Xumo was created in 2014 by MySpace, Panasonic, and Viant Technology. Xumo is a “free” television and movie company that does not rely on cable or a cable box, satellite, or a broadcasting channel, but rather, streams live over an internet connection.
In 2015, Panasonic and Vizo offered Xumo. Other services began adding Xumo shortly after, including LG Electronics, and Funai. The company added an Android app in 2018.
CEO Colin Norris stated in 2019 that Xumo was available to 35 million homes in the US. Xumo does not require a set-top box or dongle because TVs include it in a manner similar to Roku. Xumo earns revenue from advertising.
In early February, Xumo struck a partnership with the beInSports channel.
The company added the Go Traveler channel, also in early February 2020.
Comcast was reportedly talking about buying out Xumo in December 2019, but neither company would confirm this.
Headquarters for Xumo are located in Irvine, California.
