Meineke Car Care was founded by Sam Meineke in Houston, Texas., in 1972 The original name of the company was Meineke Discount Mufflers. Franchising operations began the following year. The name was changed in 2003.

The company operates a chain of franchised automotive maintenance and repair shops. The parent company, Meineke Holdings, became Driven Brands, Inc. in 2006 and acquired Econo Lube N Tune.

The company also acquired Walt’s Auto Care Center in 2013 and America’s Service Station the following year.

One Meineke franchisor in Delaware offered free oil changes to Veterans in 2019 and gave away more than 260 free oil changes.

Shakey’s Pizza was founded in Sacramento, California, in 1954 by Sherwood “Shakey” Johnson and Ed Plummer. Johnson used to play dixieland jazz piano in the restaurant most nights. The company began franchising in 1989 and grew rapidly. By 1996, the company had reached annual revenues of $15 million. Today, the company has 88 locations in 7 western states. Ashland Global Holdings acquired the company in December of 2015

Oil Can Henry’s has no waiting rooms, unlike other automotive repair shops, but rather, allows customers to sit in their vehicle and watch the mechanics at work via cameras that are strategically placed around the vehicle. Employees are known for their bow-ties and newspaper boy type hats.

Ben & Jerry’s Corporate Office

Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream, known to everyone as simply Ben & Jerry’s, was founded in Burlington, Vermont, in 1978 by two college dropouts, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. The pair took a $5 correspondence course on how to make ice cream, took their life savings and along with some borrowed money, opened their first ice cream store in a renovated gas station.

Today, Ben & Jerry’s is one of the largest producers of ice cream in the world. The company was sold to Unilever in 2000. Ben & Jerry’s is perhaps best known for its unusual ice cream flavors, chunky ice creams, and unusual ice cream names, such as Cherry Garcia, Chubby Hubby, and Apple-y Ever After.

The company sells ice cream, frozen yogurt, and frozen ice cream desserts in more than 36 countries in stores, supermarkets, and franchise outlets. To celebrate the company anniversary, the company has a “free cone day” at all locations somewhere between late March and early April every year.

Ben and Jerry’s has long been involved in social and political issues. In May 2017, the company announced that they would not serve two scoops of the same flavor until Australia legalized gay marriage.
