year It was evil because they did not let people volunteer so people that have families can spend time with them opening on Thanksgiving its busy for a little while especially ladies shoes. We were dead by 8 we had empty shelves in the home department. The managers get mad when I ring up people because I can always talk into a credit card. I think its hilarious.
Esther Klein says
I lived in South Carolina for 25 years and when I was pestered by roomate enough I left a better job where i was selling fine jewelry. I still am kicking myself but Belk was expanding and I have a hunch that they tried to buy out Burdines in Florida, because they moved a lot of their corporate business to Jacksonville. They also built a distribution center in Summerville SC. The store I worked at was old and we had already broke ground for a new flagship store. I worked in juniors for about six months but some friends thought I should do visual it was more money and the store I worked at was huge. I wasnt crazy about heights but I was praised for being professional and creative. I liked how we ran everything by standards that the visual district manager dictated to me. I worked Monday-Friday 830 to 5:00. Unless I had to set up for a charity event. I had a perfect attendance for 2 years until I got a bad head injury. I sat in on meetings with people from Chanel, Lancome, the House of Lauder( Estee Lauder Clinique Origins and MAC) I started to get overwhelmed when we started liquidating the old store and we had to inventory everything we were keeping. All in all it was obvious that the streamlining of what made Belk special a customer service area for gift wrapping and for other services. I moved to Florida and had a hard time finding a job. I returned to old navy and saw a Belk store it was small. I applied anyway, for sales but they asked to work receiving it wasn’t great. I have done stocking at walmart. I am fast learner so the first couple of days we packed up winter stuff that didnt sell. I am pretty observant and the dock lead never stopped complaining. She worked hard but I was the oldest out of the the 4 young men. I couldnt believe how little had changed in 20 years. One of the guys was so lazy and stole my drinks out of the fridge, I wanted to put something in his one day. I started getting disguted and I am going to be pissed off if I have to open hundreds of boxes of merchandise hang it on racks for the whole damn store. I would watch out of the corner of my eye as lazy man would open one box while i had opened 10. Then they had set sales which horrified me because the store was a mess and they used the wrong signs all the time. I take medication that is like truth serum, but my calling people fing idiots rubbed off on everyone. Sometimes it was ok but they break labor laws the guys were taking pallets off the traiilor and somehow the knocked into fire alarm which iritates my Aspergers, and I am trying to run out of the store with my hands over ears it took forever for the FD to show up and we didnt have air all day. For Florida is obviously hot and it seems that that would be unsafe working conditions. When the managers weren’t micromanaging my time. The job was fine I can do more than one thing at a time. And I looked like an associate and they rarely had anyone in hand bags and jewelry. We just got through the holidays and inventory and they know I really need money, they cut my from 35 to 14. I really needed to make a phone call to my doctor to check my insurance, I went into the back where several were socializing and eating donuts I did not snitch. I know they didnt ask I quit and have to stop being impulsive.

A concerned customer says
I do not know what is going on, but something needs to be done. The Belk store in Valdosta, GA is a disgrace!!!. Management is not good at all from the store manager all the way down to the dept. managers. The managers talk about other associates to other associates, you tell the store manager what is going on but she does not handle the situation. The store manager is more concerned about her money than the associates. Long as the business is making her money she does not care about her associates or the customers either. The departments are always messy and poorly run; especially, the women’s department. The department is never organized and when corporate comes they try to make the front display look nice, but if you really take a look everything is not where it needs to be, the place looks a mess and the manager does not know how to run her department. Something needs to be done because if the managers are treating the associates poorly, how do you expect the associates to treat the customers with good customer care if they hate being there because of how the managers manage? The whole store needs new management honestly!
Colleen hernandez says
I was hired as a seasonal employee at your Valdosta, GA store in October. Have been told by management casually since then that they would like me to stay on after the holidays. But no formal sit down with me to discuss until HR tried to call me yesterday. I returned call twice but could not reach her. I went by the store today and before making it in to office I had several other associates tell me mgmt wasn’t going to keep me. This is very unprofessional that management discussed my status with other employees. When I went into office my direct supervisor told me she had wanted to keep me but since my a availability was changing he store manager said she wouldn’t keep me. They are losing a lot of good employees due to poor management. Never enough employees scheduled to cover shifts. The store is filthy! One woman does the cleaning. Carpets are never vacuumed and are horribly stained. Customers complain daily.
I had always wanted to work at Belks and am very disappointed at how I was treated. My sales were always in top 3 in my department which was ladies department. That supervisor had two full time employees that she is unprofessionally friendly with and if anyone complains about those two the supervisor quickly turns on the associate that complained.
I opened a Belks card but will be paying that off and no longer shopping at Belks due to my experience. There needs to be a management over haul at this store and soon. Also disagree with Belks being open on a Thanksgiving. Use to be a family oriented company but guess that is no longer true. I am so disappointed in my Belk experience as an employee and a customer. Oh and FYI I saw previous response to a complain about Thanksgiving saying employee should of requested day off. At Valdosta store we were told every employee was required to work Thanksgiving day and no requests to be off were approved.

Sunday in Boone NC I tried to buy a Kim Rogers sweater similar to the one I was wearing. It was very comfortabke and good fit. I went to the ladies dept. , No one was there. I waited awhile. A young person glibly passed by. I asked for help. She said, This area is closed.”. I told her the store hours are until 8:00 pm. It was about 3:30 pm. She said I would have to go to another cash register. I told her that would not help because I needed a specific item-Kim Rogers. She nonchalantly pointed to the section. Disappointed, I tried to find the sweater but the dept. was expansive. After buying an item in the men’s dept. I requested that the staff call the manager. I spoke with the asdt. manager asking for relief and why was a dept. was closed. She seemed surprised. I asked her to resolve this issue. On the way to the Kim Rogers area She did try to help me and saw an employee who knew the inventory. We could not find the sweater. The priority is why a reputable store like Belk would not use creative scheduling to staff All depts. to provide consistent customer service. Why?
Jessica Hammock says
It is absolutely disgraceful that’s Belk opens at 3:00pm on Thanksgiving Day. My mother has worked for the company in Trussville, AL for 10 years and has never had to go in at 2:30 on Thanksgiving until this year. She is 59 years old with grandchildren whom she would love to spend time with on the holiday, but cannot due to the time she has to go into work. Opening that early on Thanksgiving means that you are depriving your employees of family time and rest. It infuriates me that while the decision was made by people in corporate office who will be OFF and spending time with their friends and family not working the obsurd hours that they came up with. I hope that Belk loses money for opening that early and that the people who made such a terrible decision with feel a deep conviction for the decision and remember that the people who work for the company actually have families who are going to be affected by this. Belk needs to reconsider this decision for the future and remember the amazing employees who work their tail off for the company.
Thank you,
Daughter of my beloved Mother, Belk employee for 10 years

Your Thomaston GA store is the most depressing pathetic dirty store I have ever seen. If it stays open one more day it’s obviously a huge loss to your corporation. The employees are pathetically bored because there are virtually no customers.

I love that you are in Brevard, but I call the store Old Lady Belks because that appears to be your target demographic. I know that the Belk stores in bigger cities have more stylish clothes. There are many of us that long for better options. It’s slim pickings in the Womens’ section here. I know that the store isn’t big but please bring in some more youthful and stylish options for mature women. Also, perhaps the Brevard store might consider cleaning their fitting rooms?
employee says
I work I have to hide from my supervisor she gets mad when I help customers. Or pick up a fitting room ring up customers of the line is long. They make us unload truck and open without air conditioning. That should be illegal I know that if you work in those conditions, I would question their ethics to know that Florida 100 right now. I’m not lazy at all if I need a break so I don’t have a stroke . They won’t give me enough hours to find a home or a few more just to keep my self fed. Nope I lost my home and because they wont give me enough hours I get to starve to it’s not fun

To Whom it may concern:
My name is Mary Cantrell and I am physically disabled. I was in the Belk’s store on 7/21/16. The store is part of Lakeshore Mall of Gainesville GA. I called Lakeshore Mall a few minutes before arriving to let them know that I would need a wheelchair. Once I arrived, security Personnel advised me to go to (Belk’s For Women) to show them my ID. It was quite a long walk to the store and by the time I got there I was overly exhausted. I asked one of the clerks if they could loan me a wheelchair so that it would be easier to get around the mall. I showed them my ID and they refused to get me a chair. They told me that I could only use the chair in the Belk’s store. I assured the clerks that I would return the chair to the store once I was finished in the mall. They still refused to loan me the chair. So I had no choice but to leave because physically I didn’t have strength to walk the mall. I hope the issue will be resolved soon, so that this won’t happen to anyone else physically impaired.
Thanks for time if you have any questions you can reach me at (470) 208-XXXXX or via Email.
Sincerely,
Mary Cantrell

I have been a Belk shopper not only in Virginia, but in Florida as well. The store in Harrisonburg, Virginia is a disgrace not only to your company, but to the city as well. Last week when I was in the store, the carpet was absolutely filthy and old. The departments were not well organized. As i was looking at clothes on a rack in the women’s department, the entire rack started to fall over. An employee from another department happened to be walking by and grabbed the rack. She tried to fit it, noticed it was broken on the bottom, propped it up and said, I guess you will just have to be really careful around this rack. I’ll tell the person in charge of this department. No one ever came to deal with the rack while I was in the store.
Last summer when I was in the same store, there were buckets all over as the roof leaked! This store is in bad need of renovation! The Staunton Virginia store is in much better shape. I do shop there when I am in town.
D. Anders says
I remember when going into nice department stores was considered a professional, fun, outing ( whether making a purchase or not). Now before can get into the store good, basically have to step over merchandise before can even get into the place! “A lot of clerks (not all) carry the approach as in tho I am receiving a pay check anyways and from the look of things, obvious poor managerial skills is and be in FULL EFFECT!.And yes this is (coming from a potential customer) that don’t care to be constantly bothered when shopping, looking, etc…But do like for someone to be around when and if have a question.” Contrary to, but one thing not just I but (several people / potential customers )have discussed and mention among each other of how obvious it is and be that some employees be to busy watching, congregating, and actually instigating amongst other employees that actually be trying to take initiative to keep operations n-gen running properly.” And from what has been seen within the past numerous of years, a 3 year old can not see how anyone would have time for certain things when the sales floor be looking awful!” And yes the majority of the world is aware that mainly people period is worried about the dollar/$ bill instead of loyalty, etc…., of realizing that everything starts and started from something small before evolving into a bigger state of being. To the understanding when viewed the proceeding of a new location opening up, per’se soon, was just thinking to self, hope it dosen’t end up in the same state of Mississippi and surrounding locations. Informing, as far as your / Belks quality, I always liked but lets not only keep it real that a shopper of today seek a combination of things. Making aware also that this is not a complaint (it is factual evidence) that need to be known. Lol, and sure some information n-gen should of been relayed, due to if I was the business proprietor, etc,of a organization of this particular nature name that has been around a while, I would want to know. But if feel being left out in the cold as civilian shopper is going to constitute something if anything than what this information is intended to do, than disregard? Due to, it is and 9 times out of 10 bigger than this and to a huge degree can and probably will remain. > GREAT DAY. END.

Belk is a nice store, BUT, finding a clerk or HELP in the store has become
increasingly more, and MORE difficult . It is rediculous to have to search for

I was shopping in Belk in Macon Georgia today. I was trying on clothes in the dressing room & it was SO hot in there as well as in the entire store . The experience I need to share concerning the Distribution center in Jonesville, SC. I was an employee until all about an hour ago. My assignment was ended due to the fact that these people know that my wife is terminally ill. We live a full hour away from the job, and when she starts too hurt it’s really a problem for her to drive or do anything else. I have worked tremendously hard for this company for about 10 months now. I haven’t been considered for a full time position. But you have some of the people who have full time positions who just walk around and do nothing. There were only a couple of jobs that I didn’t know anything about inside this facility. Yet and still they took it upon themselves to end my assignment.

I am a regular online shopper, but the experience I have had with bell.com is horrific!
I am purchasing a gift through a wedding registry.
The first issue I have seen with Belk is the prompting for coupons with your email address. I was prompted to opt into emails and I would receive a $10 off coupon off of $20 order. The message indicated it will take 24 hours to receive email. In today’s age, of instant buy, this is a horrible advertising model! Who wants to wait 24 hours to receive a coupon when you want to purchase now! It it wasn’t for a registry, I would take my business elsewhere. On top of it, it’s been 4 days and I have still not even received the coupon!!! I called and talked to customer service on Saturday, 3 days ago, and they toured me to 3 different departments before the lady said she could sign me up a second time, but I would still have to wait for the coupon. Well, it’s not been 72 hours since the 2nd opt in, and no coupon!!!
2nd issues I have with Belk.com is its merchant ordering. I placed an order on 6/4 and was charged the full amount $65.77. I log onto my bank account today and have an additional charge for $52.11!! So two transactions are being pulled out of my account. While I see a fee reversal, I called customer service to see why I’m being charged $52.11. In the first place. The rep said, that the first deduction is just a hold, ands once I purchased two items, i will see two separate charges come out in the end! This is wack! I don’t know any other company that I ship with online that does this. I don’t care, if it comes out to the same amount in the end, but I shouldn’t have a company pulling multiple transactions in and out of my account!! Maybe this happens all the time on the backend, but s customer should never experience this!! I currently have two drafts out of my account. What if there was a chnace I didn’t have almost the double amount in my bank account? My bank would then show that I overdrafted?!?
Figure out your sh*t Belk!! This is terrible online service. Clearly no other company has issues with merchants having to charge twice, etc a refund, and are you sending those dang coupons to people manually? Is that why it takes over 5 days… It’s 2016! Gets an automated system!!!!

I just recently got fired from Belk(Guntersville)due to the fact I’ll be out for a few weeks for surgery due to health issues. I have been a loyal customer of your stores since 1960. That is when I opened my charge account and have used it ever since. Belk is where I buy over ninety percent of my wardrobe. When I found out you were discontinuing your alteration department, I was most upset since must of my dresses and pants have to be shortened.
Yesterday I was at the Friendly Center store in Greensboro and saw that you have now closed the Customer Service Department. What are you thinking? Is customer service now not important to you? I received a coupon for free wrapping for a short period of time; now where am I suppose to get the wrapping done?
You have cut the number of associates in all departments so now I have to search for someone to complete a sale. The people are too overworked to help find things you need help looking for. It looks as if I will now go to Dillard’s for shopping.
If you continue these practices, I am afraid you will wind up being another Sears (once the larges retail chain in the U.S.).

I was considering seeking employment from Belk’s, but after reviewing the above comments I think I’ll go to Macy’s instead. Never seen so many negative reviews about a company ever! Glad I saw this before submitting an application. BTW-I miss Parisian’s too! Belk’s clothing selection doesn’t hold a candle to their merchandising. You’d think they’d conform their stores to their clientele but it seems to be the other way around. So sad. I miss Parisians!!!!!

I was reading your statement above. I couldn’t disagree with you more! I am a former employee at Belk Richland Mall in Columbia SC. During the near 4 years I was there, I have never worked with a better team than Belk. I started as a part- time employee in kids and left as a counter manager for Clinique. I was being molded to one day manage my own store. I’m only 25. My fellow employees, store management, regional management, and corporate management were always polite, supportive, and willing to teach you anything you want to know. Plus, they listen to the employees. It’s called Belk Innovation. I’m sorry that you read bad reveiws here. But please be aware that everyone is different. Everyone has different views. I would certainly reconsider belk. I dont know of another local business that can order what you want and ship it to you for free at times. Belk is truly wonderful. I miss it everyday!!

I currently work for belk and i can say this i dont know how it is at other locations but the one im at the store manager is very decitful manipulative and uses people as a pawn. She also has a way of spreading gossip around the store. The asm under her are like minions they are just as shady. I called out cause i was terribly ill with the flu and i turned in a work note from the er doctor and they wrote me up even after i gave them the note. Now i have been late a few times but its like they just added other things to a list so they can be able to write me up. They retailiate in certain childish ways and i hate the fact that i got a raise and promoted to a diff dept and i was told i was going to do great and its a permanabt switch then the store manager tells me shes going to move me back if i dont get my credit apps up. The thing with credit, people are not stupid. I could be at work all day and aske ever one practically beg and the way things are now a days people take getting hits on their credit score seriously! Especially if they dont get approved. We jump through hoops for nothing. The managers are accepting to some and against most verses working they rather float and spy and critisize your work. I use to love to go to work and i hate it now. If i could find something closer to my house due to my mothers illnesses i would but im stuck going into work with people who genuinely dont give a crap about customers or employees. Customers complain that no one is ever available to check them out some are super upset about how nasty and outdated the store is and about how theres never a good coupon that works for everything. Item locators always have insufficient inventory. I dont understand how the main people who treat customers badly get employee of the month. Ive had customers praise me and had them go to the managers and verbally express how great my services was and im always over looked. I feel like im slaving for a company that is fake as hell and set a these rules and put these managers out here thats not doing a great job.i cant call the confidential line cause it gets back to the store manager and no issues are solved. We have new hirees quitting cause the older women thats been tbere are treating new employees younger mainly with disrespect. They are not managers but tell people thats new what to do like as if they are in control. Its hard to get a customer to like your customer service skills or sign up for a credit when all they know and are familiar with and choose to only deal with are the older women. The list goes on almosts a year there and im ready to do something better than this. Im always covering someones lunch and im always giving up my off day to work someone elses shift, when i say no im not available to work that person shift, i get ignored and treated like im not human. But when i say yes oh they love me then. They take advantage of me. Now ive been sick and i prefer not to come in and get anyone else sick whether its the flu to strep or a regular cold, i understand Belk has a business to run at the end lf the day but this penalizing me cause im sick is wrong. Ive even turned in work notes from doctors and i still get in trouble. Idont call out alot only when i am truly sick. I shouldnt come home stressed out and sad and afraid. I shouldnt feel degraded either as if im nothing and being lectured or treated like im a child. Its disrespect lies gossip and other things there going on and no ones saying anything or doing anything to fix it.

I miss Rich’s and Parisian!!!
It used to be that when a lady went shopping it was an
enjoyable experience…. not so much anymore. I don’t understand why every single time I go into a Belk store there is such a mess you cannot look through the racks.
The clothing sizes don’t correspond to the hangers.
Clothes thrown all over the tops of racks and floors.
Fitting rooms with so much clothing piled up its almost impossible to comfortably change.
Clothing styles are ALL THE SAME! Not many choices.
Not much in clothing options for women 35-50 unless you want to wear juniors or the matronly styles in New Directions, Kim Roger’s or Statements.
The racks are so close together you cannot maneuver.
Why, on a Saturday, would a store manager have employees moving departments around? Shouldn’t that sort of work be done on a less busy weekday?
It is really sad when what is supposed to be a store sporting “SOUTHERN STYLE” is no better than your local Target. We’ll, at least Target is neat and organized.
Department stores were once special. Both Rich’s and Parisian had high standards and made their customers a priority. Parisian had THE BEST CLOTHING BUYERS. There were styles for almost every taste and the clothing was great quality unlike the cheap items in today’s Belk.
To whom it may concern, please take all of these things into consideration. Bring back Southern Style and Class….PLEASE!!

Recently we were vendors selling our product at the North Carolina Azakea Fedtival. Also there was the “Belk Lounge” group which pitched a tent with chairs and sofas for people to sit around and rest and listen to music at night. They were one of the sponsors fur this event. Nothing wrong with any if that but here was the problem …
After unloading and setting up their booth on Friday, we asked if the driver if he would remove his truck from within the confines of the festival and out from in front of the six vendor booths that were on Market Street. He emphatically said “No. And I won’t move it unless Donna (director of the show) tells me to move it. ” He had no need for the truck (a 40 ft Enterprise commercial rental box truck) to be left there. Not only was it blocking the front of all the vendor booths (fir which we paid dearly for our spots $850) but it was a public safety concern as well. There was not enough room for emergency vehicles to get down the street and since the crowds were heavy it was a very hazardous situation. Also I should point out that no other vendors were allowed to park within the vicinity of the festival. The driver still would not move the truck in Saturday until we asked four more times through the sponsor of the festival and threatened calling the Fire Marshall of Wilmington NC. DRIVER COULD HAVE BEEN A BIT MORE CONSIDERATE TO THE OTHER VENDORS BUT EVIDENTLY HE FELT ENTITLED. Perhaps they should realize that the craft vendors pay dearly to be at the shows and the representation that Belk made at this festival has cost them store shoppers at the very least.

Unfortunately I am still employed (for now) at the belk in conway,sc. I started in October 2015 a time when the store was going through some changes. Now I see that those changes were not good at all. Over 20 employees have quit not fired but quit. Some with 10 or more years of being a loyal employee. A young man by the name of Timothy was moved up to a supervisory position & being young should not affect your professionalism. He is not able to handle his position at all he is rude with customers & employees. He has timed employees using the restroom, pushed his work off on other people, & has made countless ignorant remarks to employees . People quit because the pay is not enough to deal with being subjected to his abuse. He refuses to help when there are lines of customers, and will never lift a finger to help in recovery of the store. He would rather shop for dresses & hide in the office. It is sad that some people have left due to him,but management does not seem to care. I guess they will just hire new people who will eventually quit too.

I am a frequent customer at Belk in Sanford NC. Also many other belk stores in the area.
In early December of 2015 I went in to shop. I was trying to order an item that size was not in store. In the middle of that process, I was pulled aside by a loss prevention officer. I was then detained against my will by this officer by threatening bodily harm if i decided to leave. She asked if I would allow her to search me. I replied yes, however only with a law enforcement officers or lawyer present. I told her I knew my civil rights and it was illegal to search private property. The LP officer proceed with a forceful search of myself and my pocketbook after I told her NO. I then tried to leave again, she got in my face and jerked my purse out of my hand while telling me she had someone across the hall that was BIGGER than myself and I should sit down. She told me I was not going anywhere.
I had noticed this lady following me in the store. However i was not doing anything wrong.
The dressing rooms in the woman section were filthy and littered with clothing tags. That was the reason I was searched…she found a tag on the floor!? Last time I checked tags pop off all the time and it was not even from an item I tried on!
I was cited with concealing merchandise…. what merchandise I will never understand. When the police officer arrived in had a moment to speak with him and he said that I had a case against the LP officer for unlawful detaiNing and also illegal search. He also possibly indicated in may have a case since I was detained against my will using threats of bodily harm.
I could never take the papers out because belk would not give me the name of the LPO. This belk already has huge legal issues and this LPO is playing with fire. I guess she thought I was stupid and did not know my rights.
Now working with a lawyer to handle this matter. Violation of civil rights is a big deal and should not be taken lightly.

So I checked my email a.few moments later and to my surprise the both orders had gone through, so I tried cancelling the first order on line wouldn’t let me do it. It was to late to call customer service so i had to call them this morning (3rd) as soon as the opened and I was told that the order had already been sent to the warehouse and they couldn’t do anything. That is such a load of ______!! So I tell you what I will NEVER shop at Belk again. They are the rudest and most annoying people I know!!!! I

Wrongfully Terminated!!
I am a former employee at Belk of Southern Pines NC. I started working there in 2013 as temporary seasonal help but I was offered a permanent part time position. After working about 5 months in my part time position at the age of 32 I half a stroke. I was hospitalized for a week and I taking out of work for 3 months. While I was hospitalized I did not receive not one phone call nor did I receive a get well card from my employer. The two phone calls that I did receive from them was that day of my stroke asking if I can come in and the second phone call was asking me how long was I going to be out! Since the doctor put me out of work I took a medical leave. So after being out for 3 months I was released to go back to work. I was relieved to go back so that I could help my husband provide for our 4 children and help him catch up on our bills that were piling up.
Anyway I returned back to work in July of of 2013. I was eager bro get back to work and even more motivated than before to better our Financial situation, so I asked for a full time position and I received it. I was moved to a different department(children) and I got a pay increase. I was excited and proud of my accomplishment because this was the first time that I have had a full time position and benefits. I loved my job and I loved meeting new people and helping others. I worked hard every day.
Anyway being an employee of Belk I have seen a lot of changes through out our store and one of the most recent changes was getting a new store manger. She has made a lot of changes. Some good and some bad! On this Wednesday Dec. 9 , 2015 I was wrongfully terminated due to the main fact that our former store manger’s wife came in to shop on I believe the 2nd. Now on this day it was very busy and I had a line of customers so another associate that is part of our rock team step in to assist me and help me get my line down. This associate doesn’t know much about the register but she was thinking about our customers ,because they come first right! So as I am assisting one customer she is trying to assist another customer which happens to be our former store manger’s wife, this associate really wasn’t aware of who she was and neither was I ! So she started telling my co worker that her employee discount isn’t working and she presented her with a note , by my co worker not knowing what to do she pass the letter to me and ask what was it , I am trying to finish my customer ‘s transaction, so I told my co worker to call a manger but she didn’t know what extension to dial because her usual work area is putting out the merchandise , so I called my manger and told informed her of what was going on and my manger stated that”(blank) no longer works here so his discount is no good” by this time the manger’s wife bad gotten up set snatched her letter off the counter and walked away. After she left another manger come to my register and stated ” yeah cooperate made an error and the former store manger and his wife are entitled to their employee discount for 6 more months, you didn’t know so if they shall come in here agin just override it and give them their 20% discount or call one of us (manger) and will override it”
Anyway so on Wednesday I got called to the office an hour before my shift ended and was told that the former store manger’s wife called in a complaint against me stating that she was embarrassed and that I threw her letter back at her! I was terminated over a lie!! I asked if they could show me the video of me doing that since we have cameras all over the store, I was told since the recent moves the register in my area that it wasn’t in view of the camera! I told them to ask the associate that was actually assisting me that day but they wouldn’t! They just took the word (which was a LIE)of the former store manger’s wife without having any poof. I was terminated a week and 8 days before Christmas after working there 2 years ,1 month and 1 week! My manger did tell them was she told me on the phone though.
This just shows how Belk manger’s work

I went to the Belk mall in Kennesaw Georgia and was going to purchase some Brighton earrings and I was over with the hats not even 2 foot away and this rude customer service lady Debi came and stated I can’t walk with the earrings in my hand that I had to give them to her and she would hold them that it is a policy not to walk around the store with Brighton items , so I went ahead and purchase and then went ahead and shopped around the store. But I took back the earring and got a refund I can’t shop in a store that has rude customer service people, if they are gold they need to be locked up in a counter. I want be shopping at that location any longer and Debi need some training in customer service. I have been shopping at Belks for years and never have had to deal with someone as rude as her so I am not going to say it was the color of my skin that made her act that way maybe she was raised that way to be that way to people. Get her some training if she is going to work in retail.

Based on the two separate calls that I have had with customer service supervisors and countless calls that my daughter has made, I have reached a conclusion that Belks does not care about its customers. Because I have spoken withe employees and supervisors alike regarding a recent concern with an order placed in a store in Georgia, I believe it is cultural thing. It is in there culture to never follow through, never call you back, never admit a mistake, blame the customer, and when possible instruct the customer on what to do to resolve a problem they created. At this point, I consider that original concern with an error on an order placed pales in comparison with the lack of concern for the customer. It is time for Belk to step up and prove me wrong. Let’s see if anyone contacts me.

I am complaining because you send coupons but they never work, or they only work online when you have to pay shipping. You would do more business if you honor your coupons on everything and probably end making more money. When a sweater cost 58.00 and it’s 55% off and honor your extra 20% your bit losing that much because people will buy more. I have to buy clothes for four kids, my husband, and myself. I go to Belk as a last resort. Other retailers allow their coupons to actually work.
Monica says
Yes, I agree. The same thing happened to me. A recently hired employee was actually rude about it. She couldn’t explain why it didn’t work. She had the nerve to tell me that I could check out at any register. When I left, I said thank you (took every ounce of me to say thank you since I was so aggravated), and she dropped the clothes in my hand and mumbled uhhuh.

I have a feeling Belk has been operating in direct conflict with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. I am in the process of hiring a lawyer and would like anyone who has had disputes with Belks and Synchrony Banks credit reporting. I’m currently sending an official letter to corporate in Charlotte. I didn’t receive a bill in July and called to ask what my payment amount was and was informed by Synchrony that my account had been closed due to a 2002 bankruptcy. This was discharged probably in 2007. They won’t return my calls and I get people reading from a script.
In my opinion this is outrageous actions against me for a filing in 2002.

Just got a notification from Belk credit card regarding my statement which has a late charge due to none payment from the last statement. I searched my email from last month and didn’t see a notification. I always pay my bill in full so that I won’t incur interest. I guess they see that they didn’t make any money from me so they skipped notifying me and tack on late fees and interest. This happened to me before and now I remembered why I closed the account. I guess I will have to close it again because I am really mad at this company and will not shop at their store anymore. I hope you should boycott them if they use the same tactic with your account.

Please, please tell me what I have heard is NOT true. I live in Sampson County, NC and I work in Harnett County, NC. We have a Belks store in Dunn, NC. Someone told me last week that in the very near future this store was planning to close. If this is true, I hope that you will seriously reconsider doing this. We have no other stores in Dunn where we can shop to get the quality of clothing and home goods that we need and love. There is a Catos and a Burkes and of course a Wal Mart in the same area, but these stores do NOT give Belks any competition at all. We also could go to Fayetteville, NC to shop at the Belks store there, but I hate to go to Fayetteville to shop. It is not as convenient to a lot of us here in Sampson and Harnett County to have to travel to Fayetteville to shop, especially as we get older. This Belks store in Dunn has a great deal of business and the customers here would be very upset if this store closes down. I have been a Belk’s customer since 1972 and I dearly LOVE Belks and I would be devastated if you closed this store in Dunn, NC. Please do NOT close this store.

I have been a Belk (formerly Parisian) customer for over 30 years. When Belk bought Parisian in Birmingham, Alabama and billed the newly renovated Summit store as a flagship store, I was so excited. Unfortunately, ever since the recession in 2008 or so, the level of customer service has gone down dramatically. Additionally, I am petite (5’1”, 100 pounds) and the quality and selection of clothing in the petite department has gotten worse and worse. It is as if Belk thinks that most petite women dress dowdily and don’t have much money to spend on clothing. My specific complaint: over the last several weeks I have been in Belk 3 or 4 times and each time had to go to over 4 departments to find a sales associate to help me. Once I was returning an item and another time I was attempting to make a purchase, but there was no associate in that department so I went to 3 others before I found someone to complete my sale. If Belk cannot afford to keep associates on the floor they shouldn’t be open during those hours. Additionally, one day close to Easter I received 6 mail pieces from Belk in one day. Perhaps Belk should spend less money on direct mail and more on customer service.

To Whom It May Concern: I am from Charlotte. While at Belk in Christiiansburg, Virginia, Store Number 0540, my daughter and I were assisted at Lancome by Belk employee, Charlese. She is one of the most professional, knowledgeable women I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. She knows her business! She recommended products for both myself and my daughter (who has cancer and is undergoing chemo treatments, whose skin has dried), and Charlese nailed it on skin care and cosmetics for us. She’s kind, considerate, and gives her total attention to those she is serving. I commend Charlese, and hope she gets some praise from this experience of ours. I was not happy with the repetitive interruptions via internal phone calls from a management person who insisted Charlese be at a conference call away from her Lancome position. It was rude! Customers should come first! This manager needs to learn about customer service. were not for customers like us, he wouldn’t even have a job! Thank you, Charlese! You are a gem, and Belk should feel honored to have you on board!

I am making a complaint about your policy with coupons. I was recently sent three coupons to use this past weekend. When I went to purchase a pair if sneakers I was informed that none of those coupons would work. What is the point of coupons if they are not ever useable for the items I want? What really annoyed me is one was sent for my birthday and the other along with a new card and credit limit. I am a coupon user and never shop without them. That is my insentive to go to your store, but after this experience I would not waste my time shopping only to be told the coupons are of no use for what I’m purchasing, therefore a credit increase is a mute point and only shows up on my credit report which I don’t need. . Not a very nice way of getting people in your store. I am not someone who will buy something even if the coupon doesn’t work. I am very disappointed and will shop someplace else unless this policy changes. It is the typical “bait and switch”!!!

I have gone to Belk a few times this week to look at shoes on March 4,2015 and March 6,2015. On March 4 the black lady you had working in shoes did not want to get us shoes from the back. She finally got us shoes after waiting ten min for her to come to the counter to check us out. Then when we went back March 6, 2015 Between 1-3 pm to look at shoes again and there was a older white man and black short guy working in the shoe department. We went up to ask them a question about returning. There was another lady looking at a pair of shoes near the makeup side of the shoe department and she asked for help. The black guy that was working on a cart to put up gave her a XXXXXty look like why are you bothering me and they did not want to help her. The old man did not want to talk to us so I told my mom lets go to another cash register they don’t care about helping people. Then i told the lady that Macy’s is having a great sale on shoes and she left too. Your store and district manger needs to fire all of the shoe department and get people who want to work on making sales. This is a retail store helping people before task should be number one. I am never shopping at this shoe department in Belk when Macy’s has nicer people willing to HELP you.

I visited Belk at Triangle Town Center, Raleigh, NC on 01/28/15 to purchase A Clinique product. I was assisted by an Associate named Caroline. My purchase was $3.50 shy of the required $27 to receive the gift for the upcoming promotion by Clinique, so I purchased another item for $24. Both items totaled $51.24. Yes I totally fell for that sales tactic and bought something else!!! She informed me the promotion would not begin until 02/03/15 and gave me the option to return to the store to pick up my items or Belk would gladly ship my items to me at no additional charge. She stated they would be shipped on 02/03/15 and would arrive by the end of the next week (which was the week of 02/03/15) or by the beginning of the following week. On 02/07/15, when my package had not arrived, I called Belk and spoke someone at the Clinique counter who informed me they were very busy and someone would call me back, which never happened. So I called back and spoke with Caroline. I was informed by Caroline that the shipping time was actually 7 to 10 days, which was news to me. I waited another 10 days and then on 02/17/15 when I had not received my order from Belk, I once again called Belk. This time I spoke with Erica, who promptly took my name and telephone number. She checked the shipping and called me back within a few minutes to give me the FedEx tracking number which would enable me to investigate the package location myself. Trying to find out where my package is located has been a real nightmare and very time consuming. In looking up the tracking of my package I see it has traveled from one side of North Carolina to the other. Now it has fallen off the radar and no one seems to know where it is at this point. I thought the purpose of a tracking number is to enable scanning to know at any given time where this package is located. Now I am waiting for FedEx to trace where my package is and call me back in 24 to 48 hours. Whatever happened to customer service? Belk and FedEx really need indepth training in this area. After all, it is the customer that keeps the doors open. Not so sure I can continue to shop and spend my money with a company that does not value me as a customer. I have shopped with Belk’s for many years but this has really left me feelng very TICKED OFF!!!!!

Today I wanted to personally thank Belk bottom floor manager and associates who went above and beyond the call of their duties. Saturday January 31, 2015 I took my family shopping at Carolina Place Mall. We bought few things here and there. We also bought birthday gift presents at Belk too. Spending over $100 on gifts at Belk. We were around the shoe department most of the time there. With my hands full of purchased bags I couldn’t have know how If I had left one. So we did left one bag there without realizing it until we got home and notice a bag from Aeropostal was missing. I called Belk Wednesday just to see if I maybe did left a bag there. Spoke with manager and she searched everywhere but found nothing in lost and found. Upset and disappointed I kindly thank the manager for her time. Next day around 3:3o she called me back and said that someone had found the bag and turned it in. I was so happy and thankful to be able to get that bag back that I wanted Belk to know and recognized these associates for their outstanding customer services performance. Thanks again Belk for an outstanding customer service that I received today. Yours truly, Mr. Chanthirat

Having worked in customer service for over 20 years, I think I am pretty good at recognizing a good if not great customer service experience. I will never ever shop at Belk again. I ordered a suit as a Christmas gift, the suit had to be returned. I have confirmation that the suit was received back in their warehouse however, I was only given credit for the jacket. I’m being told that the pants could take up to 15 days to be credited. What kind of bull crap is that? In the mean time I am still being charged for an item that I know they have received. I’ve spoken to a rep who gave me a claim number because they need to research why the pants weren’t credited, a supervisor who said no it could take 15 days and he will try to escalate the process and a manager who backs his supervisor because “they can’t manually credit the item that they know that have received”. Now we all know exceptions are apart of any life situation and in this case it is not an exception but simply a case of doing the right thing. I refuse to make a payment on something I don’t have in my possession then have to fight you to get a refund. In the meantime the billing cycle continue to come and go on this Belk card. Well guess what I’m not going away, I’m taking this all the way to corporate. This has to be the worst customer service experience I’ve ever received.

i tore up my belk credit card when one month my belk bill did not arrive. i called and was honest and explained my bill never arrived and i would like to pay. i was told that as long as belk had my address correct, it was my responsibility to pay my bill–and since the deadline had passed, i was assessed a $25 penalty on top of payment. our 501-C3 organization used to participate in the belk charity program but after this incident i convinced our board to no longer participate as belk does not care about its customers. now someone has signed up for marketing collateral using my address and i don’t want their CRAP any longer. i will never shop in a belk store ever again. i am going to write to marketing and ask that this individual’s name be removed from the mailing list, but after reading these other comments, i can see that belk doesn’t give a flip about its customers.

FOLLOW UP TO PREVIOUS POST: Guess what, I finally got a response from someone at corporate. They said that the delay in response to my accident in Snellville, GA Belk’s store is unacceptable. He said someone from Legal will get with my last Friday and at the latest by Monday. Both Friday and Monday have come and gone. Apparently it is standard operating procedure for Belk’s to not follow through on what they say they will do. I am lost as what to do about my injury. I was told by the store manager NOT to go to my doctor and must go see Belk’s doctor, but they have not told me where to go. I have knee problems and have an appointment with my doctor this week. I hope some one from corporate reads this and responds.

I went in to Belk today and went to purchase some mens shirts for my husband they were marked $9.68 and they rung up for .1 and your store refused to give them to me for that price. They offered me 30% off of the price marked. If the tags where wrong on the item I could understand but they where not. I asked to speak to manager and she came and told me they couldn’t sell anything for a .1 even if it rang up that price. She said it had been returned and should not have been put back on the floor. I told her all of that was the store and their employees fault and I should get it for the price it rang up. If I had been in any other store I would have recieved it for the price that it was ringing up. I told her to give someone in corporate to contact and she did. I will be contacting them as well. Your policy needs to change.

Short version of a long story: I walked into Snellville GA Belk’s store and turned left and tripped over some bedding that was laying on the floor. I was hurt and could not get up. FInally managed to get up and made my way to the check out counter. Told the clerk what happened. She wentto look at bedding, then said can I get you a band aid for your knee. She went back to register and got sided tracked and started talking to customers. I finally found the manager on my own and told her what happened. She to investigated the scene. Then asked if I wanted to fill out and accident report. She went back to the counter and ended up talking on the phone and never got the accident report for me to fill out. My foot was hurt, my ankles were swallon and both knees were hurt and swallon. I was never taken care of, they never put other customer’s first. Because I was in such pain, I told the manager who was still on the phone that I was going home. She said she would call me in the morning to check on me. She never did. I called her and told her I need to go to my doctor and she said no, I must go the the company doctor. She got very rude with me. After several calls to her and never getting any response as to where to go to the company doctor, I was lost as what to do. FInally she said someone would call me. They never did. The manager just was rude to me and was not concerned about my well being. I sent and email to the company and never got a response. I found this email site and thought maybe some one will read this and help me. I am very disappointed in Belk’s. They show no care for a customer who was injured due to their neglegnce and did not put the custormer first when I was hurt. The clerk told me to just finish my shopping. I could barely walk at that point. The manager did review my fall on the security video and she did see it happen. It appeared to me that the help in Belks were definitely racially motivated to help their own first.

I went into the Jasper Al Belk location to shop for my 12 month old little boy. He has to be with me to pick out clothes because I want to make sure they fit. However I was extremely frustrated when I could not get a stroller or one of the small buggies that you offer to shop with between the racks to get to the back wall to the correct size clothes. I tried several different ways to get to the racks I needed but the racks were so close together they were no way to get between them. I will not shop in a Belk store again until you figure out how to make it shopping friendly with a child. This kids department is in a separate store so why would you not be able to shop with a stroller if its a kid store. VERY FRUSTRATING! I picked your store to shop in & could not do so. Won’t pick it again.

I just placed a call to the headquarters office in Charlotte NC to inquire about paying a charge card off that I recently applied for. A gentlemen I spoke with was very curt and rude, as I tried to explain that I had not as yet received my bill but needed to go ahead and pay it.
His response to me was you will have to call the 1-800 # I don’t know anything about your bill. Surfice it to say I don’t think I will charge anything else at Belk’s.

My wife and I have never been more insulted than we were this past Sunday. After picking out three tops and a pair of miss me jeans my wife went to try on her choices. A lady workin in the juniors section (I Believe IT WAS THE JUNIORS) was following a lady from the dressing room to help her check out when my wife was walking into the dressing room. The lady asked my wife Rudely if she needed help, when my wife replied she wanted to try on some clothes to wich the lady then proceeds to tell us that they were closed and she couldn’t try on the clothes just to buy them and return them later if they didn’t fit.Mind you these jeans were around a hundred dollars. IT WILL BE VERY HARD FOR ME TO EVER RETURN TO THAT STORE.

Don’t go in to the Kill Devil Hills North store. The store is dirty and the manager Charles is an arrogant moron. I have recently been in there to shop but instead I see the manager belittle the workers in front of customers . I have also seen Charles do things to girls a manager shouldnt do. Im sure it will catch up to him …The store is lacking knowledgeable employees and no one seems to be able to help. They should get rid of Charles and hire a manager who is more respectful and who actually knows what he is doing before Bells gets sued .. Wake up Belk I’m not the only one who feels this way corporate should listen to customers!!!!! They are the ones who keep you in business .

I agree…..i was in the Kill Devil Hills store a few weeks ago. Compared to the Belk in Lynchburg, Va., this store is a dump. I asked a young female employee for the location of an item and her reply was “I’m salesperson, not an information booth”. At that point, i told her to “grow up” and we went to Ben Franklin and spent over $100.00. Belk at Kill Devil Hills is a joke, and it’s employee’s are rude, ignorant and just don’t care. Will NEVER set foot in this location again!

Belk has to be the worst company I’ve had the misfortune to try to do business with in over 40 yrs. This is my first and last time I will attempt to shop with Belk. On 06/05 tried to purchase a necklace on line. My credit card was declined even though the money was debited out. No reason anyone could tell me so I just had to wait till the money got put back to try and reorder. Tried again over to place the order. Card again declined. Filled complaint. Was called back saying the reason my cc was declined was because they can’t accept cards from foreign countries. There was a long silence over the phone when I told the rep the card is from Dallas, Texas!!! Later they called back and said my security code didn’t match with my card number. Called my card company and they said that wasn’t true. Filed another complaint. Got a call back said everything was worked out and was told to place the order again and if there was a problem just refer them to my customer number. Called the order in, card went thru, got an email confirmation on the order. I’m thinking every thing is fine until I see my CC statement and the money is back in my account. Called and made another complaint. Today I get a call saying my address doesn’t match with my card. WRONG AGAIN. I’ve lived at my current address for over 25yrs and have had the card for about as long. I have used my card all over this country and in Europe and your company is the ONLY one who won’t accept and is unable to give me a legitimate reason why.

I am writing to voice my concern over the way the Belk stores are set up.. I wear plus size clothes and like to shop with my sister and friends who were typical sizes 10 to 18.. The plus size clothes are stuck in a corner on the other side of the building away from typical size clothes.. Therefore it is extremely difficult for us to shop together . It looks like the larger sized women are being pushed in a corner.. There are underwear, pajamas, shoes and men’s clothes between where my sister shops and where I shop.. It really bothers me that the store is arranged that way.. In the larger stores it is even worse… thank goodness for cell phones or I’d lose my sister/friends. It really takes away from the shopping experience for me!

Recently, I placed an order on line. Shipping can get pricey and what I really do not understand is why four items were put into from different boxes. They were not breakable. One box would have worked and all the commonly used shipping requirements would have been met. Three boxes were about 6x6x6 held one less than a quarter inch in diameter ear ring back. The much larger box held the remainder of the order and had more room than necessary. At least five inches of space around items and again, all not breakable,.
I am sharing this on Facebook only at because Belk states on their corporate page “Want to make sure Belk sees your comment or complaint?” Go figure.
Thanks,
Polly

I was in the Belk store at Turkey Creek in Knoxville, TN and was shopping in the men’s store when I over heard the most out of place inappropriate conversation between a young lady and who what seemes to be the manager. I heard the young lady refer to him as John. I would assume that he is a manager of some sort since I heard her talk to a customer and referred to him as the Assistant Store Manager. After I guess what seemed to be an issue resolved this manager, John, and this young lady went on to have a conversation that involved subject matter that obviously was not for their work place and certainly was not meant to be voiced in public around the customers. I am a Knoxville native and have been coming to this location ever since it was built, but ever since this incident happened I have been very hesitant to return and have shared this with my friends and family. One friend was with me at the time and was as horrified as I was about this. This John person being a manager you would think would know better and would have not engaged in such activity with his employee.

How do you even get in contact with the headquarters? If they are interested then why are there so many complaints about their stores and management staff. It appears as though they do not want to hear or address issues. As a former Belk employee and life-long shopper in the Westminster, MD store, I am disgusted and outraged to hear about the treatment of an outstanding employee, Melanie White by the new store manager. Melanie is an extremely respected Lancome representative in the Westminster store who has been given an ultimatum, her family or her job. First and foremost, Melanie is a wonderful and caring mother who others should model themselves after. She has raised her autistic son with patience and love to help him be the wonderful young man he is today.
In my years at Belk, I have never met a more dedicated and hard-working employee who does not stop caring for the company after she clocks out at the end her shift. I have had the honor of working with Melanie and have witnessed her interactions with many customers. She knows everyone by name and knows their makeup orders off the top of her head which shows how much pride she takes in her job. There is never a time Melanie does not have a smile on her face which is infectious to those around her.
On your website you say your vision is, “For the modern Southern woman to count on Belk first. For her, for her family, for life”. Also, included in your values is “Be committed to the success of our associates”. If Belk prides itself as caring for families and its associates, how can you let a manager of your company treat an employee like this? Melanie is a talented makeup artist and sales associate that is exceptional at her job. Not only is she the top earner in her store, but is in the top 10% of Lancome sale representatives worldwide. How can Belk afford to lose her!? This is an issue that needs attention now. Melanie has a strong and determined community of family, friends, coworkers, and customers standing behind her as she faces this injustice. This is NOT an issue that will go down quietly and I can assure you that if this conflict is not resolved in her favor, Belk will be losing a significant costumer base.

I shop at the Lancôme counter in Westminster Marylands Belks very often and everytime I am there I am always greated by this bubbly, life loving, Hubble employee. She is the Lancôme counter lead and always is so helpful with any problems I am facing not only in the cosmetic department of life but life in general. She is so passionate about her career and loves educating her guest. I have recently sadly gotten the chance to hear that she has been given an ultimatum to either become 100% available to work or to go part time working in the clothing sections of the store.. Which is completely unfair to her. I personally know that makeup artistry is her life along with her son who is 15 years old and is diagnosed with autism which is the only reason she can not have 100% open availablity. Her son is her pride and joy anytime your around her she lights up with the most hilarious heart warming story about her son. Over hearing that she could potentially lose her job over caring for her son (which belk has had no previous problem with) completely broke my heart and if something is not done about this I will stop shopping belk and will pass the message around to the community of the harsh treatment to employees.

I’m curious why, a week before Mother’s Day, a ten-year employee of Belk and devoted mother to a child with special needs has been given an ultimatum regarding her employment and position at the make-up counter at the Westminster, Maryland Belk location. According to her coworkers, Melanie’s hard work at the Lancôme counter has made her not only the number one earner in the store, not only the biggest seller in Westminster, but one of the top 10% Lancôme sales representatives worldwide. So why was she told she could either take a part-time position in the Women’s department or seek other employment? Why was she told by the Westminster store manager that Autism is not a good enough excuse for her slightly limited availability? Does she not deserve full-time employment because of the needs of her child? Her current full-time work schedule is fixed because her son needs a rigid schedule. Should a corporation’s needs take precedence over the needs of a single parent whose years of dedicated work have brought success to the department store already? I hope Belk takes this opportunity to express support for the employees who work to make better lives for themselves and for their children.
Allison Gibson says
I was VERY disappointed to hear about an ongoing conflict at my local Belk department store. An extremely beloved, successful, and respected Lancome representative at the Belk in Westminster, MD (Store Number 0521) has received an ultimatum from the location’s new store manager, Martin Plourde. Because she is unable to keep a more flexible schedule due to the sense of routine that she must create for her son with special needs, Melanie Lawson is in grave danger of losing her job.
It is extremely appalling to see a representative of Belk, a family brand, treating a single mother with a son who has special needs so disrespectfully.
Surely the Belk brand does not want to portray the message that they do not support children with disabilities.
I worked at Belk store 0521 for four years. I have lived in Westminster, MD all of my life and I think that gives me the credibility to say that the loss of Melanie Lawson, who is one of the top 10% sellers of Lancome WORLDWIDE, would be detrimental to the success of the Westminster Belk. Melanie has a large and loyal client base that will certainly go elsewhere should she be fired. And I assure you that once the customers hear why Melanie was fired, they will no longer be shopping with Belk.
Mr. Plourde’s lack of compassion and kindness disgusts me and it is unlike anything I have ever seen in all my years working and shopping at Belk. And I certainly hope that the brand will step in and remove Mr. Plourde’s before he further ruins the northernmost Belk location.

I buy Chanel makeup from Belk and from time to time Chanel changes their line. Recently I went to Northlake and they were out of my shade, I walked away came back and finally she said, well, I could TRY to match you. I didn’t have confidence in a try, not at the Chanel prices. So I called Southpark and asked if they had my shade in stock. They asked for my # and were going to call me back. Well, by Wednesday since I hadn’t heard back, I called Southpark again, no they didn’t have my shade and suggested I go to the Chanel site, they may still have it there. What! That’s incredulous to me, that they didn’t make me an offer I couldn’t refuse…come in we have something better, you’ll love the new line and while you’re here, let me show you the colors for spring, but they very, very nicely said I could shop somewhere else. No one was ever rude or unkind, they just weren’t interested in keeping me as a customer, again, not bad service, more of no service. I read on a website that Sephora is the place to go for makeup, but my Belk card won’t work at Sephora!

I am sadden to read the negative comments posted below. As a Belk employee at the Marietta, GA store, I have always been treated professionally and with respect. Belk, Inc. is my second, part-time job, and I enjoy it very much. Our store has a great management team, from our store manager, Mr. John Eller, to all of our asst. managers, (Hilda, Liz, Mick, and Andy). Customer service is very important to our management team as well as all the sales associates. We work hard, sometimes long hours, but I have made many friends at belk, Inc. between the other sales associates and even some customers. (We have the best customers!). It is very disheartening to know how bad management has gotten in the Belk Corporation. In particular, the store manager at the Southpoint Mall in Durham, NC. How is it that employees are not getting raises who deserve it? We as employees in certain departments are told that we cannot get raises because we are on commission but Shelly Ifert hired a male recently who is also on commission but making a higher base pay than those individuals who have been on board with many more years of experience. This appears to be discrimination in regards to definitely unfair pay wages. Does Shelly Ifert know about the Equal Pay Act of 1963? What is disheartening is that Shelly Iferti is a female and it appears she has reverse racism to her sex in this regard. I have seen some improvement in her treatment but apparently it is minimal as she does these things all of the time in her unfair treatment of employees. How Belk put her in place as a store manager is beyond anyone’s view as she has zero personal skills? Oh yeah, she follows ‘policy’ but only when it suits her and the ‘particular’ employee that she wants so what kind of human resources skills is that?–unprofessional!

Belk flat out sucks. Their website doesn’t work, ordering on line using gift cards fail, and their customer service department is completely restricted from satisfying the consumer who has issues. Every problem is past up to “headquarters” at the corporate office where unreachable people make bad decisions and hide. Try getting in touch with them-you can’t!

I visited your Belk store in Franklin, Va last Saturday and I purchased three items, while checking out the customer service specialist asked if I would like to apply for a Belk card, I first said no, like I always do, but then I decided to. She told me I was approved for a credit limit of $300.00, and to keep a look out in my mail box, she then gave me a free gift and an extra 20% off my total purchase. I waited for a week and when I didn’t receive it I called customer service where by I was told my application was declined. I am very upset..I spend well over $500.00 a year in your stores, I didn’t ask to apply for a card and I am at a loss as to why I was told I was approved…I hope you can give me an answer. When I called customer service they apologized for the misunderstanding, it was not a misunderstanding, the woman went into great lengths to explain the card. I don’t think I will be doing business at any of your store locations in the future.

Belk blows. Managers do things and say things but then tell employees theyre fired because of a zero tollerance policy on swearing. Even when a careless manager drops heavy box on you. Managers leave you hanging for hrs. Belk in gulfport is ran by seagull management. From the top down. There is clear favortism and racism in that store. And it starts with the store manager down to dept. Managers. Dont bother applying at this place you may get fired without ever getting written or verbal warnings because the store has a zero tollarence on hair color next. What i say or do in my off time is mine. Especially when i have no badge on. Its a joke. If you want to hear obvious racial sexist etc comments made just listen to pams morning rally or when shes loaded up jewelry and tells a black employee to make beat box sounds for her because hes her homie to now rap with her because she doesnt have rhythm. Or when shes refered to it as getting dark. I kept my mouth shut because i need my job. But now i am free to tell the truth. And at any point they want a polygraph or voice stress analysis test i would be most happy to pass it for them. pam, Vanessa, kim, anna all suck when it comes to managing. Debbie is totally great. Belinda should be promoted to management. Janie, mike, yelkin, alicia l, and regina are nice… Get better management. Until then my friends and family from 6 states and their friends and family have stated they will not return to belk to shop. No one wants to work for hypocrits.

I am frustrated and disgusted by your inability to keep up with customers on your website for your Thanksgiving Sale! I tried shopping on Thanksgiving night, beginning at 5:00 pm EST. I was able to load one thing into my bag ( the set of luggage on special), I then moved to the shoe sale (19.99 boots). I was able to select color and size, but EVERY TIME I tried to hit “Add To Cart” the button faded and I couldn’t click on it!! I tried to check out with only the luggage and the site would get stuck on the spinning blue circle, as if it were stuck in continual load. THEN, the site dumped me with a note that said “Sorry, we are trying to help customers, please wait’. WHAT AM I??? I tried until midnight and again all day today – NOTHING! I tried again a few minutes ago ( 4:15pm EST) and the site popped right up.
GREAT! I went to my bag and the set of luggage that I have been tyring to buy for 24 hours had gone from $39.99 to $89.99! I am furious that I wasted HOURS trying to shop your site. You could have at least honored the sale price for customers who FILLED their online bags during the alloted sale time. I have shopped with Belk Company for the last 40 years but I have discovered that I have been far too loyal! What a disappointment. You have always been my primary Christmas stop – no more.

THEN, WHEN I WENT TO CHECKOUT, ALL THE PRICES HAD BEEN CHANGED TO MUCH MUCH HIGHER. I WENT BACK AND LOOKED AGAIN. TO THIS MINUTE ALL ITEMS SHOW SALE PRICES, BUT, WHEN YOU GO TO CHECKOUT, MUCH HIGHER PRICES ARE THERE. I CLEARED THEM ALL AND WOULD NOT BUY ONE SINGLE ITEM. I have a Premier Rewards CC and my husband has an Elite Rewards CC with Belks. We have purchased thousands in merchandise from Belks. But for the after Thanksgiving Sale, do you think we could use their Website? Not! We have tried for over 14 hours to use the Website. It will not work period! I have called every number Belks has to try and get help, but none was provided. I even tried to place an order with their Customer Service over the phone. They refused to take an order and said they could not take an order at this time. I’m sure, when the sale ends today around 1:00pm, they will be happy to take an order. This makes me think the Website is not working at all, just during this great sale. When you try for hours and hours and cannot order one single item, either online or by phone. WOW! That would make anyone wonder about the “honesty” of this sale? We are extremely disappointed by Belks and no help at all from their Customer Service Department. How very very sad to treat your best customers like this. Apparently, everyone else that is not Belk Cardholders, can get online for these great prices. But, not their own faithful customers. Extremely disappointed with BELKS!

Today I attempted to use my Belk credit card at Regency Square Mall and was denied to my embarrassment. The sales person called your credit department on the phone and handed me the receiver where I was told by a very rude credit rep that I was being denied because I had failed to pay my bill last month. I explained to her that I had been out of town when my bill was due so I paid my account on line. She then very abruptly told me that at the time of payment I had insufficient funds in my account to cover the transaction. I told her I had received an email thanking me for my payment and I had assumed my attempt to make my payment online had been successful. She informed me that NO it was not accepted because of lack of funds. Below I have noted the account and its balance on the day the transaction was made as well as your email I received thanking me for my payment. SINCE IT IS EVIDENT FROM THE DATA BELOW THAT I DID INDEED HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDS AT THE TIME OF THE PAYMENT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND TODAY’S INCIDENT.
PLEASE ADVICE ME AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I WILL BE CANCELING MY CREDIT CARD AS SOON AS I GET IT PAID OFF AND WILL NO LONGER BE SHOPPING WITH YOUR STORE.
