Rainbow Shops was founded in 1935 in New York City by Irving Arthur Swarzman. Rainbow shops offer moderately priced women’s clothing and accessories such as handbags and shoes.

Swarzman hired all 4 of his brothers when they were old enough to work. The brothers worked to build their company from a single store to 82 locations before they sold it in the early 1980s.

Today, along with sister brands 5-7-9 and Marianne, Rainbow operates 1,300 stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Rainbow Shops are still privately owned by the Chehebar family.

Rainbow Shops did not launch a website until 2012 but it is now one of the top e-commerce businesses.

The company is now using AI (artificial intelligence) to enhance searches and enable customers to find products more easily.

As of December 31, 2020, the company owned 300 apartment communities containing 100,490 apartment units. MAA is the largest apartment owner in the United States and the 7th largest apartment Property Management Service in the United States.
