Car-X Tire and Auto Corporate Office

Car-X was founded in 1971 by a group of muffler shop owners who wanted to do more with their businesses. No longer a muffler and exhaust repair location, Car-X does almost every type of auto repair you can think of- from head gasket replacement to brakes.

There are currently 160 franchised locations in 5 states.

In 2015, Monro Muffler purchased the Car-X trade name and franchise rights to 146 locations in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Texas. 

Monro began expanding the Car-X name by adding additional locations.

In February 2023, Car-X was named in a lawsuit stating that the company harassed and discriminated against female employees.

Car-X has expanded its presence in Iowa by adding 8 new locations in the state in the past few years.

Taco Bueno Corporate Office

Taco Bueno was founded in 1967. The first location opened in Abilene, Texas.

Taco Management LLC, doing business as Taco Bueno, offers Tex-Mex-style fast food with 142 locations in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.

The company has been bought and sold several times over the years, and for a short time ( 5 years) it was even owned by Carl’s Jr. However, in November 2018, the company filed for bankruptcy. It was then purchased by Sun Holdings, which also owns other franchises. An affiliate of Sun Holdings, Taco Supreme, assumed Taco Bueno’s outstanding debts and put $10 million into revitalizing the company.

In August 2022, Taco Bueno brought back a customer favorite, the Brisket Taco.

Also in August 2022, the company began expanding once more with new locations opening in Texas.

Founded in 1979, Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers began franchising in 1984.

 The company is an American-based automotive maintenance provider, with services including its signature 10-minute oil change, along with full-service mechanical, tires, brakes, and other general service offerings.

As of 2022, the company has 322 locations in 19 states with 264 locations being corporate-owned and the remainder being franchised.

In 2017, the company was the 10th largest fast oil change company in the United States. In early 2017, Express Oil Change acquired Mavis Discount Tire for an undisclosed amount.

While the company has mainly expanded via acquisitions, it is still opening new locations in Louisiana and Georgia.

In August 2022, Express Oil Change updated its mobile website to make it more user-friendly.

Mr. Puffs was founded in 2004 in Montreal, Canada, by Billy Siounis. The company offers a dessert bar, serving puffs with various toppings, ice cream, coffee, and coffee drinks.

Puffs are similar to donut holes, made with simple ingredients such as flour, water, and cinnamon. Vegan-based puffs are also available.

Franchising began in 2006. Starting with a single location, Mr. Puffs now has more than 20 international locations, with the newest store opening in Florida.

Mr. Puffs has continued to expand across Canada and the USA, despite the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, Uber Eats announced that its most ordered food in Quebec was Mr. Puffs.

Apparently, not everyone is a fan of Mr. Puffs. In February 2018, someone tried to set fire to a Mr. Puffs location in Canada. Luckily, the store was closed and there were no injuries.

Batteries Plus, formerly called Batteries Plus Bulbs, was founded in 1988 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The company operates a franchise that sells and recycles all types of batteries and light bulbs, including watch batteries, cell phones, cameras, cars, toys, and more.

The stores also stock and/or customize out-of-production batteries for obsolete appliances and antique cars.

The company rebranded to Batteries Plus Bulbs in 2012 to reflect the decision of the company to also sell light bulbs but it has since returned to its original name of Batteries Plus.

In November 2007, Roark Capital Group acquired the company and in turn, sold it to Freeman Spogli in 2016.

In July 2014, the company began offering cell phone and tablet repair services.

In July 2022, Batteries Plus announced that it had reached record expansion levels in the past year and that it planned to open at least 60 new locations in the following 12 months.
