Valu Home Center Corporate Office

Valu Home Center was founded in 1968 in Buffalo, New York. The company operates a chain of hardware and home improvement stores for the do-it-yourselfers.

The company has annual revenue of over $100 million and employ more than 1,000 full time employees. Currently, there are 41 locations in the states of New York and Pennsylvania. There is a wide range of products in each location, everything from automotive parts to farming implements, gardening to home improvement products.

Each year, the company raises money for the “Make a Change” program, which helps young people who are addicted to alcohol or drugs go through rehabilitation and find jobs.  Company headquarters are now located in what was once the only company store in Buffalo, New York.

Lehman’s Corporate Office

Lehman’s Hardware and Appliances, today, simply called Lehman’s, was founded in 1955 by Jay Lehman. His idea was to sell non-electrical and other types of old fashioned tools and hardware to the Amish community in Ohio. Business was nothing more than average until the oil embargo of 1973, when everyone began looking for ways to beat the energy crisis.

Today, Lehman’s specializes in tools and survival gear for environmentalists, survival buffs, Preppers, and those who prefer “off the grid” living. The Amish community used to make up 95% of company sales, today, they account for only about 5% of annual revenue. The company remodeled the store front, using Amish workers, to restore it to its original 1955 facade, although the store has doubled in size over the past decade.

The store is a popular tourist attraction as well, with many people believing that it is a type of museum, when in fact, every item in the store is for sale and is fully functional.

Atwoods Ranch and Home Corporate Office

Atwoods Ranch and Home was founded in Enid, Oklahoma, by Wilbur and Fern Atwood in the early part of 1960. The couple wanted to provide rural customers with quality tools and items for both the farm and home.

Today, Atwoods Ranch and Home have 58 locations in 5 states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas. The company remains family owned and operated. In addition to the 58 locations, the company operates three large warehouse distribution centers, two in Enid, Oklahoma, and the other in Tyler, Texas. One distribution center in Enid is a former Walmart location. While the company has considered moving into one larger warehouse, at the moment, plans are to remain in Enid.

The company is known for maintaining a local, low-key, down home type atmosphere, including free popcorn, despite expansion plans.

In April 2021, country music star Trisha Yearwood announced that she was starting a new line of pet products, which would be sold at Atwoods Ranch and Home.

Orscheln Farm and Home Supply was founded in 1960 by W.C. Orscheln in Sedelia, Missouri. Although the Orscheln brothers had been in the trucking and farming equipment business since at least the 1930’s, the company’s focus moved to supplying rural American families and small-time farmers with the supplies they needed.

The company operates a chain of home improvement, farm supplies, and hunting supplies. The distribution center and headquarters are located in Moberly, Missouri. The recent acquisition of a warehouse/distribution center in Abilene, Kansas, is meant to supply locations that are under construction or are about to open.

Orscheln Farm and Home Supply currently has 175 locations in 9 states. The company operates as a subsidiary of the Orscheln Group.

In August 2020, the company opened a new location in Lexington, Kentucky. 

In October 2022, Tractor Supply Company acquired Orscheln Farm and Home for $238 million. It is unknown if Tractor Supply will rebrand Orscheln Farm and Home.

The company maintains a corporate office in Moberly, Missouri.

Today, True Value is still a cooperative of hardware stores and has more than 5,000 participating members. The company focuses on home improvement products, tools, and general hardware items such as screws, nails, lumber, and locks. This co-op supports its vast network of retailers through 12 regional warehouses and more than 3,000 associates.

The company also uses other names as a part of their co-op including Party Central, Grand Rental Station, Taylor Rental, Induserve Supply, and their largest, Home and Garden Showplace.
