Hulu is a joint venture between NBCUniversal Television Group (Comcast), Fox Broadcasting Company and Disney-ABC Television Group. The venture was funded in part by a $100 million equity investment by Providence Equity Partners.

The joint venture was announced in 2007 and the site went live in 2008. The company began to make a profit in 2010.

Hulu is free for users; the service and website are paid for by the advertisers on the site. Microsoft, Toyota, McDonald’s, and Target were all original advertisers in 2008 and continue to be today.
