Chuy’s (pronounced Chewies) was founded in 1982 by John Zapp and Mike Young in Austin, Texas. Chuy’s is a Tex-Mex style restaurant chain which offers a casual dining experience. The original location was an abandoned barbeque shack that the pair remodeled. It had only one unisex bathroom and seated 60 persons.
Today, the company has 72 locations and continues to expand, with 6 more restaurants opening this year. Chuy’s went public on the NASDAQ in 2011 and can be found under the ticker symbol: CHUY.
Chuy’s is well known for hosting birthday parties for Elvis, including live music and an Elvis impersonator. All locations are decorated in an eclectic style which includes Mexican hats and blankets, hub caps, license plates, and brightly colored wooden fish “swimming” across the ceiling.

Current Chuys employee here, well about to be former Chuys employee. I’ve worked at chuys hamburg in lexington KY for only a year now and what i’ve seen in this year has been the most toxic environment i’ve ever worked in. they pick favorites, if you haven’t been there since they opened no matter how SHI**Y you are at your job they literally will praise your every move. while the ones that carry the weight and do the jobs of everyone don’t get recognized. our manager is an alcoholic, she goes behind the bar and take shots every morning and every chance that she gets throughout the day. I as well as many others have been harassed by a specific employee who has worked there since they open the store, she has quit and came back several times. Yesterday however was my final straw, she had pushed an employee so hard that he fell into the kitchen almost hitting his head on the dishwashing station. All management saw what it happened only acknowledge the woman, not the man that she had literally pushed it almost knocked out . Not to mention she has harassed more employees than I can count on one hand then I have ever heard in my life. She treats everyone there like a doormat when we all get paid 2.13 an hour. not anyone ever says a word about it and I’m sick of it. I loved my job, keyword loved. Now it’s just a place of managers that act like literal children, and previous workers that have been there for so long that they can get away with absolutely anything they want. I am seriously considering contacting law enforcement over the way this woman has acted towards me at work, since management seems to not want to do anything about it, but that’s what they always do.

I second, third, fourth & fifth this
The mistreatment and blatant disregard for disabled employees is mortifying.
The consistent RACISM that I witness everyday working there makes my throat close up and my blood pressure raise through the ROOF.
I will NOT LET SOME CORPORATE BUSINESS CONTINUE TO WALK AND ABUSE THE ENTIRE WORKFORCE OF THE SERVICE INDUSTRY.
This is store is the BIGGEST excuse of a joke I’ve ever seen.
Maybe the district manger should stop screwing the regional manager and letting her drown herself in alcohol behind the bar.
After multiple occasions of noticed neither manager has yet to put a single security camera up even though we hire drug addicts who live in their car and come into Chuy’s and rob us blind.
When this business, the management && the ENTIRE corporation is obviously CORRUPT.
TREAT YOUR WORKERS WITH MORE RESPECT
YOU WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT US.

Employee of Chuy’s I have never been or felt so disrespected in my life. Never finished with my training but got wrote up for it. Managers are very unprofessional and DO NOT communicate whatsoever. Things are very inconsistent never knew what to do or what not to do per shift depending on which manager was on. Being cussed and yelled out constantly for not knowing something or for messing something up that I was never trained on. Scared to ask how to put something in so it didn’t get messed up to get yelled at but get yelled at for asking. I have ran and managed business myself and have never dealt with anything like this. It is NOT ok to treat Employees this way. Or to discuss Employees with other employees at all.

Steve H. CEO Chuys.
Steve , be honest with customers. Stop having corporate send rubber stamp Covid excuse statements. I work in the restaurant industry. We only lost ONE item off menu. And that was mostly due to cost. Out source for new vendors assuming that’s the issue. Grocery stores have not been out of items in months. Restaurants are back full capacity. Stop hood winking loyal patrons. Get your menu back not in 2022 but asap. I lost count how many in my circle of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers who are done with Chuys shenanigans. Seriously. Been a customer since 80s. Never been so let down by a restaurant.

Chuys does not tell their staff when a member of the team has tested positive for covid-19. completely unprofessional and a health violation to both the servers and customers.

My family ate at the
chuy’s in Selma. There was 7 people. Our youngest grandchild has CFRD and requires Insulin enzemes and numerous meds. He carries it in a bag that has info on the MEDICAL BAG. We inadvertaly left it. My daughter in law called the store twice last night and again this morning. Also went to the store last night and this AM. No one took the time or energy to check to see if it had been left. Everyone said it was too busy to check. It was found this AM after the 3rd trip there. I do understand being busy with customers, but we where customers too.

I’m a chuys employee, I’ve never met the most disrespectful management team in my entire life until working here. The disrespect and unorganized and childish managers who are suppose to be in charge. Literally have no support from them at all. Treating everyone and anyone like garbage. The level of “professionalism” is 0. Certain managers either never to be found and others having total disregards for any help of the work place. Taking advantage of employees. If anything it would be a extremely helpful if they could retrain and/or get managers that actually want to run a restaurant as a family. This place has become a place where no one recommends to anymore, losing business inside and out. Major help is need and for those who continue to be overworked that to help them out.

We visited Colorado Springs Chuy’s last week twice. First visit the service was absolutely non existant. We were inside the room just right of coming in. Our food took over 45 minutes, it was not busy, we were there at 8 pm on Sunday eve, no one asked if we wanted refills the entire meal. We spent over $80 for 4 adults with drinks. We visited again on Friday and arrived at 1120 am. We requested to sit outside. There were three empty tables. The servers all said we could not sit outside because a large party reserved those tables. It was gorgeous out and we really wanted to sit outside, so we waited. I purchased my daughter and I margaritas at the bar, grampa sat outside in chairs along the wall with two grandkids. I paid with a mastercard for the two drinks, $24 with tip. It was not busy at all yet. We sat outside in chairs along the fence line watching the empty tables for 40 minutes. During that time I called the restaurant (proof attached) from right outside and asked if you take reservations. I was told no. I then went directly inside and said I had just called and was unclear on things, as we had arrived 30 minutes earlier and were told the three tables were reserved for a large party. The person (a young man) was very rude and basically said sorry but they are an exception, you can sit inside, wait, or leave, what would you like to do? Really? We continued to wait for a table outside and were seated when a party of 2 left. Then we sat for close to 15 minutes until I flagged down a server and asked if we might have a server. By this time we’d been there almost an hour. Oh and at 12:05-12:20 the “reserved party” straggled in and were IMMEDIATELY waited on. Our server finally took orders but we had to track her down for water and drink refills as well as our bill. Simikar to Sunday but worse because of our wait (since you don’t take reservations unless you are special apparently). Not good service, especially when not that busy.
I am attaching the only proof I have at present of us being there, which is a screenshot of my visa charge under TERRY VANOPDORP. My Mastercard charge for drinks I haven’t pulled up yet. The first visit Sunday was $80 cash including tip. In five days we spent approx $160 and came out disappointed especially in service and rude staff. We have been Chuy’s fans and come in TX when we visit. My daughter lives in CO so we were visiting and she suggested here as they had come once. We gave TWO chances and the whole reservation thing was ridiculous. We waited over 40 minutes for a table while you clearly reserved and held several tables. I’m sure you can verify all of this on cameras if need be. I am requesting that you refund us for the visit Friday in full as it was totally bogus. Also attached is a screenshot of my phone call I made while sitting outside, where I asked if you took reservations, was told no, and was looking at three empty tables for 40 minutes. Time is actually shown as center time, as we are from IL, but it was actually around 11:50. I don’t want a gift card. Please respond or let me know who to elevate to if you can’t resolve as requested. I will wait to go to social media and ask you directly to respond. The restaurant itself was dismissive and rude. I can send credit card numbers when I receive a response, as well as the mastercard charge screenshot. I would not spend time reaching out if not valid. That is alot if money to us.
Thank you,

Our family ate at the Chuy’s off of Park/75 in Dallas yesterday. It was quite sometime before somone approached our table. We asked for some tortillas and butter. The server, John brings them eventually and has one butter for three people! We had two margaritas and asked for waters w/lemons. He brought waters eventually w/no lemons. We asked for their jalapeño sauce and later he came back to say they were out and making some…we wait quite sometime for our food and the pancho nachos comes out with a long hair in it! I saw it as soon as she put the plate down and showed the girl that brought it out. At this time, everyone has their food except for me which is fine but we have no silverware. We wait a couple of minutes to see if John comes by or if we see him…didn’t happen so my son goes and finds someone to ask to get silverware. By this time, their food isn’t hot anymore. John eventually comes by and we told him this has gone fr bad service to worse! He said I’ll get my mgr. The manager comes over and ask what’s going on? I then inform him of our experiences including the hair in my food which I still don’t have my food. He said I can get you lemons and what else? Never ever apologized for the hair in my food, no silverware, etc. In the end, they did take off the pancho nachos on our bill which we didn’t care about. It was more of how the mgr handled the situation w/his smirk on his face when he approached our table and not apologizing and acting like he was being inconvenienced. We will not be returning to Chuy’s that we frequently visited often.

Hi Kathy,
I’m so sorry that we didn’t see your complaint. Unfortunately, this site is not affiliated with Chuy’s at all and any feedback here is not transfered to us at our Corporate Office.
I’m so sorry for the confusion and I have notified the store General Manager and Supervisor of your expereience and they will be contacting you shortly.
Again, I’m sorry that we didn’t get back to you sooner, we simply didn’t see the feedback. Thank you for understanding!

CHUYS IS THE WORSE PLACE ON EARTH. i HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THEM UNTIL THE ONE OPENED UP IN PASADENA, TEXAS AND WE TRIED TO GO IN THERE FOR A LADIES NIGHT OUT GIFT EXCHANGE AND THE 3 GIRLS UP FRONT AND THE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY WOULD GET SOME TABLES READY BUT I COULD NOT SIT DOWN AND PUT THE GIFTS ON THE TABLE UNTIL THE WHOLE PARTY GETS HERE AND HAD TO WAIT BY THE FRONT DOOR WHERE IT IS COLD WHEN IT KEEPS OPENING UP. I TOLD THEM THAT IS VERY RIDICULOUS AND NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. IF THE TABLES ARE READY WHY NOT LET US SIT DOWN. THAT’S JUST STUPID. I TOLD THE MANAGER THAT YOU RATHER LOOSE CUSTOMERS THAT PAY YOUR SALARY THEN TO SEAT PEOPLE EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE WAITING FOR MORE PEOPLE AND SHE SAID YES THAT IS CORRECT. I NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO EAT THERE FOOD BUT I WILL NEVER YOU THERE AGAIN. THERE FIRST IMPRESSION WAS AWFUL THERE ARE A LOT OF PLACES THAT WILL TAKE CUSTOMERS ANYTIME AND DON’T CARE HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU HAVE AS I CAN GO ANYWHERE AND I WILL HAVE 16 PEOPLE AND I WILL ONLY BE WAITING WHILE THEY ARE PUTTING THE TABLES TOGETHER AND THEN THEY WILL SEAT ME EVEN THOUGH THE WHOLE PARTY IS NOT THERE. I HAD A FRIEND TELL ME THAT CHUYS SERVICE IS AWFUL AND FOOD IS WORSE.

We, four of us and an infant ate at the Chuy’s in Rogers AR on Mother’s Day, my first visit to CHUY’S,. Upon receiving the receipt, I indicted tip 0 Total $47.24, paying with my debit card and leaving a cash tip! Upon checking my bank account on Tuesday, I saw they charged me $55.24, an addition of $8 to my actual amount. I returned to Chuy’s Tuesday evening and explained to the manager, he took the receipt and went and verified, came back and gave me $8 cash and said “so sorry ladies” waitress has two parties receipts and deducted wrong amount from my account! That does not make a lot of sense when the receipt had been run and I clearly wrote Tip 0 with total of 47.24. Not only, if that were the case how is he recouping the correct amount from the other party and isn’t it odd theirs was exactly $8 difference? Chris the manager did not appear to be surprised of the error and only commented “so sorry”. Needless to say I was not happy to take the time to return 12 mile to explain and get my $8 did not make me thrilled! I will not be returning to dine at Chuy’s in the near future!
