GasBuddy Corporate Office

GasBuddy Logo

Childhood friends Dustin Coupal and Jason Toews founded GasBuddy in April 2000 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Originally designed as a free website where consumers could share information about gas prices and availability, the pair filed as a for-profit company in April 2004.

GasBuddy app on cell phonesThe GasBuddy app is a GPS-based program for smartphones and tablets, providing prices of nearby gas stations from user-submitted data, as well as through partnerships with other companies and directly from station operators.

While the company still operates a website where consumers report gas prices and availability, registered GasBuddy members are encouraged to input gas price data, with the incentive to earn points that allow them to obtain electronic tickets for entry towards a daily drawing for a $100 prepaid gas card. The website offers additional features such as a fuel logbook, which allows users to record fuel purchases, odometer miles, and fuel usage.gasbuddy card

In March 2013, UCG acquired GasBuddy for an undisclosed amount. Initially available only in the US and Canada, the company expanded to include Australia in 2016.

GasBuddy also noted which gas station brands tended to have the cleanest restrooms in each state, as reported by consumers in May 2019.

The app also helped those in Louisiana and Mississippi after Hurricane Ida passed through the area in 2021.

Headquarters for GasBuddy are located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Snapchat Corporate Office

In April of 2011, Reggie Brown brought the idea for a disappearing pictures application to Evan Spiegel since he had prior business experience, Brown thought he could offer advice. Brown and Spiegel then pulled in Robert (Bobby), who had experience in coding. The three worked closely together for several months and launched Snapchat as “Picaboo” on the Apple iOS operating system on July 8, 2011. Reggie Brown was ousted from the company a few months later.

snapchat on iphoneThe app was relaunched as Snapchat in September of 2011. Reggie Brown attempted to negotiate a settlement for his share of the company. Lawyers for Snapchat denied that he had anything to do with the creation of the company. In September 2014, the trio reached a settlement where Brown received $157 million and would receive credit for starting the company.

snapchat logo on cell phoneSnapchat is a mobile phone app that provides social networking via photos or “snaps.” One of the core concepts is that any picture or video or message you send – by default – is made available to the receiver for only a short time before it becomes inaccessible. This temporary nature of the app was originally designed to encourage a more natural flow of interaction.

Snapchat recently updated the app so that users can now store photos, rather than see them deleted, with unlimited viewing time.

One of the popular features is the use of stickers, geofilters, and visual effects. snapchat filter The company went public on the NYSE under the ticker symbol SNAP in March 2018. Since going public, the company has grown tremendously, forcing it to move most of its corporate offices to temporary locations in Santa Monica, California. Snapchat says they are looking for a more permanent solution.

Snapchat launched a new tool in late August 2019 to help developers create filters for changing hair and makeup styles.

In September 2019, a Jacksonville, Illinois, elementary school principal was sent a Snapchat image of what appeared to be a student with a gun at the school. The photo and incident are under investigation.

Kum and Go Corporate Office

kum and go logo

Kum and Go can trace its roots back to 1959 when William Krause and Tony Gentle founded the Hamptom Oil Company. This later became the Krause Gentle Corporation and in 1963, the company introduced their first convenience stores at their gas stations.

kum and go large coffee mugThe name Kum and Go, a play on the word “come” using the Krause and Gentle initials, was adopted in 1975 to unify all of the convenience stores under a single name. Part of the company’s franchise success was due in part to a unique marketing campaign in which they featured the Kum & Go “Gold cup”. The cup was introduced in late 2008 for the holiday season. It featured an 8oz coffee mug for $50.00 and benefitted customers by offering unlimited coffee and soda fountain refills for 2009 at any Kum & Go location.

Company headquarters moved to Des Moine, Iowa, in 1988. The company underwent tremendous expansion in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Today, there are 400 locations in 11 states. Convenience Store News listed Kum and Go as the 23rd largest convenience store chain in 2010.  kum and go gas station and sign

kum and go cap In addition to gasoline, motor oil, and other automotive supplies, the company is known for its merchandise, which features their logo, including t-shirts, mugs, and baseball caps with built-in bottle openers.

William’s grandson’s Kyle and Tanner Krause are now in charge of the daily operations for the company. Tanner Krause stated in an interview that knowing he is responsible for the livelihood of the more than 5,000 employees of the company makes him think hard before making any major decisions.

With that in mind, Tanner expanded full-time status to more than 2,000 formerly part-time employees, making them eligible for health insurance, paid time off, and maternity leave.

Company headquarters are located at the Krause Center in Des Moine, Iowa.
