C&S Wholesale Grocers was founded in 1918 in Worcester, Massachusets, by Israel Cohen and Abraham Siegel. The company began as a small grocery distribution center and warehouse in a three story building. The original location on Winter Street was ruined in a flood in 1929, forcing the company to relocate. The new location was larger, however, which proved beneficial as the company grew substantially in the following 10 years.

After C&S began serving the large supermarket chain Big D starting in 1958, the company grew even larger. Today, C&S Wholesale Grocers has 50 distribution centers in 15 states. The company had annual revenue in 2013 of $21.7 billion and employs more than 14,000 people.

Claim Jumper was founded in 1977 by Craig Nickoloff in Los Alamitos, California. The restaurant has an extensive menu list, is well-known for huge portions, and all locations have an 1849 gold rush theme. Many locations have a small gold mining track running through the restaurant.

Today, the company has more than 40 locations in 9 states. Claim Jumper filed for bankruptcy in 2010 and was purchased by Landry’s Inc. in late 2010 for $76.6 million. The company moved their corporate office location from Houston, Texas, to Irvine, California after the sale.

HersheyPark Corporate Office

Hersheypark, originally spelled Hershey Park until about 1970, was founded in May of 1906 by Milton Hershey as a place for Hershey factory workers to enjoy the outdoors. Its first summer in operation, the park had Memorial Day celebrations, bands, baseball games, and other events. The very first ride was introduced in 1908; a Merry Go Round. In 1910, the park added a miniature railroad, and in 1923, the park added its first roller coaster, The WildCat.

Today, the park has more than 75 rides, 13 roller coasters, and 16 water rides. Hersheypark receives approximately 3.2 million visitors each year. The park is open Easter weekend through September, Halloween, and Christmas day.

The theme park recently came under fire in July 2019, after an attempted child abduction at the park was discounted by employees, who were reluctant to call security and security refused to contact local police.

The park is privately owned by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company. Hersheypark opened their newest attraction in 2007, Boardwalk, which features water rides such as Canyon River Rapids and Tidal Force.

Today, the company has 3,300 employees and annual revenue in 2014 of $1.274 million. Fairpoint Communications is still struggling with striking workers since October of 2014. The company hired replacement workers, who have had trouble maintaining service lines during severe winter storms.

The restaurant chain offers typical American cuisine such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, salads, soups, alcoholic drinks, and sandwiches. Each restaurant has an island or beach theme. In addition, the restaurant offers a gluten free menu.

Cheeseburger in Paradise was purchased in December of 2012 by Luby’s restaurant group for $11 million. Jimmy Buffet received 2% for his end to the chain and the removal of his association with the restaurant. Luby’s closed several locations soon after the sale. Cheeseburger in Paradise still has 6 locations in 6 states.
