Goodyear Corporate Office

Goodyear was founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling in Akron, Ohio where the headquarters remain today.  The company is named after Charles Goodyear, who invented vulcanized rubber.  They originally produced carriage and bicycle tires.

In 1901, the company provided Ford with racing tires.  By 1908, all Model T’s feature Goodyear tires.

In 1925, the first Goodyear blimp is launched.

By 1926, Goodyear is the largest rubber company in the world.

In 1927, the company goes public.

In 1944, the company opens a subsidiary called Goodyear-Oxo in Mexico.

In 1986, the company completed a huge buyback on common stock after a hostile takeover attempt was launched by James Goldsmith.

Today, Goodyear is one of the largest tire manufacturers in the world.  Besides automobiles, they also manufacture tires for trucks (light & commercial), race cars, airplanes and farm equipment.

Delta Corporate Office

Delta Airlines began in 1924 as Huff Daland Dusters.  The company began with a single crop duster that began carrying single passengers from one Southeastern state to another in 1929.

In 1928, Collett Woolman purchased the company and renamed it to Delta.

Today’s Delta is the result of numerous acquisitions of smaller airlines.  Some of these include Pan American in 1991, Chicago and Southern in 1953, Northeast in 1972, Northwest in 2010 and many more.

Delta became an international airline in the 1970s when they began flying to Europe.  The entire Pacific region was added in the 1980s.  Today, the company flies to every continent except Antarctica.

The company received criticism after a flight attendant forbid a passenger from singing the national anthem when a fallen soldier’s body was loaded on the plane. Delta later apologized to the passenger stating that this was not corporate policy but a misguided employee’s mistake.

Southwest Airlines Corporate Office

Southwest Airlines began as Air Southwest in 1967 in Dallas, Texas.  Rollin King and Herb Kelleher began the airline to provide service within Texas.

In 1971, the company changed its name to Southwest Airlines Company.  The company saw heavy losses in 1971 and 1972 and had to sell one of its four aircraft.

In 1984, the company purchased its first Boeing 737 plane.  In 1985, Southwest purchased Muse Air and renamed the company TransStar.

In 1992, the company acquired Morris Air.

In 1995, Southwest became the first airline to have a website.

In 2011, the company purchased AirTran Airways which added 15 additional destinations to its offerings.

As of 2021, Southwest scheduled flights to over 100 destinations in 42 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Southwest Airlines is the world’s largest airline.  The company operates over 3400 flights to 100 destinations daily.

In March 2023, an off-duty pilot had to fly and land a plane after the Southwest pilot suffered a medical emergency. 

Despite problems, Southwest is still ranked as one of the best airlines, according to Forbes.
