Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (LP) was created in 1973 when monopoly Georgia-Pacific Corporation was broken up after a court order.

The company went on to revolutionize the industry by designing and producing alternatives to plywood and solid wood building products, which it made from small fast-growing trees instead of old-growth timber.

LP also pioneered the use of reconstituted plywood substitute- made by pressing wood wafers together- named oriented strand board (OSB).

History

Today LP produces engineered wood products, siding products, oriented strand board, molding, and cellulose insulation. Products are used in new homes as well as in remodeling and repair. The company sells to retail home center giant Home Depot and has manufacturing facilities throughout North and South America.
