Originally intended only for industrial use, the company designed a more streamlined product for homemakers. The company expanded into other home appliances in 1949, beginning with dishwashers. Today, the company produces numerous products for the kitchen, including mixers, refrigerators, freezers, electric kettles, stoves, ovens, microwaves, and their original stand-alone mixer, which now comes in a wide range of colors, including purple. 
Today, KitchenAid operates as a subsidiary of Whirlpool. Some appliances are made in the US, others in China. The metal components of the company’s mixer are made at various plants around the world but are hand finished in the US to ensure smooth operation.
Every KitchenAid mixer since the introduction of the Model “K” has allowed for cross-generational attachment compatibility, meaning that attachments from the 1930s can be used on modern mixers, and vice versa.
