Fry’s Food Stores, also known as Fry’s Food and Drugs, was founded in 1954 in California by Donald Fry. The company operates a chain of supermarkets, mostly in the state of Arizona.
Today, Fry’s Food Stores is a subsidiary of Kroger. The company also goes by other names such as Fry’s Marketplace, Fry’s Signature, and Fry’s Mercado. In June of 2000, the company acquired Fred Meyer‘s stores in Arizona and re-branded those stores as Fry’s Food and Drug.
The company offers upscale grocery items in most locations. Fry’s Mercado caters to the Hispanic community. The company currently has 123 locations and employs at least 22,000 people.
