Tommie Copper Corporate Office

Thomas “Tommy” Kallish suffered a water skiing accident in 2009. Upset by how long his recovery took, Kallish began looking for support clothing that would help support his muscles and reduce pain.

Tommie Copper was founded in 2010. The company manufactures and designs a wide range of compression sleeves, stockings, and other support clothing for both men and women.

Each item is infused with copper, which some believe contains properties that reduce pain, especially for those with arthritis.

What was originally a clothing company has now expanded into other areas, including mattresses, face masks, and healing tape.

In December 2015, the company paid the FTC $1.35 million for false advertising claims that the copper infused into the company’s products could eliminate pain.

Tommie Copper sold some of the most popular face masks to protect from the coronavirus in 2020.

Symbol Mattress and Tommie Copper partnered in January 2020 to create a special mattress that had anti-bacterial and antimicrobial materials.

In 1928, brothers  Arthur and Alfred Erickson borrowed some money to open a small general store in Centuria, Wisconsin. The brothers tried to get more customers by opening earlier and closing later. Soon, they had a second store in Minnesota.

In 1939, the brothers added gas stations to their stores and gave it the official name of Holiday.

Today, the company employs approximately 8,000 people and has more than 600 locations. This number consists of employees working in stores, fresh food commissaries, distribution facilities, and offices. Holiday has been praised throughout the years by industry leaders for its low-cost, high-profit business model.

Holiday own’s two fresh food commissaries. These commissaries produce a “Holiday Pantry” line of fresh breakfast and lunch sandwiches, burritos, hot snacks, hard-boiled eggs, and muffins. The commissaries also produce the “Fresh Seasons” line of fresh fruit, vegetables, salads, pasta, cold submarine sandwiches, yogurt, and many other food items.

In January 2020, the chain was acquired by the Canadian company Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. Alimentation stated that stores would keep the name of Holiday.

During the coronavirus pandemic of 2020, Holiday Stores opted to pay employees more since they were working in what was considered an essential business.

In May 2022, several dozen drivers complained of receiving “bad” gas from different Holiday Stationstores.

Holiday maintains a corporate office in Bloomington, Minnesota.

In late December 2020, Morgan Stanley invested $150 million in the company.

They founded Universal Standard in 2015, a clothing company that is size-inclusive, offering clothing in sizes from 0 to 40.

What began as a clothing company with only 8 items of clothing has turned into a hugely popular venue. After the online site Refinery29 wrote an article about Universal Standard, the company sold out every piece of clothing in less than one week.

Veksler states that she believes their success comes from knowledge about women’s bodies and how they differ, not just how to make a popular item in larger sizes.

Pants that are made for a size 2 cannot simply be made with a larger waist and hip room, the legs need to longer and wider as well, something most clothing manufacturers do not bother to look at.

Universal Standard was listed as #5 on GoodHouseKeeping’s 2020 list of Top 12 Sites to Buy Workout Clothing.
