Regis began in 1922 when Paul and Florence Kunin opened Kunin Beauty Salon. Kunin grew quickly as a value priced hair salon in department stores.

In 1958, Myron Kunin purchased the chain and changed the name to Regis. Myron began to move salons out of department stores and into shopping malls.

In 1996, Regis acquired SuperCuts.

In 2002, the company expanded into Europe with the acquisitions of Vidal Sassoon, Jean Louis David and Saínt Algue.

In 2006, the company announced plans to acquire Sally Beauty Company but the deal fell through at the last minute.

Today, Regis is the largest hair salon chain in the world. They operate over 11,000 locations worldwide under numerous brands.

Due to the coronavirus in 2020, Regis reported a loss in the first quarter of 2020.

bebe was founded in 1976 by Manny Mashouf. The first bebe store was located in San Francisco, California. The brand was focused on providing trendy clothing to younger female shoppers.

By 1994, the company had grow to 38 store nationwide.

In 1998, the company goes public.

By 1999, there were 100 bebe stores.

In 2003, the company launched bebeSport. This line focuses on activewear for women. bebeSport stores were converted to PH8 brand stores in 2009.

In 2012, the company launched a bridal wear line available in select markets.

Today, the company operates over 300 stores in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. Mashouf still owns over 50% of the company.

In 2013. Mary Dillion took over as CEO of the company. She is generally credited with taking the company from a small, strip mall operation to one of the leading beauty companies today.

In 2016, the company listed an annual revenue of $4.85 billion.

Beginning in June of 2017, the company will be offering MAC cosmetics both online and in stores.

CEO Mary Dillion said in an interview with Forbes that anything is possible with hard work and persistence.

Ulta had put plans to open in Canda on hold in September 2020, due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Also in a September 2020 interview, the CEO of Ulta stated that while business was better than expected, she was cautious about expected profits in the second part of the year.

Today, Ulta is a leading cosmetics, hair and skin care retailer. The company operates over 970 stores in 45 states and plans to reach the 1,000 mark in 2018. Each store has its own salon and offers tutorials on how to use the makeup and other products the company sells.
