Books-A-Million, sometimes called BAM!, was founded in 1917 by Clyde Anderson in Florence, Alabama. The company started as a small newspaper and magazine stand on a street corner. Soon, Anderson took his profits and purchased a bookstore in 1964, which he named Bookland. Bookland is still in business, operating today as a subsidiary of Books-A-Million.

Today, the company is the second largest bookstore chain in the U.S. With more than 250 stores, approximately 5,500 full time employees, as well as an eCommerce site, it’s difficult to not find a one of these chains in any large city in America. The company is second in size only to Barnes & Noble.

In addition to the book stores, the company also owns a distribution and wholesale book subsidiary, American Wholesale Book Company, as well as NetCentral, an internet service company. The company recently acquired Yogurt Mountain in 2010.

Founded in 1976, St. Nicks Christmas Store was the idea of Shawn Sealy, who loves Christmas and wanted a store that would bring the holiday to life every day of the year. The company is open all except for the first six weeks of the year. This gives employees time to overhaul the theme rooms, restock, and redecorate.

St. Nicks Christmas Store receives approximately 80 percent of its business between Halloween and New Years. Even in July and August, however, Sealy, who continues to be the sole owner of the company, receives about 80 visitors a day. Chris Davis is the visual designer for the more than 100 themed Christmas trees and 22 rooms.

The company has considered expansion plans, although no set date has been scheduled for this.

Halloween Mega Store Corporate Office

Founded in 2007, Halloween Mega Store is a chain of costume and Halloween decorations located in Florida. From one small location in Fort Myers, the company has since expanded to 13 stores, all located in Florida, as well as pop up stores during the typical Halloween Season, which runs from Mid September through Halloween day.

The company offers a wide range of costumes for everything from Halloween parties to School Spirit Days. Decorations and accessories for home and office are also big sellers, with customers spending an average of $77 per person. In addition to the usual costumes, the company carries costumes for pets, plus sizes, and couples costumes.

The Christmas Dove is a Christmas and holiday specialty store which offers a variety of items associated with the Christmas holidays including Christmas trees, ornaments, lights, candles, decorations, and collectible items. Founded in 1973 by Linda and Mike Svenson, the store and headquarters are located in Barrington, New Hampshire.

Linda Svesnson loved Christmas and wanted a different type of atmosphere for people to shop in rather than the usual department store. John thought that shopping should be more fun. The company has expanded over the years and now has a 16,000 square foot location dedicated exclusively to Christmas. The company states that they have the largest Christmas store in New England with more than 30 decorated theme rooms. The company specializes in gadgets and automated holiday items.

Halloween Town Store Corporate Office

Halloween Town was founded in 2000 by Wayne Toth and Jackie Ahumada in Burbank, California. The couple had experience working in other Hallowee and costume stores when they decided to try and open one of their own, The original store was a seasonal only operation, but with increased demand for costumes and props year round, the company now has several full time locations which are open all year.

The company offers the usual variety of costumes and make up, but it also offers a unique selection of props and decorative items, such as 8 foot tall, pose-able vampires to Styrofoam grave stones. Locations are known for having interiors that are decorated with graveyard or zombie themes, as well as employees in costumes.
