Giovanni Marcolin had an idea in 1961; gold plated eyewear. By 1967, Marcolin had opened his own factory to produce their own brand of eyewear and the following year, Marcolin began exporting to the US.

Tody, Marcolin is the #2 eyewear manufacturer in the world. The company manufactures eyewear for multiple companies, with the latest agreement in June 2019, with Adidas. Also in June 2019, Marcolin renewed their contract with Harley Davidson to continue to produce their eyewear products.

In July 2018, the company was waiting for approval from the FDA to produce a low-concentrated formula of loteprednol ophthalmic corticosteroid which can be used for the treatment of post-operative inflammation and pain following ocular surgery. The product is expected to be approved sometime in 2019.

Movement Watches, known by their abbreviation of MVMT, was founded in 2013 by two friends, Kramer LaPlante and Jake Kassan, who dropped out of college. This pair of friends felt that college had nothing relevant to teach them. After raising $300,000 in Indegogo start-up funds, the pair began designing and producing their own brand of watches.

MVMT, which achieved revenue of approximately $71 million in 2017, currently has expanded into more than 160 countries via a direct-to-customers business philosophy, selling predominantly through its e-commerce site. By cutting out the middleman and selling directly to consumers online, the pair has managed to sell more than 600,000 watches in 3 years time.

Originally founded as 19dollareyeglasses.com in 2003 by Julia Zhen and Tibor Laczay in a San Francisco, California, garage. When the company started, it seemed impossible to sell prescription eyewear and sunglasses online. Today, with annual revenue of approximately $3 million and more than 4 million pairs sold in 2017 alone. the idea seems to be a profitable one.

The company offers frames for eyeglasses and sunglasses, starting as low as $6.95. Company software allows clients to upload a picture of their face and choose a pair of glasses that suits the shape of their face.

Zenni Optical offers more than 2,500 frames and styles available to choose from, offering a unique look for every customer. Zenni also offers single vision, bifocal, progressive and workplace progressive lens options, and is a leading-edge developer of Beyond UV Blue Light Blocking lenses, which provide all-day protection, both indoors and out, from the harmful effects of high-energy visible (HEV) blue light and UV rays.

Smith Optics Corporate Office

Smith Optics was founded by Dr. Bob Smith, a skiing enthusiast who was frustrated when his goggles would fog up on the slopes. He invented a double lens with a breathable vent foam sealed glasses that allowed for better viewing and less fogging up.

Today, Smith Optics offers not only skiing eyewear, but sunglasses for men and women, prescription sunglasses, motorcycle eyewear, performance and style eyewear, ballistic military eyewear, ophthalmic eyewear, and snow helmets. Products are sold online and through stores and ski shops. Bob Smith passed away in 2012.
