Torchy’s Tacos was founded in 2006 by current owner and CEO Michael Rypka. Mortgaging his house and leaving his corporate office job, Rypka purchased a food trailer and began selling tacos on the corner of Boldin Creek and South 1st street.
Today, the company has more than 43 locations in 3 states and an estimated 3 more locations by the end of 2017. The company offers a variety of tacos with interesting names such as The Democrat, The Republican, and The Scalding Pig. In addition to food, the company offers bottled hot sauce, apparel, and coffee mugs.
Torchy’s Tacos was visited by then President Barack Obama, who had The Democrat and The Republican taco. The company is considering opening a location in Washington, D.C. Headquarters are located in Austin, Texas.
