Whirlpool history begins in 1911, in a machine shop owned by Emory Upton. When Emory’s nephew Louis purchased a patent for a manual washing machine, the pair worked on creating a motor that would make the machine operate on its own. Soon, the company was selling their motorized wringer-type washing machines to Commonwealth Edison and Sears Roebuck.
To avoid becoming dependent on Sears sales only, the Upton’s began to sell under their own label of Whirlpool. Sales increased dramatically, causing the company to merge with the 1900 Corporation in 1929. The company was virtually unaffected by the Great Depression and during WWII, the factory was used to make ammunition.
In response to the post-war consumer demand for convenience products, the company launched a range of home laundry products including wringer and automatic washers, dryers, and irons. In 1950, The Nineteen Hundred Corporation was renamed as the Whirlpool Corporation.
The company acquired Kitchenaid in 1986 and in 1988, purchased a majority share in the Philips brand. By 2004, annual revenue for the company exceeded $13 billion.
In 2006, the company acquired Maytag and all of its brands, including Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, and Hoover.
In October of 2017, Sears and Whirlpool announced that they were ending their 101-year-old agreement which allowed Whirlpool appliances to be sold at Sears and Kmart stores.
Whirlpool is publicly traded on the NYSE under the ticker symbol: WHR. In 2017, the company reported annual revenue of $21.25 billion. Company headquarters remain in Benton Harbor, Michigan, with manufacturing facilities located in Iowa, Oklahoma, Ohio, Tennessee, and Massachusetts.

Despite Gas Cooktop being in Manufacturers warranty period when initial service call was made, you claim that they do not have the part to repair this. This model is not offered anymore. Equivalent model costs more, but you refuse to make up the difference. Despite waiting patiently for more than two months, living with a inefficient and partially working Cooktop, Whirlpool has decided to not honor the warranty and has caused us immense inconvenience and distress, especially during these trying times. After spending many days and hours and numerous calls waiting to reach you and speaking to various agents and supervisors i am hoping you as a well known corporation and Brand do the right thing and either fix the current Cooktop or reimburse fully for whatever equivalent model is available. I don’t think as a consumer i am asking for anything extra or unreasonable.

I can see from this site that you do not address your consumer issues due to the fact that there are no replies to all of these emails, but I will voice my opinions as well so that everyone who looks at this will understand that you have lousy customer service. I purchased a glass top range with a double oven in September of 2019. This is my 4th glass top range and the worst issues I have ever had with a glass top. It was delivered in October and I have only used it for less than 4 months and their are 8 scratches on it. We purchased this while we were renovating our kitchen, we spent over 35,000 on this project and this is an eyesore!!!! I Clean it after every use with a glass cooktop cleaner, I do not slide pans or drop anything on it. I use all rounded pans and still here I am, scratches!
Your service department was going to send a technician out and after they scheduled the visit, he reads me this disclaimer as quickly as possible, explaining that is the service technician thinks that it is not a manufacturers defect then I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE TECHS TIME!!! If this was an elderly person in my shoes, they never would have caught on and they would have been stuck paying the bill. This is wrong on every level!! I asked the representative why I could not send a picture to them through an email and have them determine how to move forward and all he said was I am not a technician. Well, If your the manufacturing company that I am calling, then you should pay someone to diagnose these issues!! Especially when it is under warranty still.
But, what they do not tell you is that anything cosmetic is only a 30 day warranty from the purchase date!!!! This is falls advertising! We were informed when we purchased this at Lowes that it had a YEAR WARRANTY! They neglect to tell you that if you have an issue with anything cosmetic then your on your own after 30 days. We, I will be notifying the Better Business Bureau about your company! You have the worst customer service and you lie and do not supply the entire picture about your warranty plans. Unfair to the consumers. On top of it all, before I bought this I expressed to the Lowes representative that I was concerned bout it scratching because of the design on the glass surface and he said, well yo have a year warranty and you can also purchase an extended service plan. Which I did, but that won’t help me anyway!!!!

We purchased a Maytag Washer and Dryer from The Home Depot in September of 2017. We did not purchase the extended warranty because of our “confidence” in the brand. Within less than a year, both appliances started making noises. By September of 2018, the washer sounded like it had a bag of mice squeaking inside every time we ran a load and had stopped spinning entirely. I called and spoke to a very kind lady who assured me that even if we were outside the one year manufacturers warranty, (which was within days of expiration) they would offer us the extended warranty without question because it was so close to the one year purchase. She took my credit card, we were charged for a five year plan and service was scheduled. After service, both units were still louder than I would prefer but the technician said it was “common”. Over the last few months, both have become louder and louder. Now the dryer shuts off and won’t stay on. When I called back to schedule service again, the date of our purchase was all of a sudden in question. (I applied for the contract over the phone so YOUR rep entered the purchase date) Whirlpool Customer Service is now telling us they will only honor the cost of parts (which is already covered without the extended warranty) and we are subject to pay for diagnostics and labor (which is the largest cost of repair). Whirlpool is also telling us our contract has to be cancelled and AFTER we receive and PAY FOR all but the parts, we can call and pay for a NEW contract. We have lost all confidence in the quality of Maytag/Whirlpool appliances. Both units have been VERY disappointing and we spent over $1400 on this set. Since being told our contract was not valid, I have requested the transcripts from the phone conversation as well as the contract that was completed by YOUR representative over the phone twice. I have also requested a contact person we can speak to who has the authority to over-ride this unacceptable decision that is voiding the very contract you authorized. Nobody will even respond to us. I just returned from an out of state trip due to my father passing. Now I have about twelve loads of wash I will have to carry to the laundromat while my very pretty washer and dryer sit in our laundry room. We are trying to give you every opportunity to correct this mistake on your end before we pursue other options. This has been one of the most disappointing purchases we have ever made.

Congratulation !!!You represent a company that has allowed (31) thirty-one service calls on your First Generation french door bottom mount Refrigerator. This means I had to tie up 31 4 hour blocks of my time waiting for service to arrive..Since I feel this memo will limit the space I require to express all my Info. I will forward my letter with back up info. shortly. In the letter I am asking you to replace this refrigerator with a new model with a life time warranty paid for by Whirpool, I have paid additional 35 % more for warranty coverage , which is insane.I will expect a positive response to my request within 10 days.Expect to sign for the information I am mailing to you to prove you did in deed receive it. Your Customer Service people are more concerning about reminding me to re up my warranty coverage than having your management team get involved. Or by the way I have received in the mail 5 notices to re up. Model# KFIS29BBMS. Serial # K23406093. Ball is in your court. Sincerely. Joseph T. Menchetti

Mid May we purchased two commercial Whirlpool dryer/washer stackable sets from Home Depot for our Hilton Hotel. I have contacted customer care numerous occasions, four occasions they have sent me to TCT department to deliver and pick up and install another unit. Each time the unit does not work. On this date both machines are not operable and one set has never been operable. I am expecting a full refund, return these machines and I will purchase from another vendor. Unresolved for 4 months – attempted to utilize the email customer care and of course that does not work on line either. Would like a response from Mark Bitzer.

Less than 30 days ago we had a Whirlpool Gas Range installed in our kitchen (Model# WEG750H0HZ). At the time I had no idea that the front burner was a “wok” burner (something that should be front & center on your literature and not buried in the manual). When I called and e-mailed your customer service department, they didn’t seem to know this either and I had to point out that it is on page 12 of the manual. The problem is that the wok burner has 2 rings of flame which makes it hazardous and difficult to cook on with a regular pan. After exchanging many e-mails and asking whether the burner could just be changed out to a regular burner, I was told no. I then asked if just the outer ring could be shut off. No one seemed to know. I was told I would have to make an appointment for a service technician, however, I could be charged for the appointment, but no one could verify if I would be charged. I think it’s ridiculous to have the inconvenience of the service call and possible charge just for someone to answer my question. Needless to say I’m very disappointed in this purchase!

I purchased a Kitchenaid double oven. One month past the the coverage date one of the ovens stopped working, one month later, the second oven stopped working. The repair service from Kitchenaid told me that the part was $600- was on backorder, and there was no estimated time for it to be in stock. I then purchased a Whirlpool double oven, after 6 weeks, one of the ovens stopped working. This time I bought the extended service warranty. Four months later the Whirlpool team came with the replacement part and told me the oven was not repairable. I now have 2 double ovens in my garage. Please come and pick them up or I will leave them by a local dump and say buy these products at your own risk.

I’m writing to say I am beyond disappointed with my decision to purchase Whirlpool products from LOWE’S. It took 5 tries and a model change to get a refrigerator delivered that was not damaged. (That was an omen I neglected to heed). I am referring to a dishwasher and a refrigerator.
The dishwasher model #WDT780SA1
SER F63467284
TYPE: 582-1
The dishwasher W10749397A
The dishwasher never worked! Keep in mind every time you call a repair person, it takes two visits to get the issue resolved which means loss of wages. The “new” dishwasher needed a pump and a motor. Right from the get-go. It was totally defective! Now, once again, the dishwasher needs to be serviced. I don’t think my dishes should come out of the dishwasher coated in a white residue, which means I have to hand wash everything!
The refrigerator has been serviced three times since we purchased it. The last time it was repaired, I was told a “new board” had to be installed so there would be no ice build up in the lowest drawer of the frig. Now, it is still leaking water and the refrigerator is making weird noises, as it did in the past when it needed repair.
This is a disgrace to your company! I’d like to have new, properly functioning appliances delivered to my home free of any charges and these pieces of junk removed from my home immediately. I’m going to do some research, perhaps there is a “lemon law” for appliances. I think I’ll forward a copy of this correspondence to my state representative. I look forward to your reply.

On August 23, 2014, I had purchased from Sears – Glendale, California the following:
One Whirlpool Model WRS322FDAM
Side by Side Refrigerator
As of the date of this message (August 29, 2019) the above appliance was not under warranty.
Approximately three weeks ago, the interior lights in both the freezer and
refrigerator started flickering simultaneously. I looked up a website entitled
“Flickering Lights Whirlpool Refrigerators.” On this website numerous other
owners of Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerators complained of a similar problem and how to fix it temporarily.
To fix the flickering light problem, the interior lights have to be removed and
some connecting wires have to be removed of condensation that has accumulated on these wires. The problem with the above “fix” is that the
flickering light problem will re-occur again and again.
The flickering light problem, described above, is the result of a manufacturer’s
design defect. Therefore, the manufacturer of this Side by Side Refrigerator
(Whirlpool Corporation) should repair the flickering light problem at no cost
to me.
I would recommend that the current LED light fixtures, in both the freezer
compartment and refrigerator compartment be replaced with light fixtures
that will accommodate 40 watt light bulbs.
In the event, I have not received a satisfactory response to my complaint,
described in this message, within the following ten (10) days, It is my intent
to find a law firm, who will pursue a Class Action Lawsuit against Whirlpool
Corporation.
Please give this matter your immediate attention!
Sincerely,
Elliott Robbins

I purchased a Whirlpool freezer, Model# WZF34X200W01 Serial# U83303702 manufactured August 2018. I followed the startup directions before placing frozen foods in the freezer. The freezer compressor failed within thirty-six hours of startup. The freezer was replaced by Lowe’s and seems to working fine. My problem is that I had to throw away over $400.00 of frozen foods that had thawed and spoiled. Because the original freezer failed in such a short amount of time Whirlpool should reimburse me for the spoilage. I have contacted Customer Service and they told me to contact Corporate Offices, who told me to contact Customer Service. If the original freezer component had failed after 30 days or more I would not have seek compensation but I believe this is an extraordinary case which someone at Corporate level should address.
