In 1990 the Seaman family opened the first Rooms To Go in Orlando, Florida.

Rooms To Go markets package deals to brand-conscious, time-pressed customers. The company offers low-to-medium priced furniture and accessories with discounts going to those willing to buy a roomful at a time.

Cindy Crawford has been a spokesperson for the company for the past 10 years, as well as Sofia Vergara, who has been partnered with the company since 2013. room 5

In 2016, the company began offering collections by Eric Church, called “Highway to Home.”

In February 2020, the company issued a recall for its Patmo Lawn Chairs, after it was revealed that the paint on the metal portion of the chairs has more lead in the paint than allowed by law.

In November 2020, the company purchased a former Toys R Us building in Jacksonville, Florida, for $10 million. 

As of 2016, the company has 132 locations, approximately 7,000 employees, and annual revenue in the same year of $2.2 billion. Headquarters are located in Seffner, Florida.

In 2010 Lifetime Products acquired Dragonfly Innovation Corp, a producer of blow-molded kayaks. The kayaks are popular because they are designed not to flip over.

Today the company has the largest single-point blow molded plastics facility in North America. The company’s products are available in more than 70 countries worldwide. In the United States products are available in Sports Authority, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Modell’s, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Costco, BJ’s, Home Depot, Lowe’s and more.

Pier One filed for bankruptcy earlier in February and is trying to find a buyer or consolidate their debt.

In April 2020, the company received an offer to purchase the corporation, but it would need to close nearly 800 locations. It is unknown at this time if the company has accepted the offer. 

Pier One maintains their corporate office in Fort Worth, Texas.

Founded by Carlyle Weinberger in Chicago in 1945, the company’s specialty was wooden furniture made by local companies, which was resold to larger furniture stores.

In 1970 Ashley invested in Arcadia Furniture, a Wisconsin-based furniture manufacturer founded and operated by Ronald Wanek.

By the late 1990’s the company was operating assembly and distribution plants in Washington, California, New Jersey, and Florida.

In 2016, annual company revenue reached $3.85 billion.

La-Z-Boy Corporate Office

La-Z-Boy was founded by in 1928 cousins Edward M. Knabusch and Edwin J. Shoemaker when they partnered in and invested in a furniture business in Monroe, Michigan.

They set out to design a chair that was “nature’s way of relaxing,” which resulted in them making a reclining wood-slat porch chair and upholstering it. The chair was a huge success.

The company primarily manufactured recliners until 1969, when it branched out to include sofas, sleep sofas, and modular groups.

In 1983 La-Z-Boy began offering a full line of home furnishings.

Today La-Z-Boy is a publicly traded company, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol LZB.  La-Z-Boy sells its products through 220 independent La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries and 550 Comfort Studios.

In 2016, Forbes listed the company as one of America’s Most Trusted Companies. They also made the list in 2012 and 2013.

Darrell Edwards, longtime COO for La Z Boy retired in March 2022. He was replaced by Mike Leggett. 

The company announced a 22 percent increase in sales during the first quarter of 2022. 

La-Z-Boy is part of the S&P 600, has 9,500 full-time employees, and had  $1.70 billion in revenue in 2020.
