Nicha’s Mexican Restaurant Corporate Office

Gene and Dionisia (“Nicha”) Garcia opened a small restaurant in 1977 in San Antonio, Texas. Serving classic Mexican food, the restaurant became so popular that the building had to be expanded three times. All 6 of the Garcia children grew up working at the restaurant.

In 2003, two of the sons of Gene and Nicha purchased the building outright. Since that time, the restaurant has opened three locations throughout the general San Antonio area.

In April 2021, the company announced that it was spending $4 million to build a new restaurant that would replace the original one located on the Southside of San Antonio. The new location sits on 3-acres and will include more parking spaces and a drive-though.

During the pandemic of 2020, Nicha’s Mexican Restaurant offered basic food staples so people could do a bit of grocery shopping while they picked up their meal orders.

Western Sizzlin Buffet

In 1961-1962, Nicholas Pascarella was traveling the US in search of cheap land on which to build a restaurant. His car had a flat tire in Augusta, Georgia. The employees at the tire repair shop convinced Pascarella that he should purchase land there to build his restaurant.

The first Western Sizzlin Buffet restaurant opened in Agusta, Georgia, in February 1962. Today, the company has about 46 franchises in 13 states and is best known for its unique steaks.

Pascarella believed that “If searing the bottom of the steak made it juicy, adding flames to the top would make them twice as good.” This lead to the company’s renowned searing process trademarked as the FlameKist steak.

Due to the coronavirus, some franchisees were forced to close permanently in 2020.

The company operates as a subsidiary of Biglari Holdings, which is owned by the current CEO Sardar Biglari. Biglari Holdings also owns the Steak N Shake restaurant chain.

King Soopers was founded in 1947. How the company got the slightly strange name is thanks to an Archie comic book.

King Sooper was the first grocery store chain to have in-house pharmacies. The company has 118 locations, with many of these located in Colorado.

The company was acquired by Dillions in 1957 and Dillions was acquired by Kroger in 1983. King Soopers still operates as a subsidiary of Kroger.

In July 2020, 50 assistant managers sued the company for overtime pay.

In March 2021, a lone gunman shot and killed 10 people at a Boulder, Colorado, King Soopers. The motive of the gunman is not yet known.

When comparing market shares, King Soopers far outweighs all other supermarkets in the state of Colorado, taking nearly 35 percent of the market.

ButcherBox was founded in 2016. The company offers delivery of  100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef, free-range organic chicken, heritage-breed pork, wild-caught Alaskan salmon, and wild-caught sea scallops.  

Customers can custom order boxes with only one type of meat, or a selection of different types of meats. A subscription service is also available where boxes can be purchased on a monthly basis and shipped directly to a client’s home or a single box can be purchased at one time.

In November 2020, the company founder, Mike Salguero, was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.

The company is receiving rave reviews from well-known sites and companies, such as Yahoo and HealthLine.

While the produce may be misshapen or smaller than is considered normal, it must still be fresh, tasty, and nutritious.

Since its inception, the company has expanded products to include grains, dairy, eggs, and even canned goods.

Imperfect Foods has pledged to become a Net Zero business by 2030.
