Pizza Hut was founded by brothers Dan and Frank Carney in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas.  The brothers borrowed $600 from their mother and opened a small restaurant in downtown Wichita.

In 1959, the first franchise opened in Topeka.

The business grew quickly in the 60s through aggressive marketing.  By 1966, there were 145 franchise locations.

In 1972, Pizza Hut went public and rapid growth continued.  The company merged with Pepsi in 1977 and became a division of the soft drink company.

In 1986, the 5000th franchise was opened.

In 1994, growth finally began to slow.  In 1997, Pepsi packaged all their restaurant holdings which included Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell and spun them off as Yum! Brands.

As of 2018, are currently over 18,000 Pizza Hut locations operating under Yum! Brands in 94 countries worldwide.

Pizza Hut announced at the beginning of 2019 that they intended to hire more than 11,000 workers in the US in the coming year, although earnings in February of that same year were flat for the pizza chain.

Due to the coronavirus and subsequent quarantine, the parent company of Pizza Hut, filed for bankruptcy in July 1, 2020. 

The Pizza Hut corporate office is located in Plano, Texas.

Brookshires Grocery Corporate Office

Brookshires Grocery was founded in 1928 by Wood and Louise Brookshire in downtown Tyler, Texas. The company was once part of the Brookshires Brothers chain, but the family split up the business in 1939. Brookshires Grocery continued to expand and in 1953, the company opened their first warehouse.

Today, the company has 175 locations in three states, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. More than 14,000 people work for the company full time. In addition to Brookshires Grocery, the company operates several Super 1 Foods stores in Texas. The company has also purchased and re-opened several closed Walmart Express store locations and rebranded them as Spring Market, in June of 2016.

In November 2019, the company opened their first in-store kiosk featuring freshly baked pizzas from Pizza Hut.

Harland Sanders began selling fried chicken from a small roadside restaurant in North Corbin, Kentucky, in 1930. He believed that his popular recipe for fried chicken could be a successful franchise operation. The first franchise was in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1952.

Golden State Foods Corporate Office

Golden State Foods began in 1947 in Los Angeles, California, as a small meat market. Founders William Moore and Frank Streeter originally sold meats to local restuarants and hotels. In the early 1950’s, the company became the major supplier to the McDonald’s Corporation’s fast food restaurants. In a joint venture with Taylor Fresh Foods, Golden State Foods is now the third largest supplier of beef in America.

In 2000, the company launched Chef’s Gold, which provides liquid condiments, such as ketchup and mustard, as well as cooked beef products for restaurants, fast food outlets, and other food providers. In another joint venture, this time with Bryan, a Texas based bakery, Golden State Foods entered the bread market and now provides baked goods to customers in the Southeast part of the U.S.

Golden State Foods division in Australia also provides produce to other American based fast food restaurants such as Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
