Twitch TV Corporate Office

Twitch TV, also known as Twitch Interactive, or simply Twitch, was launched in 2006 as Justin.TV. At the time, the site was divided into several content categories but the gaming section grew incredibly fast, quickly becoming the dominating content sector.

The company decided to spin off the gaming content as Twitch TV in 2007.

In July 2023, Chess streamer Alyssazhu was streaming live on Twitch from a park when her camera was knocked over before a racist rant against one of her opponents.

In 2006, while working at the Huffington Post, current CEO and founder Joshua Peretti started BuzzFeed (originally called BuzzFeed Laboratories) as a side project. The company had no writers, only an algorithm that took popular stories and feeds from the internet and republished them.

Today, Buzzfeed is an American internet media, news, and entertainment company.

Originally, content included quizzes and listicles but has since evolved into a global media and technology company that offers coverage on a wide range of subjects including DIY, business, animals, and opinion pieces.

While Buzzfeed tends to be left-leaning, its entrance into serious journalism, a 2014 survey found that in the United States, BuzzFeed was viewed as an unreliable source by the majority of respondents, regardless of age or political affiliation.

In November 2020, Buzzfeed acquired The Huffington Post in a stock merger.

NPR Corporate Office

National Public Radio replaced the National Education Radio Network in 1971. The Public Broadcasting Act, signed into law in 1967, also created the Public Broadcasting Service for television.

NPR suffered an almost fatal setback in 1983 when efforts to expand services created a deficit of nearly $7 million (equivalent to $19 million in 2022 dollars).

After a Congressional investigation and the resignation of NPR’s then-president Frank Mankiewicz, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting agreed to lend the network money in order to stave off bankruptcy. 

NPR is an American privately and publicly funded nonprofit media organization. The company produces and distributes news stories and cultural events, as well as serving as a national syndicator to more than 1,000 public radio stations.

NPR also has a mobile phone app where clients can view current news stories.

In December 2018, The Washington Post reported that between 20 and 22 percent of NPR staff was classified as temporary, while this compares to about five percent of a typical for-profit television station.

Some of the temporary staff members told the newspaper the system was “exploitative”, but NPR’s president of operations said the current system was in place because the station is a “media company that strives to be innovative and nimble.”

In February 2023, NPR announced that it would lay off about 100 employees due to decreased revenue.

However, in 1994, the company decided to place all children’s shows under one channel. On July 11, 1994, PBS repackaged their existing children’s educational programming as a new block called “PTV”, airing on 11 member stations at launch.

On September 6, 1999, PBS launched the 24-hour PBS Kids television network.[12] The separate PBS Kids Network was available on high-tier subscription providers and was also offered to PBS member stations for use on a “cablecast” service or for use on the member station’s free-to-air analog channel to provide a portion of the daytime PBS Kids programming on the station.

Participating stations were required to pay an annual fee of $1,000 to use the feed. 

The company received a $961,000 grant to start a Super Why Reading Camp in Arizona in May 2022.

The public television station’s PBS Kids SUPER WHY Camp is an early literacy, evidence-based pre-kindergarten summer school transition program for 4- and 5-year-old students with little or no preschool experience in targeted low-income communities.

The popular kids show Arthur is slated to be scrapped at the end of 2022 after running for 25 seasons.
