Pie Five Pizza was founded in 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas, originally as Pizza Inn. The company operates a chain of fast-food pizza restaurants. The focus of the company is that they can make a personal-sized pizza in 5 minutes.

The company began franchising operation in 2013. Currently, there are 98 locations in 19 states. Owners state that they have 400 franchises in various stages of completion. The company pulled all but 2 locations in Illinois, closing 8 or the 9 location in Chicago due to heavy competition. In 2015 alone the company opened 50 locations.

The company is owned by the RAVE restaurant group and operates as a subsidiary. The new CEO, Scott Crane, recently left Smashburger to operate the pizza chain and hopes to increase sales.

The company announced the opening of their first franchise in the state of Oregon in July 2019.

Pie Five Pizza offers four different crusts, including classic pan, crispy thin, gluten-free, and traditional Italian. In addition to pizza, the company offers salads and desserts, as well as beer in most locations.

The original location was closed in the mid-1990’s, but reopened in Whitewater, Illinois. Gittrich originally worked for Dominoes Pizza before deciding to start his own business.

The company has approximately 70 locations in 13 mainly midwestern states. The company focuses on college campus areas and is known for being open until 3AM, to catch late night business. Toppers Pizza offers the usual pizzas, flavored breadsticks and chicken wings.

Toppers Pizza has doubled in size in the past 3 years, with 73% of its locations reporting record breaking sales in 2015. The company claims that there are more than 1 million pizza combinations that customers can create. The company has earned numerous awards, including one in 2015 from Franchise Business Review, which listed the company in their special report of the Top 50 Multi-Unit Franchises.

In January 2021, the company introduced vegan TopperStix to compliment the company’s other vegan menu items.

California Tortilla, known to most as simply CalTort, was founded in 1995 in Bethesda, Maryland, by Pam Felix and Alan Cohen. The company operates a chain of mainly franchised Tex-Mex-style casual restaurants.

The company currently has 38 locations in 7 states, interestingly enough, none of which are in California, as well as several in Qatar. The company is perhaps best known for its employees, who are encouraged to be fun and “unique”. This makes each visit and each location, different from the others. Cofounder Pam Felix published a monthly newsletter, both online and in print, entitled Taco Talk. Felix retired the publication in 2015.

California Tortilla offers the typical burritos, tostadas, and tacos. The company offers numerous promotions to make themselves stand out from the crowd, including Monday Night Mystery Prize, where patrons who order a burrito get to spin a wheel and win a prize, such as a free cookie or $1 off coupon.

Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee was founded in 2005 by current CEO Jonathan Golden. After a trip to Rwanda, Golden realized that the people there had incredibly good coffee, but were forced to accept very little money for their product due to infighting and a lack of distribution.

The company operates coffee shops, as well as selling coffee online, from the coffee farmers of Rwanda. Farmers are paid a living wage for their product and the Rwandan community benefits from Community Trade. The company sells genuine Arabic coffee and other items, including T-shirts, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, and coffee makers via their eCommerce site, as well as at their coffee houses.
