Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company, known simply as Colonial Penn, was founded in 1968 by AARP co-founder Leonard Davis. While on vacation in South America, Davis thought of funding a life insurance program for those over the age of 65.

Today, Colonial Penn is a subsidiary of the CNO Financial Group. Based out of Philadelphia, the company is best known for its spokesperson, game show host Alex Trebek, as well as for their claims that the company will never refuse insurance to anyone, regardless of health.

Duckworth can trace its roots back to when John Helle’s grandfather purchased ranch land for his sheep in Montana for 2 cents an acre.

For many years the Helle family sold the wool from their sheep to brokers, who often mixed it with lower quality wool and sold it to the highest bidder. John Helle says he always wondered where their product ended up being used. In 2014, the family decided that they were going to start making their own products using just the Merino wool from their own sheep.

Duckworth is now a Montana source-verified wool company that uses 100% Helle Rambouillet Merino wool, processed, designed, and 100% sewn in the USA. The company makes its own products, including shirts, underwear, socks, and jackets, from its own Merino sheep and does not outsource it or mix it with lower quality wool.

This is increasingly important as wool now travels farther than ever before it meets your body. Duckworth wool fibers travel from Montana to the Carolinas (once a world powerhouse for textiles) for spinning, knitting, and sewing to strict standards.

Ooma was founded by Andrew Frame, formerly of Cisco Systems. Originally, the company used peer-to-peer technology for a VOIP phone system, which worked via the Ooma Hub and connected to other Ooma clients landline phones. This system was discontinued in 2008, with Ooma phones now strictly using the internet for phone service.

In 2008, the company released its Telo system, which consisted of a base system to access unlimited calling and caller ID. In 2009, Ooma was awarded an Internet Telephony product of the year award for its development of Ooma Telo and the Ooma Telo phone.

Today, Butterfleye is the security division of Ooma. The company offers a series of wireless streaming cameras, door and window sensors, along with audio, which recognizes sounds such as breaking glass or crying and notifies users. Athletic Propulsion Labs Shoes (APL) Corporate Office

Twin brothers Adam and Ryan Goldston began working on their business idea while they were still attending college at USC. The brothers played on both the football and basketball teams at college when they decided to design an athletic shoe that would help improve their game.

They became legends almost overnight. While designing and selling other types of athletic shoes on a small time basis, they found that the NBA had banned the use of their basketball shoe called the APL Concept 1, as it gave players an “unfair advantage.” Adam stated in one interview that the company sold more shoes in the 4 day period after the ban than they had in 6 weeks.

Currently, the company sells its products online or at selected retailers, such as Lululemon.

While the company won’t give actual sales figures or revenue numbers, they do say they are currently returning all profits back into the company for development and expansion. The Goldston’s hope to have running and other shoes ready for Olympic teams in 2020.
