Acacia Communications was founded in 2009 by Benny Mikkelsen, Christian Rasmussen, and Mehrdad Givehchi, all leaders in the field of optical networking. The company was created to develop high-speed transceivers for optical networking.

Today Acacia Communications designs, develops, manufactures, and markets intelligent subsystems for high speed fiber optic transmissions for clients that are service providers, carriers, and enterprises. The company is based in Maynard, Massachusetts but has also expanded to Hazlet, New Jersey.

Superfish Corporate Office

Superfish

Superfish was founded by Adi Pinhas and Michael Chertkof in 2006 with funding from venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson. The company was created to develop and market visual search products and its first product was WindowShopper, a browser add-on that allowed users to hover over images and be redirected to shopping websites, in 2011.

In 2014 Superfish products had more than 80 million users.

In 2015 the company faced a public outcry over a security scandal involving scans of SSL-encrypted web traffic by Superfish Visual Search software that had been pre-installed on Lenovo machines. As early as 2010, Mozilla Firefox, Apple, and Microsoft Windows users had also expressed concerns about the software.

In 2015 the team behind Superfish moved over to JustVisual, closing Superfish for good.

The company was founded in 2010 by brothers Barry and Michael Roman. Previous to founding Reliant Asset Management, the brothers created ModSpace Corporation, one of the largest financing companies for modular structures.

Quest Nutrition was founded by Ron Penna, Mike Osborn, and Tom Bilyeu, software industry veterans who grew frustrated that nutrition bars on the market were loaded with sugar. Penna’s wife Shannan, then a fitness trainer, made nutrition bars without sugar and with truly healthy ingredients.

The founders faced a huge obstacle when they could not find an industrial machine that could make the bars without sugar, which was needed to help the bars slide easily through the machine. They ended up having to reengineer the equipment, a time that the founders now describe as the “birth of the Quest spirit.”

Today the company engineers, manufactures, and markets healthy snacks made of truly nutritious and natural ingredients.
