Nicha’s Mexican Restaurant Corporate Office

Gene and Dionisia (“Nicha”) Garcia opened a small restaurant in 1977 in San Antonio, Texas. Serving classic Mexican food, the restaurant became so popular that the building had to be expanded three times. All 6 of the Garcia children grew up working at the restaurant.

In 2003, two of the sons of Gene and Nicha purchased the building outright. Since that time, the restaurant has opened three locations throughout the general San Antonio area.

In April 2021, the company announced that it was spending $4 million to build a new restaurant that would replace the original one located on the Southside of San Antonio. The new location sits on 3-acres and will include more parking spaces and a drive-though.

During the pandemic of 2020, Nicha’s Mexican Restaurant offered basic food staples so people could do a bit of grocery shopping while they picked up their meal orders.

Greta Pittard and Tim Wright spent much of their time together enjoying cider from a variety of mills. After taking some cider-making classes and reading a variety of books, the couple decide to open their own cider making company in 2018.

The company makes and sells 8 different varieties of cider, with more recipes on the way. The building makes cider in the back and the front serves as a space for a restaurant.

The company recently hosted an event where they created a mint julip drink with an apple cider base.

Frank Stronach began making metal sun visor brackets for General Motors in 1957. From his start as a one-man operation renting a tool and die garage in Toronto has turned into an international operation with more than 169,000 employees.

The company developed an employee equity participation and profit-sharing program in 1974. By 1981, Magna had sold its aerospace and defense operations to focus on the automotive industry. It began decentralizing major systems into independent, publicly traded companies during the 1990s while expanding into Asia.

Magna began designing automotive rearview cameras for Humvees in 2005 on its production line in Detroit. It was one of the first companies to develop rearview cameras for automakers and had a 350,000 unit contract by 2007. The company has produced more than 46 million components and opened a $66.5 million plant to produce cameras and driver-assistance components.

In February 2021, the office of the governor of the state of Michigan announced that Magna plans to open a facility in the city of St. Clair to build battery enclosures for the 2022 Humvee electric pickup. The battery enclosures will be produced at GM’s facility in Detroit and Hamtramck. The new facility is expected to cost $70 million and to create over 300 jobs for the state.

In April 2021, founder Frank Stronach announced that the company was creating a 3-wheeled, one person, electric vehicle that would be able to use most bike lanes. For city traffic, Stronach believes the vehicle, called the Sarit, would be beneficial and that it will eventually change the world of cars and transportation as we know it.

The top speed for the Sarit is 20 MPH and the current price is $5,000 dollars. Stronach has not said when they expect to have the vehicle ready for sale to the public.

Noura Sakkijha grew up in a family of jewelers. Surrounded by diamonds and shiny things, Sakkijha didn’t find the sexism of the jewelry industry appealing but she realized that she did enjoy jewelry for her own pleasure.

Mejuri was founded in 2013. Sakkijha wanted to create a jewelry company for women who wanted to buy jewelry for themselves and not wait for a man to give it to her on a special occasion.

In April 2019, Mejuri raised $23 million in Series B funding.

In 2020, the company allocated $120,000 in educational scholarships for Black women and nonbinary people in Canada and the United States through its Empowerment Fund.

In September 2020, the company began offering a line of jewelry for men.
