Bemis Company Corporate Office

Bemis Company is a manufacturer of packaging products, mostly for the food industry.

The company was founded by Judson Moss Bemis in 1858 in Missouri as a manufacturer of printed cotton bags that were used for food products. At this time, bags were traditionally hand-sewn and designs were stenciled on. Bemis pioneered the machine sewing and printing of his bags, which he guaranteed were as good as the hand-sewn bags.

The innovation gamble paid off and the company began to grow.

Today, more than 150 years after its founding, Bemis produces an extensive array of flexible packaging materials including barrier laminates, paper-bag packaging used by the food industry, and polymer films.

In addition to the products it sells to the food industry, the company has clients in the agricultural, chemical, medical, personal care, and printing industries. Bemis has sales offices throughout the world to serve its 30,000 customers.

Bemis Company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BMS, is a member of the S&P 500, is #492 in the Fortune 500, has 19,106 employees, and had $4.93 billion in revenue in 2013.
