Carowinds

Carowinds was founded in 1973 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 398-acre park was originally designed to be a resort, with a hotel, shopping, a golf course, and an NFL football stadium. The energy crisis that same year forced the park to change direction. Today, Carowinds is a highly popular amusement and water park.

The park currently offers 64 rides, including 13 roller coasters and 7 water rides. One area of the park is designed strictly for small children, named Planet Snoopy. The park generally operates late March through October but has tried to remain open during weekends or holidays through December. Low attendance during winter months has led to closures December – early March.

History

The amusement park is up for 3 awards in 2019 from USA Today, including best waterpark.

An employee who was inspecting a ride lost his hand in an accident that was being investigated by OSHA in March 2019.

Carowinds operates as a subsidiary of Cedar Fair Entertainment, who purchased the company in June of 2006. Company headquarters remain in Charlotte, North Carolina. Cedar Fair invested $50 million into renovating the park, as well as adding 4 new rides in 2016.

Alliance Family of Companies was founded in 2006 in Irving, Texas, by current CEO Justin Magnusun. The company operates a medical diagnostic testing facility and equipment center.

The company is best known for its in-home video monitored EEG system. Patients do not need to spend hours or days in a hospital, but can be monitored, at home, in real time, via a cloud based platform. Medical diagnostic tests can also be performed at a variety of medical facilites. The company currently works with more than 500 physicians in 35 states.

Farm Fresht to You was founded in 1976 in Capay Valley, California, by husband and wife team Kathy Barsotti and Martin Barnes. The pair borrowed money from their parents to purchase 20 acres for an organic farm. The company grows and sells organic produce.

The company began by selling at local farmers markets and supermarkets. The farm is best known for produce boxes that it sends via a subscription service. Clients can choose from a wide variety of boxes, including fruit only, vegetables only, a mixed box, and more. The company also offers e-cards and donation boxes. Annual tours are offered, along with bulk sales.

In addition to produce, clients can order other farm products, including eggs, organic dairy, honey, and jams. The farm is still family owned and operated. Headquarters are located in West Sacramento, California.

Maaco was founded in 1972 in Wilmington, Delaware, by Anthony Martino. Martino had previously run an AAMCO dealership and used the letters of his name, plus CO for the company, to come up with the Maaco name. The company operates a franchise of auto body and paint facilities.

More than 20 million vehicles have been serviced by Maaco since its inception. In 2010, the company had annual revenue of $60.3 million. In 2008, after Martino’s death, the family sold the company to Driven Brands. Maaco now operates as a subsidiary.

History

The company has run a series of popular television commercials with the tagline “Uh Oh. Better Get Maaco.”

Maaco currently has at least 500 locations in the US and Canada. MAACO Franchising has been cited numerous times by Entrepreneur magazine as #1 in its category in its Annual Franchise 500 survey.

In 2013 Maaco acquired 1 Day Paint and Body Centers, headquartered in Torrance, California.

The company received bad press after one customer posted a scathing review on Facebook. An employee at the location called the woman’s husband and left a voicemail in which he told her husband to “get your wife under control” and threatened to “do something about it” if the review was not removed. The company suspended the worker, offered to refund the customer’s money, repaint her vehicle, and closed the location temporarily so that employees could undergo “customer care” training.

In July 2021, the company paired with NASCAR in order to revamp its marketing strategy, called Watch Maaco Go!”.

In October 2022, the company celebrated 50 years of service.

Company headquarters are now located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
