Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream, known to everyone as simply Ben & Jerry’s, was founded in Burlington, Vermont, in 1978 by two college dropouts, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. The pair took a $5 correspondence course on how to make ice cream, took their life savings and along with some borrowed money, opened their first ice cream store in a renovated gas station.

Today, Ben & Jerry’s is one of the largest producers of ice cream in the world. The company was sold to Unilever in 2000. Ben & Jerry’s is perhaps best known for its unusual ice cream flavors, chunky ice creams, and unusual ice cream names, such as Cherry Garcia, Chubby Hubby, and Apple-y Ever After.

The company sells ice cream, frozen yogurt, and frozen ice cream desserts in more than 36 countries in stores, supermarkets, and franchise outlets. To celebrate the company anniversary, the company has a “free cone day” at all locations somewhere between late March and early April every year.

Ben and Jerry’s has long been involved in social and political issues. In May 2017, the company announced that they would not serve two scoops of the same flavor until Australia legalized gay marriage.

In October 2018, Ben and Jerry’s introduced Pecan Resist, aimed at protesting Trump’s “regressive and discriminatory policies.”

In July 2021, the company made a public statement saying that they would no longer sell ice cream in occupied Palestinian territories but that they would sell in other areas of Israel.

Eat24 was founded in San Bruno, California, in 2008. The company is a restaurant food delivery service for more than 30,000 restaurants in 1,500 Amerian cities. The company operates as a subsidiary of Yelp, Inc., who purchased the company in early 2015 for $134 million.

The company operates through a mobile phone app or their online service. There is stiff competition among delivery companies, so Eat24 relies on Yelp feedback and reviews, a cash back program for future orders, as well as a VIP club, which also offers discounts and coupons. Unlike some companies, who tack on a service fee for delivery, this service is free, with the participating restaurant picking up the delivery fee.

Eat24’s mobile app remembers last orders for convenience, so clients can simply hit the “repeat last order” button for time saving and ease of use. Eat24 has quickly become one of the fastest growing delivery services around, adding 10,000 new restaurants in just the past year.

Whitey’s Ice Cream Corporate Office

Whitey’s Ice Cream was founded in 1933 by Chester Lindgren, who was nicknamed Whitey because of his white blonde hair. Business was doing so well that Lindgren hired Bob Tunberg in 1935 as help. In 1953, Lindgren sold the business to Tunberg, who decided to keep the name of the business unchanged.

What began as a single store in Moline, Illinois, has become one of the most famous ice cream brands in the Illinois/Iowa Quad-City area. Tunberg’s son’s still own the business. There are currently 9 locations, as well as a wholesale department, which packages the ice cream to be sold at sporting events and in stores.

The company also has an active eCommerce site where ice cream can be ordered and shipped anywhere in the continental US. Whitey’s Ice Cream has won numerous awards, including Best in the Midwest by Midwest Living Magazine and The Passion Award, given by Ice Cream University.
