Equinox Fitness was founded in 1991 by the Errico family. In 2008, the company brought Pure Yoga from Hong Kong to the US. Pure Yoga operates separately from Equinox Fitness. Other subsidiaries include Equinox Fitness, Soul Cycle, Pure Yoga, Blink Fitness, and the Yorkville Club.

Equinox operates as a subsidiary of Related Companies, the largest real estate development and property management company in the US. Equinox is an upscale gym with 36 locations.

History

In 2016, the company announced that it was constructing 2 luxury hotels in New York and in Los Angeles. In August 2016, the billionaire owner of Equinox, Stephen Ross, hosted a fundraiser for Donald Trump, which caused many to cancel their membership.

In March 2022, Equinox had two lawsuits filed against them for unpaid rent.

Headquarters for Equinox Fitness are still located in New York, New York.

Brothers George and Andrew Anusbigian began their business by selling fruit on the sidewalks of busy intersections. After a short time, business was so good that these brothers opened their own grocery store on the outskirts of Detroit, Michigan.

Today, the company has 4 locations in the greater metropolitan Detroit area; Dearborn, Livonia, Plymouth, and Berkley. While the company’s main focus is on fruit, they have expanded to include a large selection of wine and other beverages, a full-service deli, and many specialty grocery items as well. All four Westborn locations also feature an extensive floral market.

History

The newest location in Plymouth features a full-service bistro, with seating for 20 on the inside and 70 outside on the patio.

George’s three sons now operate the markets. Headquarters are located in Oakland, Michigan.

Dun & Bradstreet can trace its history back to 1841, with the formation of The Mercantile Agency in New York City by Lewis Tappan, later renaming the business R.G. Dun & Company. By 1844 the Mercantile Agency had over 280 clients. The agency continued to expand allowing offices to open in Boston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

In 1933, Dun merged with a competitor, John M. Bradstreet, to form today’s Dun & Bradstreet.

History

In 1963, the company invented the data universal numbering system. On January 5, 2015, Dun & Bradstreet acquired the data management firm NetProspex.

In 2018, the company was acquired by an investor group led by CC Capital, Cannae Holdings and Thomas H. Lee Partners for $5.38 billion.

The company generates revenue through subscription-based products, business information reports, data licensing agreements, strategic partnerships and concierge service. The company’s database contains more than 300 million business records worldwide.

Headquarters are located in Short Hills, New Jersey.

Ellis Island Tea was founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 2008 by Nailah Ellis-Brown. The recipe for her sweet tea comes from her great-grandfather, Cyril Byron, who came to America in the early 1900s from Jamaica and ran a catering business in Manhattan from 1940-60. Ellis-Brown inherited the tea recipe and his entrepreneurial drive.

The company’s first retail outlet was Avalon International Breads, followed soon afterward by Westborn Markets, and Whole Foods. A huge leap came in fall 2017 when Sam’s Club began stocking it in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio stores. The next May, the Detroit product gained shelf space at all of the national chain’s nearly 600 locations.

The company was highlighted in a segment on the MSNBC Sunday morning news channel in 2018.

From brewing the tea in her mother’s basement and selling it out of coolers from the trunk of her car, nationwide sales are now booming for this black American owned business.

BASF can trace its roots back to 1865 when Friedrich Engelhorn started producing electricity and natural gas for the town of Mannheim in German-speaking Baden. BASF is the initials for Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik (Badin Anilin and Soda Factory in English). Tar was a natural by-product of the natural gas process, which Engelhorn used to make dyes. BASF was created for the production of chemicals needed to create the dyes.

On 28 July 1948, an explosion occurred at a BASF site in Ludwigshafen, killing 207 people and injuring 3818. In the 1950s, BASF added synthetics such as nylon to its product range. The company had already developed polystyrene in the 1930s and invented Styropor in 1951.

History

Today, BASF is the largest chemical producer in the world, with subsidiaries and joint ventures in at least 80 countries, and customers in more than 190 countries. Despite its size, the company receives very little attention since it stopped manufacturing and producing products with the BASF name or logo.

In July 2019, the company announced that there would be a lower profit margin for stockholders due to slowing markets from cars to crops and the impact of the U.S.-China trade war.

In November 2019, Lone Star Funds was reportedly having exclusive talks with BASF about possibly acquiring the company’s construction chemical division.
