Steve’s Ice Cream was founded in 1973 in Somerville, Massachusetts. Steve Herrell first altered a small batch, commercial ice cream freezer and created a creamy, low air ice cream that was unique for its time. Later, he added things such as M&M’s, fruit, or broken up Heath candy bars, another unique concept in its day. Herrell sold the business in 1977 for $80,000. While the company did franchising for a short time, problems arose when the company began selling prepacked ice cream in stores. Many franchisers either lost their business or sold it.
The company was purchased in 2009 by an original Steve’s Ice Cream employee, David Stein. Steve’s Ice Cream now has 3 locations in New York, as well as selling prepackaged ice cream at local stores.

THE Ultimate ICE CREAM EXPERIENCE
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!
Heads up on my recent find. Short of time on the other side of the border? I love Grocery Outlet. And now I love it EVEN more. Their Steve’s ice cream just ranked high up there next to Häagen-Dazs and Trader Joe’s coffee ice cream in my book.
Yes, I do like Ben and Jerry’s, but ya gotta try…..
Steve’s. Their Brooklyn Black Chocolate was as smooth as the finest silk and the flavor was a delicate milk chocolate while being dark at the same time. How do they do that?…but I defy you Dark Chocolate Lovers to not be compelled to finish it off in one fell swoop. Decadence!
Their Southern Banana Pudding was as good as the freshest bestest banana pudding taking you back nostalgically to sitting in grandma’s kitchen, and that very same pudding with its vanilla wafers is now ensconced in smooth and creamy ice-cold vanilla. My own experience is that while imbibing it, you will suddenly speak with a Southern accent, y’all. Wow! Live it up in these stressful days and put a dab of dark rum on it! Don’t hit your head floating up to the ceiling in ecstasy. From the ceiling you can look down on your very empty ice cream dish and have a delicious, delectable near death experience of the very best kind. Promise!
