Los Angeles Zoo Corporate Office

The Los Angeles Zoo was founded in 1912, initially as the Griffith Park Zoo. The original zoo site is still there, although it is not much more than remnants now, after being closed in 1966. The Los Angeles Zoo opened the same year, about 2 miles from the old zoo.

The zoo is located on 133 acres of land. The city of Los Angeles owns the entire zoo. A botanical garden was introduced in 2001. The zoo is perhaps best known for its successful California Condor program, which started with 22 condors, and today has more than 430. There are 7 attractions in the zoo, including the Red Ape Rain Forest, Campo Gorilla Reserve, and Elephants of Asia.

During the teacher’s strike in March 2023, the zoo allowed students to visit the zoo at no charge.

The Los Angeles Zoo has also had quite a few escape artists over the years, including Evelyn the gorilla, who escaped from her enclosure 5 times, and Virginia the wolf, who escaped and lived for several months in nearby Griffith Park.

The Los Angeles Zoo maintains a corporate office in Los Angeles, California.

San Diego Zoo Corporate Office

The San Diego Zoo was founded in 1916 in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. After numerous wild animals were abandoned at the 1915 Panama California Exposition, the Zoological Society of San Diego took charge of the animals.

In 1921, a permanent part of Balboa Park was set aside for the zoo. The City of San Diego and the Zoological Society made an agreement that the city would own the land, but the zoo would be operated by the Zoological Society.

Today, the San Diego Zoo has almost 4,000 animals and 650 species. The park sits on 100 acres and operates as a non-profit organization. The Zoological Association is one of the largest in the world, with nearly 500,000 members. The zoo is very active in breeding endangered animals, including the panda.

The zoo has had more than a few escape artists, however, including a koala named Mundu who hopped to a neighboring tree outside the park, two striped hyenas who escaped inside the park, and an orangutan named Hairy Houdini by the public, who escaped several times during his lifetime.

In late July 2023, the zoo announced the birth of two Sumatran tiger cubs, just in time for Global Tiger Day, which is July 29th.

Also in July 2023, the zoo announced they had 4 Capybara pups born a few days earlier.

Lagoon Park Corporate Office

Lagoon Park was founded in 1886 in Farmington, Utah, originally as a resort called Lake Park. Privately owned, the park boasts 10 roller coasters, 3 of which are entirely unique.

The park ran into disrepair and was closed for at least 3 years during WWII. It was on the verge of being completely destroyed when the Freed family decided to overhaul and restore the park. The Freed family still own and operate this amusement park. The company has tried to install a new ride every year, but economic problems made this impossible in 2010.

Today, Lagoon Park has 10 roller coasters, and 53 rides total. This park is one of the very few in the US which allows food and drinks to be brought inside the park. This is due to the longstanding tradition of picnic’s by the lake. The park also offers full service RV parking and a campground.

Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Corporate Office

Dorney Park goes back as far as 1860. Long before it became an amusement park, it belonged to Solomon Dorney, who had a fish hatchery and summer resort. Dorney decided that a public attraction would be more profitable than raising fish, so in 1870 he converted his estate into a public area, which featured a hotel, restaurant, games, and playground type rides. By the early 1880’s, Dorney added mechanical rides, which was the official start of Dorney Park as an amusement park.

Today, Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, which is owned by Cedar Fair, boasts 8 roller coasters, 18 water rides, with a total of 59 rides, including Steel Force, the 9th longest roller coaster in the world, and the second longest on the East coast.

The company introduced a new type of wristband called Fast Pay, which allows park goers to preload their wrist band with money, therefore eliminating the need to carry cash. Wristbands are scanned and the money deducted from the person’s account. This program, which started in 2013, has been very successful.
