Spirit Airlines Corporate Office

The company was founded as Clipper Trucking Company in 1964. The company expanded to have airline service when it opened Charter One in 1992, a Detroit-based charter tour service operator that offered travel package to destinations such as Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas.

In 1992 Charter One brought jet equipment into its fleet and changed its name to Spirit Airlines.

From 1993 to 1998 Spirit expanded to have routes to Florida, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Los Angeles, and New York.

In 2007 Spirit rebranded to become a ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC), charging for checked bags and drinks.

Today Spirit trades publicly on the NASDAQ under the symbol SAVE and serves 50 destinations with 40 aircraft. Spirit has 3,619 employees and had $1.65 billion in revenue in 2013.

Six Flags Corporate Office

Six Flags was founded in 1959 by Angus G. Wynne as The Great Southwest Corporation.

The first theme park was called “Six Flags Over Texas” for the flags of Texas, Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, and the United States. The park was, and still is, split into separate sections such as the Spain and Mexico section.

The original park was sold in 1966 to a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Railroad. When the Railroad merged with the New York Central Railroad, the new company began to expand the amusement park chain with two new parks: Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags Over Mid-America.

The company began to grow by acquiring independent parks.

Six Flags Theme Parks was acquired by Premier Parks in 1998 for $1.86 billion.

Today Six Flags Entertainment Corp draws 25 million visitors each year to its 20 parks in North America. Six Flags trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SIX. The company has 1,900 employees and had $1.1 billion in revenue in 2013.

About.com was founded in 1997 by Scott Kurnit as the Mining Company. The original goal of the company was to have a site that covered 1,800 topic areas, but after five years of operation the number was reduced to 700.

In 1999, during the internet bubble, the company changed its name to About.com.

Primedia bought the company in 2000 for $690 million.

In 2005 the company was sold again, this time to the New York Times Company.

In 2007 About.com acquired ConsumerSearch for $33 million.

In 2008 About.com expanded to China with Abang.com.

Today About.com hosts content on 78,000 topics with 3 million articles written by 900 human guides. The site currently has about 60 million visitors per month.  About.com is owned by IAC/InterActiveCorp.
