Stitch Fix, originally named Rack Habit, was founded in 2011 by current CEO Katrina Lake and Erin Morrison Flynn. Lake attended Stanford, where she became interested in statistics and how they were used to influence customers. While she was attending Harvard Business School, she started the idea of Stitch Fix and began working on it from her apartment. Her research told her that people didn’t always like shopping at stores but felt that they couldn’t afford a personal shopper or a styling assistant.
