Mint Mobile is an offshoot of Ultra Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator. The company sells discount prepaid SIM cards and mobile phone service that works on T-Mobile’s network.

Ultra Mobile kicked off Mint Mobile in August of 2016. The company offers vastly reduced rates for service for customers who are willing to pay in advance of at least 3 months duration, rather than month to month.

History

Originally limited to Android phones, the company now offers service to iPhone users as well. The base rate at Mint is $15 a month for unlimited talk, text, and data, as well as 2 GB of high-speed (4 LTE) service. That is roughly half the price of the lowest competitor, MetroPCS.

In a review dated January of 2018, Forbes listed this service as a top provider which can save consumers hundreds of dollars in cell phone bills.

In 2019, actor Ryan Reynolds purchased an ownership stake in Mint Mobile.

Reynolds tweeted in April 2021 that he had plans to bring Mint Mobile to Canada but Canada says that probably will not happen.

In January 2022, the company was listed as the Most Versatile Cell Phone Plan by USNews.

In November 2023, the company offered a 6-month plan for the price of 3 months for its Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale.

Company co-headquarters are currently located in Costa Mesa, California, with an additional office in New York.

Field and Stream magazine was founded by John P. Burkhard and Henry Wellington Wack in 1895. The company writes about hunting, fishing, and offers stories by hunters, as well as survival tips.

The company acquired its largest competitor, Forest and Stream, in 1930. This popular magazine has been sold several times over the years, most recently to the Bonnier Group in 2007.

History

The magazine still has more than 1 million paid subscribers, which are becoming increasingly difficult to hold on to as print media gives way to online sources.

Bonnier Group had financial difficulties in late 2016, causing them to cut staff and lay off hundreds of workers, Field and Stream personnel included.

In 2018, Field and Stream sold off their trademark for some items to Dick’s Sporting Goods, who operates Field and Stream shops, which are unrelated to the magazine.

Company headquarters for parent company Bonnier Group are located in Winter Park, Florida.

Robert Reny opened his first store in his hometown of Damariscotta, Maine, in 1949. Business was so slow that winter that Robert took some merchandise and began selling door to door. Although this was difficult in a cold Maine winter, Reny made a great many friends, who began patronizing the store the following spring.

Robert’s son John began working for his father at 5 years of age, sweeping floors and stocking small items.

History

The company offers a bit of everything; from shoes to cleaning products, coffee cups to food.

Today, Renys has more than 500 employees and 17 locations, most of them in Maine. The company is still family owned and operated, with the third generation of Renys trying to find ways to compete with Walmart.

Headquarters are located in Newcastle, Maine.

Uncle Julio’s was originally founded under the name Rusty Taco by Russell “Rusty” Fenton in Dallas, Texas, in 1986. Rusty Taco, now going under the name of just R Taco, was later sold to open a chain of restaurants known today as Uncle Julio’s Mexican Restaurants or simply, Uncle Julio’s.

The chain expanded over the years to 17 locations, most of them in Texas. It was owned by Julio & Son’s until 2011 when it was bought by a private equity firm J. H. Whitney Capital Partners.

History

The company is known for its exotic drinks and desserts, including the “Chocolate Pinata” and the -321 Margarita, which uses liquid nitrogen and is made in front of clients at their table.

In October 2017, the chain was sold to another private equity firm, L. Catterton, who says they have plans to expand the chain on a large scale.

The company currently has 29 locations, with headquarters located in Irving, Texas. It is unknown at this time if the new owners have plans to move the corporate office.

Melissa Livingston founded Twisted Wares (AKA Missy Well Made, Inc.) in McKinney, Texas, after losing everything in the recession of 2008. She left Seattle to move in with family members. Melissa had fun creating her own tea towels and kitchen towels but she began making them in earnest to sell on Etsy to make some money.

Livingston knew she had to make something different than plain old embroidered hand towels, and after her toddler son had pulled down her kitchen towel off the oven door handle for the umpteenth time, Livingston created the “Hang Tight Towel.” This simple design uses a strip of elasticized cloth to hold the towel in place.

History

Livingston is also fond of slightly naughty sayings that she adorns her towels with. The business began to thrive. The company expanded their product line to include aprons, napkins, house banners, decorative pillows, potholders, and t-shirts.

The company’s latest internet ad features two drag queens discussing the benefits of the product.

The company headquarters remain in McKinney, Texas.
